  1. So I have my 2nd visit with the surgeon next week. On that day I will also meet with the dietician and have my Psych eval. My insurance only requires 3 month visits so next month will be my last appointments. I’m extremely nervous about having my weight checked because I can’t gain any weight during this 3 months per insurance. Now I quit smoking 8 days ago and I just feel like I have gained weight due to snacking. I took Chantix for 2 days and didn’t like the side effects so I’m pretty much winging this cold turkey. Did anyone gain weight between the first and second dr. visit ?
  2. I’m super excited to start this journey. My insurance requires a 3 month program so I still have 2 months to go. I have watched many YouTube videos, researched websites, read books just so I will know what I’m getting myself into. I know everyone’s journey is different but many go through some of the same things. So my question is what advice would you give to someone who’s just getting started on this journey ? For example, I know hair loss seem to be common among Bariatric patients, would you suggest taking vitamins now ? Are there questions you would have asked your doctor but didn’t know to ask at the time ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated ?
  3. Does mild sleep apnea require you to have a CPAP machine? Do you think that helped with you approval process ?
  4. So today I received a call from the Dr. office stating that I need to have a sleep study. What is the purpose of the sleep study other than checking for sleep apnea ? I have had 2 other major surgeries where I had to be put to sleep, does the study help with that as well ? I was also told that it had to be for 3 nights and that I could have it home. I just need to pay $150 and pick up the machine. What was your experience like, if you had a at home sleep study ?
  5. So today I had my 1st dr visit with my surgeon. I attended the seminar on 01/22/19 so this actually my second visit. Today I weighed in @ 257lbs, 39.1 BMI and I’m 5’8. So my insurance requires a 3 month diet program which includes, 3 dr visits, 1 Psych eval and 1 dietician visit. I have already had my upper GI and labs are done. Today the dr. told me everything was fine with my labs. I do have low vitamin D and low B12 , which I was advice to start taking them. I’m also required to have a sleep study and urine test ( I’m a smoker) before surgery. Oh I forgot to mention that I selected to have VSG, which my dr. agrees it’s the best for me. I’m nervous and anxious not Scared, but my support team is small. My mom thinks I can do it without surgery, so that has stopped me from telling others like my father and my brother. My husband says he ❤️’s me the way I am but he supports me 100%. It’s his insurance that’s actually paying for everything. I just wanted to share my story as I began to change my life to get healthy ( High Blood Pressure , pre Diabetic). I’m 44 years with 4 kids and my goal is to live a long healthy life , and I think I’m making the best decision for me.
  6. I’m not really scared, I think I just need to do more research on it. Did you have the bypass ?
  7. GradyCat that’s good to know, how was the gas after surgery ?
  8. What is the difference in the heeling process? Why did y’all have different procedures?
  9. Hi everyone I have a question about GERD. If your upper GI test results show that you have acid reflux, do you have to have the RNY ? Tomorrow I will meet my surgeon about my test results and we talked about the sleeve before I had the test. I do suffer from acid reflux but it’s mostly when I eat certain foods. I really don’t want the bypass and I’m just wondering do you have to go route if the test is positive for GERD. Any advice on this topic would be helpful, thanks
  10. I have heard so many stories about 3 months to 6 months for approval. Some say you need 2 year records of being overweight. I’m just hoping that my insurance advocate has the right information so there’s surprises at the end of my 90days. Thanks for your feedback.
  11. Hello I’m a new to this site and have just a few questions about the process. I already had my seminar 01-22-19 and my 1st official weigh in appointment is 2-12-19. I’ve been told by my insurance advocate that will be time where I can’t gain weight. My insurance is Aetna and they require 3 month diet plan with psych evaluation and a dietician visit. So I guess my question is what has been your experience with Aetna ? What should I lookout for that my hold up my approval. Thanks
