Same. It’s two weeks; 1 meal a day, low cal/low fat /low sugar/carb with unlimited Protein Shakes. I’m just doing salads (chicken or salmon) with skinny girl or Walden farm dressing. I suggest knowing what Protein shakes you’re going to use prior bc some people are sensitive to certain ones. And heads up Costco’s premium protein shakes are on sale this month. 👍🏻

I will be flying to Australia six months after surgery (a 15-hour flight from the West Coast, not to mention six hours to get to LAX from the East Coast). I am wondering how people cope with particularly long plane flights post-surgery. I don't think I will want the airline meals, but I also don't think it will be possible to get Protein Shakes through security. Also, the air on planes is quite dry and it's easy to get dehydrated. I'd love to hear how others have handled long plane flights!

I think I saw somewhere on the forum that you can get Protein Shakes through security by claiming them as a medical necessity. I can't find the thread it was on, but on this is what it says on TSA's website:
TSA allows larger amounts of medically necessary liquids, gels, and aerosols in reasonable quantities for your trip, but you must declare them to TSA officers at the checkpoint for inspection.

I Celebrate my 1 year anniversary of my RNY today and the difference a year makes.
I'm healthier (losing over 100 pounds and lots of inches), I feel more confident, so much so that went to a fitness class yesterday and although I was still horribly uncoordinated (losing wight does not fix that!) I had fun.
I'm not saying the journey was all roses (I'll fight with anyone who thinks WLS is an 'easy way out') - I had nausea, pain, a stricture, endoscopic dilution, I felt alone. The amount of times I despaired that I'd made a very wrong, expensive and irreversible choice are too numerous to mention, But every month I started to feel progress and i held onto that was such tenacity, it really helped. This forum at times was a life saver and I want to thank all of members who took the time to answer my questions and be so completely honest. You have no idea how important it was to me.
To you all toying with the idea of WLS - I can't for one minute suggest it's the right thing for you, I can only advise that for me it's changed my life for the better, even with all the tough times
One year on, I feel like the me who I'm supposed to be (still got a bit to go, but I'm enjoying the challenge now - despite the small slice of lemon cake I've just enjoyed! No longer am I the person who was ashamed, embarrassed and scared of who I'd become and the terrifying future that it held.
Soon - I might even be brave enough to share some pics.

You know there is no logic in what you are saying. But I get it! I do. I can relate. Maybe on some level many (all) of us can? I think venting is a healthy thing. If you get it out of you, then it no longer can fester in shame and secrecy.
Part of what you are going through is pretty normal, you know. I know I went through it especially right out from surgery for a few months--just inescapable depression for no earthly reason! It came and went like a mood swing. So weird. I'm not depressed. Disappointment, irrational worrying about the future, etc. I think a lot of it comes from the aftermath of anesthesia, plus the gobbledygook baggage we carry.
    Drink lots of Water.
    Get out in the sun.
Move a LOT!!! WALK!!! When sad, get in the sun, deep breath and walk.
    Watch comedies.
    Watch uplifting shows.
Limit your exposure (if possible) to anything negative in your life.
    WALK some more.
    Drink MORE water.
Make concrete things to show your progress...pics, excel spread sheets, food logs charting your weight and measures...etc.
    It's hard.
If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.

You are more disciplined that I am by easing into the liquid diet. I'm currently in my "farewell to food" phase and am enjoying my favorite foods before I give them up for good (hello, ice cream). I'll go cold turkey when I start the liquid diet.

Glad to hear that she was pretty much just quizzing you as a way to find out how serious you are. Maybe it's just me, but people who aren't even motivated to do basic research are probably poor candidates.

Happened to me as well. It was pretty much why bypass over sleeve or vice versa. Wanted to know reasons and she agreed on all. She went over the risks again and then we scheduled

Thanks, Silly Kitty and everyone else. I guess my fear is that my relationship with food is like an alcoholic--one cupcake and I would end up losing control. Perhaps I should go into this with the mindset that I may very will slip up from time to time, and not beat myself up when I do. I can always get back on track by keeping the ultimate goal in mind. I really appreciate your reassurance!

Hi. I am four and half years post op. I stuck to my program religiously until I lost the majority of my weight. However maintenance has been a different story. I do “cheat” at times; as a matter of fact I just ate some pancakes with real Syrup for Breakfast. However, I usually weigh once a week and if the scale creeps up near the five pound gain I get back on my plan until it’s gone. When I am on vacations or during Christmas holidays I also give my self permission to eat what I want. This far out post op maintenance can be a challenge!! That said, I will got the gym hard today and cut way back tomorrow to make up for my pancakes today! LOL. I do admire the people who can stick to their plan perfectly especially the further out they get.

Your surgeon asked you to DEFEND your decision to get a bypass? The hell you say! How odd. I've heard all types of stories, but this one takes the cake. What would have happened if you hadn't satisfied her demand for a blow-by-blow explanation for why a bypass was your procedure of choice?
Was this your first meeting with this surgeon?

Oh, dear--I'm a big water chugger, and I hadn't thought of practicing small sips pre-op. It makes sense, however. I haven't started the pre-op liquid diet yet, since the exact date of my surgery in February is not yet set. (I see the surgeon again this Wednesday and hope to get the date then!)

I totally understand what you meant, I splurge then go back to business. I build these Into my lifestyle. Not for everyone. You have to be honest with yourself about eating issues. There's a whole dedicated thread to "cheating" not certain if you are ready for that...

    Hey!
So my surgeon is calling me in a weeks time to book my surgery for Feb. I am so ready for this new way of life. Im ready to be a better Mom and wife. Im ready to be HEALTHY.

However, I am also terrified of not waking up, of something going wrong during surgery and of just major complications (leak is my biggest fear). I know it may seem silly, but if there's anyone out there that was in the same situation and offer some words of encouragement, I would be very appreciative. I totally understand that the risks of obesity FAR outweigh the risks associated with surgery, I just have an irrational fear I suppose.

    Thanks again!

I’m waiting on an email from my program director with all the dates for labs, primary care clear visit, preop and start dates for my 2 week liquid diet. I’m going to go ahead and go full on Atkins style low carb Monday though until my liquid diet because I think it’ll make the transition easier. I think I’d starve going from a regular diet to all liquids overnight, lol. They require 2 weeks of only liquids....brutal, lol. Surgery is Feb 12😁
