Kathy p got a reaction from rs in Any August Sleevers out there?
I had my gastric sleeve in August! I had a week on the liquid diet before surgery. Total I have lost 54 lbs. I get so discourage when I stall but I keep pushing. I am able to ride my horse and get down on the floor with my 2 under 2 grandsons ( different families). My biggest issue is diet Dr Pepper. My dr told me in the rules class that if it was iced or had a bit of Water in it then it would be okay. Not only am I retaining water but my fibromyalgia seems worse. Thinking I need to stick to water. On a good note, my clothes are hanging off of me and I’m down from size 22 pants to a 16/18. I never dreamt I could get out of size olus clothes !!! Hurray for August Sleevers!

You guys, thank you SO much! All these comments have helped put my mind to ease and I’m gonna shift my mind change to positivity and be grateful for the surgery 😊

Just wait until you start eating Protein all the time. Only then will you find the true meaning of smelly from gas filled rooms. Lol! Hope you have a of to blame it on.

Not that urine ever smelled great before surgery, but since my surgery on Tuesday my urine smells disgusting!!! Is this because I am not getting enough liquid? I am terrified of being dehydrated. Any insight would be appreciated!!
in other good news I have lost 10 pounds!!!

Surgery date 8/22/18. Down almost 60 lbs. Exercise is an issue because of my ongoing sciatica issue but trying to get in as many steps as possible,
Can pretty much eat what I want. Just gotta make right decisions:)

Where does the Fluid go? Pretty much straight through, be you sleeve or Bypass, except for me with Precious Pouch and her pinhole drain out. And if you are up for 8 hours, drinking a 8 oz☕ glass. per hour or 2 oz every 15 minutes, by the time you get completed--' you will have been putting out pale lemonade colored urine. And woe be you if you finish up late in the evening, because you will be up all night, running back and forth. And that is just how,it happens!💦🚽

I have this problem, too. I eat 3 or 4 bites really quickly, I immediately feel overfull (because I'm probably not chewing enough either!), and leave the table. Then within an hour or so my stomach is empty and growling again, so I find a probably less-than-optimal snack (light swiss Laughing Cow cheese and Wheat Thins was last night). I'm continuing to lose despite this, which worries me, because developing poor habits right now will set me up for failure when I'm out of the honeymoon period. My support group is having a speaker come talk about mindful eating in January, so I'm looking forward to that!

I have the same problem, only i haven’t had the surgery yet. I found a pretty good app that has a timer for chewing each bite, its helped me so far. The app is called Baritastic. It’s pretty cool!

I eat with a tiny fork and cut things into small bites. I also put my fork down between bites. I'm able to chew a lot without thinking because if I don't, I get a stomach ache. I also find that having fewer distractions helps me enjoy my food and feel the fullness sooner. But that's me. May or may not work for you.

    ^^^This.
Also, cutting your stuff up into super small bites and putting the fork down after each bite. I didn't count, just chewed until it was puree consistency.
Early days, don't try to get veggies in until you are routinely getting your Protein in. If you can only do 1oz of food, then it has to be only protein. When you mature to 2oz you can choose if you want to do 1 1/2oz of protein + 1/2oz of well cooked veg. It's very simple. Also in the early days, I would use meat lube: pre-made gravies and sauces that were super low cal/low carb/low sugar. It made getting the protein in much easier.

Hi there! So I struggled with this too. My family is kind of a jump in before it's gone type of family, and I kid you not everyone is usually done eating less than 10 minutes at the table. Crazy. I could never do the whole timer thing. I felt like it forced 30 minutes of my life to be dedicated solely and completely to food. So instead of practice mindful tactics. In between each bite, I PUT DOWN my utensil. That simple thing slowed my consumption down significantly. It also gave me time to chat and talk with the people at my table. When I'm alone, it gives me a moment to think about something else. It becomes a relaxing time instead of "Did I chew 32 times for optimal time allotment?" or "Is my pouch too full, what serving size will fill the space?"
I guess it seems kind of simple, but it really worked for me.

Uh oh. We never explored going off of anti-depressants. Im on 120 grams of Cymbalta, for Fibro, and my pain level from co-current arthritis is unbearable. But, this may be my problem. I've lost 40 lbs. but I need to lose 90 more lbs. and I'm stuck at the 2+ year mark. Not much exercise is going on, due to pain. I'm STUCK

I have the same fear. I fear that I'll stretch my pouch out and end up back where I started.
I had mine in July. I try to just listen to my body....I try and eat slow and don't drink a bunch while eating.
Hard to do I know. Everyday is a work in progress for me. Just keep staying positive.

Hello all! This is my first time posting in this forum.
I'm 10 days post op for VSG and everything seems to be going well. But, I'm scared to death that I'm messing up somehow. I'm getting my fluids in and taking about 3 ounces of broth/soup/blended Soup or Protein Shake every few hours (on full liquids at this point). I'm taking in about 12 ounces total of non-water/full liquids. I'm not really feeling hungry or anything. My fear has to do with feeling full. At first, I was feeling pain in my stomach when getting "full" but that sensation has pretty much gone away. I still feel a twinge when I've had enough soup or whatever, but I'm just wondering if this is "normal." (That I've stopped having the pain)
What do you think? Am I overthinking things? Should I just be thankful I'm not feeling the pain anymore?
    TIA!

Down 32 lb since surgery on 8/21, 45 since pre-op diet began.
Looked online today to get some perspective. I just came out of a FOUR WEEK stall. Thought I'd lose my mind and also thought the weight loss might be done and that surgery failed? The last couple of days it is literally dropping off again. I've been good with my diet and really good with exercise (5x per week - spinning classes and running and noticeably stronger after 11 solid weeks of exercise). I hope things keep moving as it is hard to stay motivated when the scale does not move.
I had hoped that by Christmas I'd be about 15 pounds lower than I am now.....probably won't occur. However, I do feel amazing and have so much more energy these days.

Just checking in to see how all the August sleevers are doing and share mines with you guys as well. As for me my vertigo (BPPV) has reduced significantly. I think it has something to do with calorie intake because I was able to eat more solid foods and more salt intake it leveled out. The fatigue during my 1st month has also gone away. The Thanksgiving experience was interesting as well, I ate more from the wing since the meat is softer and stuck more to the soft foods like stuffing and potato salad. My weight loss is still ongoing thankfully but at a slow steady pace. Tomorrow is my 3 month anniversary and I am at 51lbs lost. So far everything feels like it is leveling out and my body is finally adjusting.

I was sleeved 8/16 and I've lost 37.1 since surgery and 55.8 including preop. I'm happy with my rate of loss. I'm 46, 5'4" and in perimenopause. It would take me months to lose a few pounds before surgery and I was always up and down the same 5-10 pounds.

Seems like us Aug sleevers are pretty much for the most part with a similar journey. There are 2 issues I am dealing with as of now being 2 months post op. One is coffee, for some reason coffee is giving me headaches, not throbbing headaches but mild head pains that come and go. I was headache free until recently bringing it back into my diet. Wondering if its dehydration since we are able to drink very little Water. The second is vertigo mainly when I lay down in my bed to fast, seems like when I move my head up or too fast in kicks in. Any you guys experiencing any of this.

Hi! I had my surgery August 17th. I lost 45lb since surgery. I am 25 years old. Just know that my numbers might look good, but I am mentally unhappy. I miss food. We all have our struggles. Perhaps I am depriving myself too much. Take it slow. You’ll be fine. Just listen to the sleeve

I was sleeved Aug 29 at 275 lbs. As of today I have lost 42 lbs and lost 10 lbs pre-surgery. For the last 3 weeks been pretty steady though and weight-loss has stopped, however I notice my clothes keeps getting bigger and my belt sizes have become smaller. I think during these stalls your body redistributes adipose fat and Water and you continue to lose inflammation without losing lbs. I believe the 1st 3 months you are supposed to lose 33% of your excess weight. I have not started to work out rigorously besides getting my steps in at the gym at a normal pace. While my numbers are not bad I do sometimes get ahead of myself with the weight on my scale then I have to remind myself its a process so hang in there all you August sleevers!
