10 weeks out from surgery- struggling to find what works
ms.sss replied to MelbaT's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
i had a serious (and extended) case of food aversion. still get it every once in a while now at 4.5+ years out. during those/these times i don't actually feel hungry though...its more like "i should probably eat something", but don't want to cuz i had/have the icks. so i don't. i'm of the (minority) mind that i won't force myself to eat if it will lead to an unpleasant experience. i just didn't/don't want to have that kind of relationship with food (or anything really) with that said there where periods where i ate very little..,but i would always get a window eventually when i did want to eat. and did. with so little calories i did feel very weak and tired, plus my blood pressure went way low, and would get woozy if i moved too fast. this happened regularly for about 3 months and by month 4-5 it was much better, probably because i was eating more and moving around much more. one thing my doc did suggest, which i think did help with the wooziness was increase my sodium intake. which was fine by me cuz i love salty things lol. as for throwing out shaker bottles and never having soup/broths again...never say never: things are always changing and will continue to change no matter what. if you can accept and make peace (sans angst!) with whatever comes and goes, as part and parcel of ur weight loss (of life, really), then the ride will be alot smoother. Good Luck! ❤️ -
yowza. $1125 USD to own a pair of these babies!

pineapple is a very divisive topping in many places lol. fun fact: "hawaiian" pizza (i.e., pineapple + ham) was actually invented in Canada! -

couldn't resist a deal. picked up these "sock stilettos" at the mall today for $30 CDN. i have absolutely no where to wear them, so i'm just playing dress up at home. paired them with a faux leather skirt which i also bought on a whim a couple years back which i have worn in public a total of ONE time, ha. if it wasn't for this OOTD thread, human eyes would not be laid on like 3/4 of my wardrobe 😂. i need to get out (and dress up!) more. p.s. pro tip: wear super high heels will make you look taller and skinner than you really are! p.p.s. oh, and cross one leg in front of the other one in pictures...makes your butt/hips look like they actually exist!!

congratulations on ur upcoming wedding! the back pain seems to be a pretty common occurrence soon after surgery/weight loss. i already had back and foot pain pre-surgery, but about 1-2 months post op a NEW back pain showed up. as well as NEW foot pain and hip pain (the hip pain actually was the most annoying). like your doctor, mine also said it was due to weight loss (i had lost about 50 lbs by month 2, including the 2wk pre-op diet), and that my musculature was built over years to support my weight so need to adjust to support my changing weight. if i remember correctly it all went away by month 3 or 4. i didn't take any pain medication (but i probably should have), but i did start doing yoga and core exercises in month 3, but im not sure if that contributed to the pain going away or it was just my body finally adjusted. in any case hope all your appts lined up get you up an at em by your big day!

...which leads me to: Lunch, take two. Updated the lasagna entry and added a slice of this hilarious pizza Mr. brought home. check out the size of this "slice" (see the fork for size comparison, lololzzz). so for the martini, the bite of the aforementioned lasagna, and the piece of pizza, total cals came up to 395 for my lunch. ate about 1/2 of my "slice of slice of pizza", will eat the rest later cuz that damn bite of lasagna is sitting in my stomach taking up valuable real estate. -

Lunch, take one: has an espresso martini beforehand (not shown), and served myself roughly half a cup of take-out lasagna. 279 cals for the drink and the lasagna . BUT..after one bite of the lasagna i handed it over to Mr. cuz i didn't like the ratio of noodles to sauce! Waaaay too much pasta compared to sauce...was like eating a stack of pasta sheets. -
Does Eating really get easier?

if there is one single piece of advice i could dile out to the newly wls-ed, it would be not to sweat what u can or can't do first couple weeks. you just had major surgery and recovering from it, try to to expect to go running straight out of the gate, it'll come eventually. i didn't meet my water goals for the first two weeks. i didn't make my protein goals until well after a month or two post op. in fact, i couldn't even reach my DAILY protein goal amount in an entire WEEK of eating the first 2-3 weeks. like u, i also had serious food aversion and just didn't want to eat anything. at all. it was really bad the first couple months but still persisted on and off throughout weight loss phase. even now, at over 4.5 years post op, i still turn up my nose to eating every now and then. not as often as before, but still. despite all that, all my labs came back just fine (and still do) and i lost all the weight i wanted, and did NOT end up underweight nor mal-nourished. as for when i started eating "normal" food, it was probably after maintenance...and not because i couldn't, it was a conscious choice cuz i was prioritizing weight loss. speaking of "normal"...others would probably see how i eat and think its NOT normal (volume and amount-wise), but its a (new) normal for me. so yeah, many of us went through what u are going through now and turned out just fine. hang in there and know this is not forever, and u'll be alright ❤️ -

1/3 a mcdonalds fillet-o-fish and some fries with ketchup. 183 calories. (seems like it should be way more calories , but i'll go with what MFP says 🤷🏻♀️ ) Ate it all, yummer. -
thats an odd question! it didn't occur to me thar hilarity and body size would be related. i think im hilarious gigantic and tiny, ha! 😂

the thing about gas station or grocery or wherever pre-made sushi that sits on the shelf for purchase, is the texture of the rice gets compromised. gets dried out and hard(er). as for maki/rolls on the shelf, the nori gets soggy.
-
i didn't have sushi until way into maintenance...probably like 2 years post op or so. however, i did have sashimi pretty regularly starting at around 4-5 months post op. i think the first time i only had 1 piece (barely), but i eventually graduated to like 2-3 peices by the 1-yr post op mark. Nowadays (at 4.5+ yrs post-op) i could have like 6-7 peices (of sashimi) in one sitting so long as i don't eat anything else. As for sushi or maki/rolls, I could probably have like 2-3 in one sitting....but i don't have it as often as sashimi, cuz i don't like to waste stomach space on rice, lol.

i didn't have a period for about 2 years before surgery. i assumed i was menopausal (turns out i was just fat). 2-3 weeks after surgery i got a period that lasted almost 2 weeks...which was weird...even more weird that my "normal" periods normally lasted 3-4 days. after that i got a "regular" period every month like clockwork. that went on for about 3 years until about a year ago when it went wonky again. i think i've had a period twice in the last 12 months. i'm assuming im actually menopausal now, ha (im 50 today , had my surgery in 2018)

lunchtime! about a cup of one of those pre-made Costco bagged salads, some cheese and about 1/2 cup of cut mango. 284 calories for the bowl. Ate all the mango and about 1/4 the salad (the dressing was little too sweet for me...this is why i prefer to make my own dessing/vinaigrette!!) and like one bite of cheese cube (tasted weird with the salad, so pushed it off to the side) ...the Kid ate my leftovers. -
i opted for sleeve cuz: (1) i wanted to continue taking a prescribed NSAIDs with no interruption (2) i was wary of dumping syndrome and (3) the thought of "re-routing my plumbing" gave me pause well. 1- Turns out i no longer needed my NDAIDs soon after surgery, so that was moot. 2 - I got dumping syndrome anyway, yay. 3 - the fear of re-routing my plumbing was probably just silly cuz i couldn't feel anything anyway. Further i developed an issue with reflux (nothing unmanageable, but still). But in the end, im still ridiculously pleased with my decision, and i lost 120 lbs in 7.5 months (i know/read lots of accounts with the same-ish loss numbers, and am actually surprised that a 30-40 lbs loss on sleeve is common!) would i make a different choice knowing what i know now? who knows. i have no idea what it would have been like if i had by-pass since i didn't do it. and the results of my sleeve went a-ok for me, so i figure i won't sweat it.

you mentioned that he said what he said after an argument. dunno what the argument was about, and it probably doesn't matter, but its pretty typical for one partner to say something hurtful to the other during an argument. not saying its okay by any means, but i would lean towards getting some marriage counselling stat, IF you want to make honest efforts to mend the relationship. if money is an issue, look into community offerings, maybe even a good book that you BOTH read and practice...the caveat being you BOTH have to go into it with mending in mind. Barring that, individual counselling just for you would probably be really helpful (kudos for already seeing a bariatic therapist!). Its hard to navigate life when validation of self is sought or dependent from/on others...one will never be satisfied. You and you alone is the only requirement to say you are excellent. Know and believe you are and u will be. Good Luck! ❤️

Prepped a batch of Bulgogi (korean marinated beef strips) and froze batches of it a month ago...finally got around to defrosting one of the ziplocks and cooking it. OMG so yum, if i say so myself! Portioned our about a cup of the cooked bulgogi and a 1/4 cup of cooked white rice (cuz u can't have bulgogi without rice!). 378 calories for the bowl, ate about 2/3 (maybe 3/4?) of it all. not sharing my leftovers with mr. as im keeping it for later cuz its so yum. p.s. the onions were not part of the frozen ziplock contents...i sliced and sautéed them separately 😉 -
one of the many, MANY pics i happily posed for on most recent vacay. i don't normally wear alot of bold colour, but this skirt was screaming at me to buy it from one of the centro shops. now need to find another reason to wear it again! 😂

Surgeon suggested bypass instead of sleeve.
ms.sss replied to areyoukiddingme's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
i'm a sleeve and i dump. but it's totally manageable: i just make sure i don't eat too much sugar or sugar on an empty stomach. cooking: i LOVE cooking (strangely enough this love of cooking/baking/grilling developed AFTER wls). i may not eat much (or any) of what i make, but i still really enjoy doing it. restaurants: i still go out to eat as much, if not MORE, than pre-wls (i love to get all dressed for a night out and sample different/new foods). i only eat a fraction of what i once did, but i i do like to try everything...like a bite or two of everything that gets to the table..which is why i like to go out in groups or go to tasting menus cuz of the variety. clothes: i too went through my entire stash of "skinny clothes" but now have all new stuff cuz i eventually sized out of said stash. shopping and buying new clothes is super fun, lol.
