  1. I couldn't bend over for at least a week, if not more. I thought that I would go stir crazy but the surgery really did take a lot out of me.

    Leave Recovery Time After Surgery

I took off about 2.5 weeks.
  3. I've always been large. You can see it in my class pictures starting around third grade probably. Even though I've always been large, I don't feel it. I'm still surprised when I look in the mirror even though this is the size I've always been! I'm very curious to see how my brain handles all of this long term.

    Swelling and bloating

I'm over 2 weeks post-op and sometimes still feel a little bloated but it's much better. It could also be that I haven't worn real clothes in over 2 weeks lol!

    Pantry

I did! It's easier for me because I live alone so I don't have to worry about what other people will eat or want to eat. I tried to load up on a lot of things that I knew I'd be able to eat, jello, etc and haven't eaten most of it. I would get a few of a lot of different things. It's true that your tastebuds will change after surgery.
  6. Of all the things I brought I used: toothbrush and toothpaste, hair brush, hair tie, chapstick and lotion. I wore the same thing home that I wore to the hospital, I walked around in the socks they gave me and the gown was large enough so I didn't feel like I needed a robe. I didn't even end up using my phone charger because I was sleeping most of the time and didn't feel like being on my phone!
  7. I didn't experience any nausea but the pain was pretty high for the first two days. It got a lot easier after that. I think I was off all pain medicine by 6-7 days post op. There are so many factors but I would be prepared for a lot of pain. That way you might be pleasantly surprised if it's not as bad as you expected!

    Sleep study question

I've had 5 sleep studies and have had sleep apnea for years but don't use a CPAP machine. I tried it for a while but it just doesn't work for me. So it's not a guarantee you'll get the machine.

    Phentermine

I took it off and on for a few years and successfully lost 60lbs but no matter what I couldn't get below that. I stopped and very slowly gained it back until I started on a new antidepressant and my weight ballooned. The worst side effect I had with it was some insomnia.
  10. I stopped all pain meds about 6-7 days post-op. I used my liquid hydrocodone until it ran out and then went to regular tylenol.
  11. The first few days my cravings were terrible!! Everything on tv looked delicious and bread was especially calling to me. It has gotten better and seeing the weight come off is further reinforcing everything. Don't do it!!
  12. My pre-op diet was just low carb/high protein. The only time I had to do only liquids was the day before surgery. The day after surgery my first meal was liquids and then I moved straight to purees. You'll still do great!

    January 2019

I've found that as my incision pain gets better, my stomach itself is a little crampier.
  14. Tomorrow makes one week from surgery and things have been pretty good. It's a challenge to get in my protein and water each day but I'm getting better. The pain is manageable and I've already lost a few pounds. What I've found the most difficult is the mental aspect! I see commercials for food and I think about how delicious a big mac would be right now. Really, any kind of bread has been what I'm craving the most. Tell me this will go away!

    One week post-op

I'm so glad that my stomach quickly reminds me that I do not actually want or need but the cravings and habits are very hard to break!

    Vitamins

Has anyone had difficulty with vitamins post-op that they didn't have pre-op?
  17. I am praying for relief of my PCOS and hirsutism! Other things on there would be great too!!
  18. Thankfully my hospital has all private rooms. No roommate and no vomit!

    OTC Pain medication

I've only taken tylenol pills and didn't have a problem with them.

    January surgeries?!

It will get so much better soon!
  21. My first appt was the beginning of November and my surgery is tomorrow. I have Cigna. It would have went faster but there was a solid 2-3 weeks of delays because Cigna kept "losing" paper work.
  22. I've been wondering about this too. My brother is getting married on the other side of the country two months after my surgery.

    I started my journey FINALLY!

Good luck! I'm sure it will fly back. I started my process the beginning of November and am having surgery on Thursday. Thankfully my insurance didn't require the 6 month wait! In the meantime, you'll find a lot of information and encouragement around here.
