LBwPCOS got a reaction from susieshouse in LapBand newbie
That was me! i felt like it was not worth it when i was in hospital i was there for 5 nights as my breathing with the band was not normal for me! (someone who takes full deep breaths was struggling to take more than a short one) but it got better over the weeks!!

The stomach will have so much swelling but making sure you move (like with the walking, breathing, talking) will help quicker with recovery! and every day will get so much better!!

Hey Kat welcome to the losers bench!!! I am at 6 weeks now from my LapBand so i am only a few steps in front of you!

I am based in Australia (if that helps) and I am more than happy for you to reach out if you have any questions concerns or just want to vent as this is all a fresh learning experience for me! it took me 2 weeks to be able to lie on my left side (side of port) and maybe another week after that to lie on the front. It sort of just happened where i woke up and it wasn't causing any discomfort or pain!

What i can advise being so early on is
walk walk walk keep moving if you can drink little and often, i promise you it gets better BUT it is a shock to the body from having had unrestricted drinks to then the shakes still unrestricted to now feeling like a shot worth is too much! so have chocolate milk, juices, flavoured waters etc anything to keep hydrated! it is normal to have gas pains if you are one who feels it!! heat / massaging the area helped me I promise you it all gets better!! TAKE A LAXATIVE AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!! the quicker you get something out the better you will feel stomach wise! and once it starts regulating it will be smooth sailing from there Things that i found that were great for liquids was getting take away from vietnamese / chinese restaurants and keeping their stock for a few days! full of flavour and nutrients as always used with veg / meat broths!
don't get too caught up with the calories that you are having for the first few weeks with the liquids and puree stage as mentally you do need to have selection of things you can eat! but Portion Control will be the underlining issue for the life style change

Please don't hesitate to ask for anything else!!!

I never thought of it as a cheat myself (or short cut) but when it was due to my hormones being out of control and PCOS just not helping me out this is what was needing to get myself regulated till i am having to have everything removed.

I don't think she will come to that realisation but you are so right it was for me and i have to embrace it!

BAHAH YAS BYE FELICIA!! and good on you don't you ever think you took it from someone younger there are many more days in a year they can book themselves in! I am at the stage where she is telling me that i am looking great now and don't need to lose any more (when i still cannot fit into clothes / boots yet which i want to be) so will still be working on myself for myself
it is slowly getting like that with the distance and digs hurting me so just trying to keep everything non food related (even tho she is telling me all about her natural diet she is doing on her own and working wonders) to which i am always giving support and motivation (and maybe reminding her when she's eating pizza about her amazing diet)

    Hi everyone,
My name is Kat and I just had my LapBand fitted yesterday and I am pretty miserable right now. I can't lie flat on my back cause I feel a tight pain in my stomach. Nurses say it's normal and that I'll get better soon. Anyways I'm excited to start this journey! Any LapBand buddies? I'm sure I'll have a million questions in the next few days - tips are welcome

All excellent advice, although This was something I should have kept from a few people, most have treated me pretty well. The person that told me " you should be ashamed you took the place of some younger and more deserving person on the surgery schedule" I only mention because that wounded me deeply, but hocus poacus ,the b**** is gone from my life forever, I worked darn hard at 72 to get surgery, so Bye Bye Felicia to YOU!

"She has mentioned before about how this is a short cut or that i have an advantage to being able to lose weight etc"

This is exactly how I looked at WLS before I considered it. Yah, I was dumb! It amazes me how often it's thought of as some sort of cheat! Haha like it's all one big competition. Well hopefully she will come to the realization that this surgery is a good thing for you and is helping you change your life.

Always remember that this surgery was right for you, and don't let anyone EVER take your success away from you.

HMA.... my opinion.... there are many other options than the Band or the Sleeve.
In 2009 i chose the band. A 14cc band.... SW 232, LW 130, best weight 143 Current weight 155. I had my band till March 23, 2017. Till that day i didn't have any trouble. I got the flu and threw up very violently and slipped my band. This was not the bands fault or mine.... it's just something that happened. I LOVED LOVED LOVED my band and would do anything to have her back. In the almost 2 years with out her i put on 15 lbs. which i think is not bad. And the reason....because I followed all the rules and learned to eat not only for today .... but for the rest of my life. I still, eat pretty much the same portions, never drink with a meal or after..... I just joined Crossfit and i am loving it.
As far as people saying the band is not successful..... well they are misinformed. I AM A SUCCESS....!!!!
and as far as people saying the sleeve is the end all be all.... well again, they are misinformed. The sleeve has just as many problems as any other WLS. It just so happens that the Sleeve is what the doctors are pushing right now..... who knows what it will be in 10 years when they are saying..... the sleeve didn't work the way we wanted it too. I have a number of friends that had the sleeve and GB..... and in about 3-5 years they all are back to the weight they started. But the one thing they don't have ...... 3/4 of there stomach to do any other surgery. The only other WLS that has another option except the band is GB.... you can do Band over GB.
This is the thing.... if you don't learn what's causing you to over eat, how to eat, what to eat, NO WLS is going to work. I've had two very close friends that had the band and converted to the sleeve... didn't lose a lb.... why, because they didn't get to the root of their issues....
So i say..... do more research..... go to more phy evals..... go to some support groups and listen.... make sure you have a great support system.... Then make your choice.
Peach shirt was 2018 Christmas party at mine and my fiance's home (almost 2 years). Swim suit and peach dress, this summer (almost a year and a half). other two was 2018 New years eve, after a year with out the band.
I was a success with the band and still a success without the band.

I find putting in a lime helps me heaps, and also sugar free cordial if it is days that I'm really struggling to drink. I have had to change my drinking habits completely as i was one who would skull Water and drink at night heaps too. so my body is not interested drinking on 'my' terms at sipping so these things are helping me a bit

LBwPCOS got a reaction from Frustr8 in Had a fall at 5 weeks
    Hey everyone
*not complaining for once - everything feels so good with the band and just started my first stall but not the issue today*
I had a fall where I landed on my side and I am wanting to know if this would be of any risk to the band slipping / port flipping etc at 5 weeks or would it be sturdy in place? I feel fine (was hungry after recovering lol) but when I read where ports flip etc idk the cause. Office is closed and will be calling Monday but if anyone has any advice greatly appreciated

Are you sure they are hunger pains or pains from not eating when you used to eat? I know there are times after I’ve eaten where my Tum says I’m hungry but my brain says these pains are not hunger related - try drinking Water and keeping up more fluids - if not working talk to your doctor / call the office and discuss your concerns

Agree, way too early out for bread, but once all healed, I tolerate bread just fine.
I also do sushi just fine. Raw tuna was one of my first soft Proteins. Why is it never again for you?

Carb Balance (Mission Low Carb) Small Tortillas, cut into wedges and nuked until crisp on a paper towel
Several low carb breads such as Revolution Rolls (made small to new portion sizes) Here's my recipe version of it. I am biased and think it's the most bread-like: http://fluffychixcook.com/basic-revolution-ary-rolls-low-carb-and-gluten-free/
There are other low carb breads you can buy. Even Sarah Lee has a pretty lower carb.
It's def a YMMV thing. It's way too early to combine bread with Protein. My doc said it's the kiss of death and causes lots of Constipation and concrete in her patients.

Based on my own personal experience and reading others comments on this forum, your ability to tolerate breads is entirely individual.
Having been banded in the past and now sleeved, my experiences are different with both procedures. With the band, I could tolerate everything. I had no issues with breads, sandwiches, tortillas, cake....you get the picture. With the sleeve, I wouldn't say I don't tolerate bread, BUT if I eat bread I have to be prepared to not be able to eat very much of anything else. I eat half of a sandwich with regular sliced bread (that's the equivalent of 1 slice of bread), but depending upon the items inside the sandwich I still might not be able to eat the entire 1/2 sandwich. I have eaten Buns (think hamburgers), but I do better if I take half the bun off and eat it open-faced. I have not tried thicker/heavier breads like a sub sandwich. Based upon the issue with regular sliced breads and buns, I doubt I'd get more than 2 or 3 bites in. I eat tortillas pretty regularly and I love a good wrap. Most of the time, they're too big to eat in one sitting. Thank goodness they make good left-overs.
My advice: it doesn't hurt to try, but if you do, take it slow. Also, breads tend to be a "gateway" food that leads you down a path to heavy carb eating. I know. I've been there.

I'm interested in know as well. I'm in ths states. I miss carbs and as good as it is, a Dragon [emoji244] just can't live on cauliflower rice.

Oh how I miss sandwiches. Every since I was a very young Sin I loved even thought of two soft folds of goodness, wrapped around an even tastier middle I can nibble on...

OK I either need a sandwich or my wife right now. Not sure.

I had mine done on the 14th of Dec and So far really appreciating this tool (I know it is like coming into week 4)
For me i didn't have (or need) the other options and given a few other medical issues / history this was the best option for me. I have family friends who have had this and they stressed the importance to keep maintaining and listening to your body to not cheat the system!!

I have had a few things where it has been a learning curve (like i drink way too fast and need to slow that down) and eating too fast too - i use my phone to time and i talk more when out between and listen - you learn so many tricks to make it seem more 'normal' because it is like teaching yourself again how to eat and drink

If you have any questions feel free to reach out and best of luck for the op!
