Well say Hi to another, I had my RnY September 5th, 2 weeks in I started saying "Something is Wrong", they discounted me at first, I was impatient, I should know I was still swollen inside, my surgeon had said I could progress to Stage 3 foods, every time I tried. it came right back up, only could handle broths in and other fluids, even choked a few times on applesauce with my meds ground up. Finally, I suspect to shut me up, they scheduled an Endoscopy on October 12th, well Surprise Surprise I had a stoma stricture, that's why nothing was getting through, plus I had multiple ulcerations in my jejunem, and I grabbed a hold of that Tornado's Tail and I'm still riding it. Multiple endoscopies, still strictured, they have tried twice to dialate it but it kept tightening back up, end of November, November 28th in fact, I was not digesting my p.o. Protein, malnourished, dehydrated, and my happy hoo-hah and me got to be a return guest of the Bariatric and Gastrointestinal floor 10 Doan for 6 days, fed by IV the whole time, on November 28th a PICC line was installed, TPN was started and I am still on it 2+ months later, 12 hour feedings, 12 hours off every day. I have graduated to 1 token pureed meal a day, odd days a Protein Shake, even days homemade pureed Soup with extra protein added, this month instead of strainining out veggies I can pureed them into it, but bulk of nutrition is TPN stills Lost 3 pounds mid- December to mid- January, must have been close to a stall because if Doctors scales are correct I dropped 8,3 pounds January 16th to 25th, so although my weight is dropping a lot slower than the beginning, it still decreases, down over a 100 pounds from my life highest weight in October 2017, maybe 50+ s8nce surgery, so that's a lot better than I expected. Starting to resemble 2 of my dead relatives, don't recognize ME anymore but am going to keep hanging around and losing until I find out WHO I AM inside. Might take a year to 18 months to reach my goal, but now I know I will live long enough to do it! March 2020 I am going to be dy-no- mite, just wait and see!👙😛👚👖

You wouldn’t want any part of my path! It was a very unhappy time. I hear my situation was not the normal of most. During the sleeve surgery, it was discovered I had an extremely large hiatal hernia. ( now I knew I had one from during the tests prior) But I didn’t know how large it was. So surgery was done at that time.. I was told by hospital staff that it was the worst stomach surgery to have! Then, I went home as usual, until 2 days later I was hospitalized for dehydration and much to the hospitals surprise very low blood count.. Hospitalized again for both. Required several units of blood along with fluids. I spent a lot of November in the hospital. They told me, my particular case would be a review study. Lucky me!
Returned home , very weak, eating very little and November 30th wound up with Cellulitis in both legs. Another hospitalization.. insane ?you are right!Today, almost 3 months out, I still have eating issues. My doctor feels it could be my personal situation with my abdomen and healing. While I am thrilled that much is off my body, I remain weak, want to be stronger and pray I stay out of the hospital!

I just met with my nutritionist today and I talked about the same thing with her. The one thing she stressed is to NOT compare your rate of loss with someone else’s. So easy to say, quite another to do! But she said so many factors go into it including how much you weighed when you started, sex, age, etc. BUT regardless if you lose it fast or slow we WILL lose it. Hang in there, we can DO this

I hope both of you recover well from your gb surgeries! I had mine out years ago and the recoveries from both it and wls seemed very similar but I sure wouldn’t want to go through it back to back!!

I just had my 1 month post op visit with my surgeon and nut! I was dreading it because I thought I should’ve lost more but it was such a mood booster! My surgeon did a swallow test so that was awesome to see my new stomach! I was convinced he had left too big of a pouch because I don’t have the restrictions a lot of people complain about. But nope, little sliver of a banana! As I was walking out of the room he said I’m no longer in the morbidly obese range!!!! Woo hoo!!
Also had a nice long chat with my nutritionist. I told her I’ve been sticking to 500-700 calories. She felt my body may be in starvation mode at that level so to up it to 800-1000. I’m scared to do that but I’ll try it for a week and see what happens but will most likely keep it closer to 800. Or rotate higher calories some days and lower the next. Who knows, right? We all have to figure out what works best for us.

Hi and welcome. Please hang out with us. I wouldn't do IF until at least 6months post op and until I know I can get ALL of my daily Protein needs met with food. Plus being able to get lots of fluids in and all my vitamins/minerals in without chewables.

Anyone else’s gallbladder going to crap already? Sleeved 1/24/19. Surgeon inspected GB during surgery to make sure it looked fine and didn’t need to come out. No issues. Never had any problems related to my GB in the past. Fast forward 2 weeks and I woke up with super sharp pain in the middle of my abdomen and back, just under my ribs. Solid 10/10, panic inducing pain (and I have NEVER, ever rated my pain as a 10 before). Just as I decided to call someone to take me to the ER, the pain started to subside almost as quickly as it started. The attack lasted roughly 10 minutes. Last night, I had ANOTHER attack... exactly 2 weeks after the first. This time, it lasted much longer. Couldn’t talk, couldn’t sit still, couldn’t stand up straight. All I could do was writhe and moan. I sweated through my clothes, it was so dang intense. My husband was home this time, and able to take me to the ER. CT scan and labs were the picture of perfect health. They sent me home feeling like an over-dramatic idiot. I saw my PCP this morning and she sent me for a GB ultrasound. Sure enough, the dang thing is packed full of sludge already and I have to get with a surgeon to schedule its removal (good riddance). Anyone else experience anything similar? I knew bariatric surgery could cause gallbladder issues, but I definitely didn’t expect it to rear it’s ugly head within a month of surgery.

Sleeved on 1/15/19 and had my gallbladder removed 2/7/19 cuz I was throwing up for 2 weeks straight. I felt so much better once it was out and I’m currently recovering from it still.

Congratulations @FluffyChix! What an amazing achievement!
For the group: I’m just 1 month out but try to do at least a 12:12 IF. I just can’t seem to get all my Proteins in without that last snack of yogurt. I’m wondering if I worked in a snack or two during the day would be better and then nothing after dinner. I’ll mention it to my Dr today but thought I’d ask you pros as well.

Having a setback is temporary, giving up is permeant. You can turn this around.
I'm not giving medical advice. Understand many of us have eating disorders pre and post-surgery. You may want to talk with your therapist to see if this may apply to your situation. He/she will have better advice than I can give. Many people don’t seek help because they feel shame. You’re not alone. Asking for help (even from your bariatric team) is going to move you forward instead of being on a binge eating loop. Don’t let 40 turn in to 60, 80 or more.

So I am 6 months almost to the day. I went through a really bad depression episode. Mind you I have a truama therapist. A psychiatrist a super supportive family and a host of friends. The day of my suicide attempt I had a therapy appointment in the morning. Yet none of that was enough. I will say to anyone persuing this journey get your mental health in order. I had at the time 2.3 years of sobriety and a social worker.

I think you're doing great! Since my surgery, which was 3/20/18, I've lost 162 pounds. That's less than 15 pounds a month. Don't get discouraged. It all adds up!

Thank you so much. Yes this move was difficult in a variety of ways. The home I rented was a mess. My movers never delivered my belongings and the week after I moved to Houston, my Mom died. My boss and I don't get along. I am trying not to be so hard on myself.
I took the advice from Healthy_life2 and I got back on my Fitness Pal and also joined a challenge. Today has been good. Even when I want a bag of chips I tell myself no. I worked out this morning and have eaten well thus far. One day at a time. I appreciate the encouragement.

I am new to the forum. I recently moved from Wisconsin to Texas and I gained 20 pounds with that transition. I have it down to 15, but I am very upset with myself. I want to be back at my original weight loss weight. Does anyone have a similar story or how to triumph?? Thank you so much.

I was 383 before I started my program and had RnY on 8/26/18 I am 10 pounds away from my first 100 pounds down and it is so surreal. I have had to get different pieces of new clothing and take in some other pieces. Most of the people in my life have all been supportive of all of the changes. That has helped tremendously.

DanaC84 reacted to S@ssen@ch in How often to snack???
I've always planned for 1 or 2 Snacks during the day. For some reason, I've always gotten a little hungry in between Breakfast and lunch. It doesn't matter what I ate for breakfast. So, at the very least I plan for a healthy mid-morning snack.
You'll see a lot of variation in advice given by surgeons and nutritionists. I live very similar to looly above. If I don't find a happy medium of sustainable changes in my lifestyle, I will fail. I know this about myself as a result of battling this over a lifetime. So, for me, moderation is my motto. I allow myself occasional treats. If I find myself getting a little out of control with the treats, I go back to basics.
