  1. From what I've read it can happen with whatever mask you use. I use a half face mask, it goes over my mouth and under my nose. I tried the full face masks in my sleep study and kept waking up panicking and trying to rip it off. And I have a somewhat deviated septum and always been a heavy mouth breather, so the nose only masks would be too hard for me to breath through. My CPAP girl at Mercy medical supply tracked down a mouth only mask that I wanted to try and it's covered by my insurance, I just need to wait til March when I can get a new mask setup. This is what I use: https://www.easybreathe.com/Amara-View-Mask-p4423.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9ImKzLOP4AIVhbxkCh0cvQ_3EAkYCyABEgKTUvD_BwE This is what I'm going to try: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/fisherandpaykel-fisher-paykel-oracle-452-nasal-cpap-mask?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9ImKzLOP4AIVhbxkCh0cvQ_3EAkYBiABEgJIK_D_BwE
  2. Needless to say, I was shocked when it happened to me, so I'm glad to get the word out and warn others. As far as my stomach stretching. I am working on keeping my portions down, unfortunately when you don't feel anything after eating soft food it's hard to not want more. I have noticed though that since I'm advancing to more solid food, I can actually feel it in my stomach, and have needed less to feel full. Maybe my stomach is shrinking back to where it's suppose to be. Hard to say yet. Thank You for all your support.

    What's for dinner?

I'm still not able to have any meat yet, I think it starts in the next stage for me, things like tuna. But the other day I made the best veggie dish. Maybe I was so deprived of home cooking that it felt like the best veggie dish I ever tasted, but it was good 3 med zucchini's - sliced med thin 2 med tomatoes - wedges about 8-12 per tomato olive oil cooking spray Place zucchini in pan and lightly spray with olive oil. Then add tomato wedges, add salt and pepper to taste (I like it heavy on the pepper). Cover and simmer until desired tenderness.

    No fresh fruits/veggies, but.....

Wow, I was never warned about pickles from my team. Hmmm.. I have been drinking pickle pops since I got home. It's suppose to be a popsicle, but I like to just fridge them and pour into a cup for sipping. I get so tired of sweet and this has been great for satisfying my sour impulses. Also in week 3 I have blended up sour kraut to the consistency of applesauce and warmed that up. It's great. I've had no bad reaction to this so far.

Seems I always push the envelope, but......

This sounds so good, my mom made this when I was a kid. Seeing is how I can already eat apple chewed up real good (no peel of coarse) and tomatoes, I bet I could handle this. I think I'll add it to my next shopping list for my next stage of food that starts soon (I'm on stage 3 right now). The other day I tried a scrambled egg, and it didn't sit well at all, it's the only time since surgery that I vomited, yuck. I wont be trying eggs again for a while... lol
  6. You are so strong to have made it through that like you did. It will all be worth it in the end. Have a speedy recovery.

    Trust (potentially) Broken

"She has mentioned before about how this is a short cut or that i have an advantage to being able to lose weight etc" This is exactly how I looked at WLS before I considered it. Yah, I was dumb! It amazes me how often it's thought of as some sort of cheat! Haha like it's all one big competition. Well hopefully she will come to the realization that this surgery is a good thing for you and is helping you change your life. Always remember that this surgery was right for you, and don't let anyone EVER take your success away from you.
  8. I struggle with this often. I have to prepare my son food and sometimes it gets to me. Tonight it was frozen pepperoni bread sticks hot out of the oven. yikes. I grazed on a couple cherry tomatoes and it curbed the beast. Truth is were always gonna have to deal with triggers. Just take it day by day and once you are able to eat some sort of real food, have something handy that you can pop in your mouth when it hits, this really helps me.

    Straw

It's discouraged by my Dr's team too. For the fact that you can swallow air. But this last meeting the nutritionist said that if you're good at drinking from one without swallowing air that it's ok. She said that generally those who usually drink from straws pre surgery are those who do the best post surgery with them. IDK, I'm just staying away from them, tummys still healing.
  10. I'm 16 days post op and I tell ya, that one week point hit me hard too. It's like my stomach was feeling better and the real hunger kicked in. The puree food helps in week 2, but week 3 soft food(I'm 16 days out now) has me more satisfied and I'm not obsessing about food so much. What I'm trying to say is it gets better, just hang in there a little longer. Oh and I too can eat the recommended 2oz serving for this stage and still be really hungry, so I was wondering the same thing. lol Today I finally started my food journal, I'm going to keep track of what I eat to help me stay accountable. This is what I ate today, It's whats working for me and I was satisfied. Day 16 8am 8oz Unjury choc protien shake 11am 1tbsp lowfat cottage cheese whole banana 3pm light string cheese 4oz protien sf jello 9pm 4oz ground sour kraut 6oz Campbell's tomato soup (sipped over time)
  11. Congrats to all of your success. 👍

    Back to work

Yah I stopped taking the meds at about day 5 and was fine with Tylenol. I'm currently day 12 and don't need anything for pain anymore.

    Back to work

I go to school and drive an hour each way. I went back Monday, which is 1 week post op for me. I'm doing fine, I just take it slow.

    Jan 2019 bypass buddies

Surgery Date 01/07/2019 My surgery went well, I was up and walking the next day, drinking my protein, and wasn't nauseous not even once. So I got to go home the next day This is day 3 post-op. I am doing well, although I slept most of yesterday away, I believe I needed to catch up on sleep, since sleep in the hospital is in 2 hour intervals, someones always waking you up for something lol Today I've been up all day, walking around, playing on the computer. I've had some pain but not anything that cant be controlled. The drinking thing has been hard. Making sure i get my protein in. So mainly right now I'm on 2x protein shakes a day, i split them up so that I'm only handling 4oz at a time. Drinking water and power-aid zero all day. And today I measured out 2oz sf jello and 2oz beef broth for lunch. I think i'm going to do ok with my new stomach. I worry about stretching it, but from what I've read 4 oz. on the liquid diet is not the same as solid food. I usually take my time and get full from 4oz of liquid. So far so good, I am so happy with my decision to do this.

  16. Ok so I'm on my third day of a Dr ordered 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I WILL NOT cave in - I don't want to do anything to screw up my chances of having surgery! This is carved in stone for me. I am so nauseous and tired today, and what I feel like doing is curling up in the fetal position laying in bed and hibernating until surgery date. Does it get easier? Any tips on making this a less torturous experience? 😧
  17. For the past month leading up to my pre op liquid diet (which I'm currently on day 3/14, ya i had to start Dec. 24th), I ate Everything! that I wanted calling it my bucket list... this included but was not limited to fast food, buffets, ice creams, cakes/pies, chips, candy, etc... I indulged like I was living my last day. I know that I was suppose to be "trying to lose weight" per my Dr's request. But I wanted to taste/eat everything that I could before things got real. No regrets
  18. Thank you. I blended my shake this afternoon with ice and added some extract flavorings that I had purchased when I last shopped. I grabbed like 5 different flavors and just a generic vanilla high protein/low carb powder for blending. I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible. I bought some sf jello and I'm waiting for that to be ready. I'm thinking of getting some sf Popsicle's (clear ones) next time I shop, for that urge to chew. I don't know yet how much these things will help, but the shake was nice today. I feel less nauseous this afternoon. I appreciate the help and encouragement.
