Great advice. Sometimes we want all the weight off so bad, that we don't acknowledge and appreciate the weight that has come off.
I am thankful to be down 74 pounds. And I am earning to change how I communicate that. Over the weekend my cousin asked how much I had lost? My response was I have lost about 70 pounds but I still have 100 more to lose!
I will stop discounting my sucess today. The next time someone asks my answer will be "I have lost over 70 pounds and I look and feel great!" Period. Because that is the truth.

WINNER!!! Best answer yet! I was super curious if peristalsis kept working in the bypassed bits so that’s interesting to hear. Thanks so much!

Sorry for the nOOb questions I know is probably explained well somewhere on here, but I want up to date feedback...
#1 Why exactly can't you drink while eating? Not even a sip to wash something down? What if something gets stuck in your throat and you need to drink? What's the thing with straws?
#2 If you no longer have your pyloric sphincter in place to keep food in your stomach/pouch, how in the world do you ever feel full? How does everything not just immediately go from esophagus to pouch to small intestine? How long does solid food stay in the pouch? Same with liquids?
EDIT: #3 How is food kept from backing up into the part of the intestine marked by #3 in this picture and moving back towards the old stomach?

I don’t think I could tolerate it that soon, but steak is not an unhealthy food, it has tons of Protein and if he is getting a doggie bag, he seems to be following the plan, no? He’s not taking down a buffet or eating even eating a piece of cake, just a piece of protein in a small portion. I think the “how” is a reasonable question, but not the “why”.

I kind of agree with the gentleman at your meeting. Now, I will say, I don't know how he's able to tolerate all that meat so early, but I agree with him about depriving himself. I also allow myself to have certain things that other people who have had this surgery wouldn't dare have. I eat chocolate daily. It's something that I really enjoy. Now, I don't overindulge in it, but I do have a bit every day, and I make sure to track it.
I've dieted for a large portion of my life, and what's always happened before is that I'm really strict, then I'll allow myself to have a little something on special occasions, then I get completely derailed and can't get back on track. Well, this time is different. I don't count anything as getting off track really. This is a lifestyle change; it's not a diet. I choose to primarily eat healthy, but every now and then, I eat things that aren't necessarily good for me. This is how I plan to keep this going for the long term.

I ate a bite of very rare, very lean steak at around 4-5 weeks? *blush* Sue me...
And by about 8 weeks out I was eating anything and everything. But it was only small amounts and very rare, tender and chewed to kingdom come.
This is where you simply can't compare cuz we're all different. My doc had released me to eat anything, btw.

I'm hoping that losing slowly means my skin will have more chance to adjust. I'd also love to know if slow losers get to goal too.

I really needed to see this. I'm 6 weeks out tomorrow and have only lost 24 pounds since surgery. The first 17 was in the first 2 weeks! I'm currently on my 2nd stall and barely averaging 2 pounds per week. I'm scared of what will happen after the honeymoon period when it gets harder to lose- it's already plenty hard to lose as it stands!!
  10. Congrats!

That 1st lump of weight is Water weight from surgery. IV and such so don't expect to loose so much every week. The first few weeks will not be consistent, as your body is healing you will drop more weight on some days/weeks than others. Don't pay that much attention to the numbers straight off, you have to let your body adjust. Congrats BTW and Best to you on your recovery/journey!!!!
