Food Before and After Photos

So this gigantic salad is a whopping 52 calories for the entire thing, LOL. I ate it for both lunch and dinner. At lunch it was just salad, but for dinner I also had a few pieces of sashimi (+200 cals) and about 2 tbsp of crab fat (+155 cals) and a glass of red wine (+172 cals) -
I started 2 weeks before surgery. I was supposed to be on 3 protein shakes a day, which I did most of the time, but there were days (near the end of the two weeks especially) that I only managed to take in 2 shakes...which was weird. Other than water, didn't have anything else. Also, I didn't have any issues with low blood sugar...at least nothing noticeable.

Question about weight loss related to body shape
ms.sss replied to perfektlynrml's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think generally, the first place you put fat on is the last place it comes off. -
Did the patio thing last night and wore my newly guerilla-altered skirt. Its a stretchy-jersey material that I got in Size Large last year. It couldn’t even sit on my hips, so I added 4 sad looking darts at the waistband, but since the top folds over, they are nicely hidden. I failed to consider shortening the length so spent alot of time holding it up cuz i kept stepping on the hem! Had a fun time regardless. I heart summertime ❤️

Had Drumstick ice cream cones on the brain, but settled for strawberries and vanilla whipped cream instead: 304 calories Joke’s on me though, turns out the strawberries and cream were more calories than the Drumstick (which is 300 calories for a whole one). On the bright side for me, though, is that the strawberries were only 5g carbs vs. the 36g of the Drumstick) Whatever. It was delicious 😋 -

Heading out to go grocery shopping 🛒 -
Plus it’s muggy AND humid AND raining here today. Boo. Heading out to go grocery shopping though. The cargo pants belong to the the Kid. She’s been pinching clothes from my closet lately, so I’m returning the favour.

So I meant to post something like this at my 18 month surgiversary, but first I forgot, then I got lazy, lol. Finally finished putting this together tonight (about 2 weeks late, oopsies), and seeing it finished, I wish I was more consistent/regular with taking pictures of my progress during weight loss phase...but I think the end result collage is still pretty cool. ...another thing to consider: incorporate B12 into your vitamin regime... -
Actually, my spray of choice was AquaNet with helping of pomade at the roots 😂😂. Carried a can of it everywhere I went (and we are talking full-size, not travel size!) along with a ridiculous amount of makeup and a tease comb. How I miss those gaudy days. Sigh. ...and perms! P.S. Sorry, ozone layer!

I generally get lethargic (or worse, i.e., dumping) when I have processed carbs. Try taking note if what foods trigger it and stay away for a while. You can re-introduce at a later time. Rinse & repeat... -

Worrying that your DNA will work against you
ms.sss replied to MotoZen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being genetically pre-disposed to obesity will make it “harder” for one to lose the weight and eventually maintain, but it doesn’t mean it can’t be done. If you are fully committed to a lifestyle change, I believe it is achievable. You’ll just have to work harder and longer than the person who isn’t pre-disposed. My mother and sister are both obese today. My mom was just overweight when she was in her twenties, but my sister has been overweight to obese since puberty. My father was normal weight up until his 40’s, and then slowly entered into obese territory as well. I was normal weight up until my twenties, like my mom, and got MO by the time I was 40. I had dieted and lost weight a few times (50+ lbs each time), but always managed to gain it back plus a quite a few more within a year. I am now 1 yr, 2 mnths since reaching goal (1 yr, 9 mnths since actual surgery), and I am 17 lbs less than when I decided to stop losing weight. So I think (hope!) that I broke my own personal curse of the 1-year-weight-loss-weight-gain cycle. Based on what I’ve read, I was/am a normal to faster loser (but I lost at the same rate even before surgery). The main difference between now and then (besides my physically smaller stomach, of course) is my attitude. I have done a total 180 in regards to eating habits, exercise, and probably more importantly, in temperament. Could I have done this without the surgery? Maybe. All I know is that I have a ridiculous amount of confidence now that I didn’t before, and this self-belief thing started the day I decided to go through with WLS (I had changed my mind twice about going through with it over a 2-year period). And it only got stronger as time went on. So I get where @Arabesque is coming from about the therapy thing. The mind is a very powerful thing when used to your benefit. So, did I worry that biology would hinder me? No. I just figured I would do what I need to do to get what I want. P.S. I know I am not one of the wls lottery winners. I exercise a crap ton more than others on here who manage to maintain a weight similar to mine without a lick of exercise and who even eat pasta (the horror! Lol.). Luckily I like exercise now vs dreading it (well, except maybe for strengh training, which I still sorta hate, but it’s slowly growing on me...) P.P.S. Sorry this was sooooo long. -
Balancing calories with exercise
ms.sss replied to colormehappy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Agree w/ @JakeH, and that its different when you are in weight loss mode vs. Maintenance. I started exercising for reals at 3 months post op and kept my calories under 600 no matter if it was an exercise day or not (at 5-6 months post op I was staying under 800). Stayed ultra-low carbs (>25g NET carbs). Now, as I’m not actively trying to lose weight, I try to stay within 1800-2000 calories (but I also do some moderate to heavy exercise almost every day). My bad though, as I will admit the quality of these calories may not always be of the best kind (i.e., sugar). I try to stay under 100g NET carbs, but I don’t always succeed (i.e., sugar!) Further, I prefer to do my running/strength training in the morning, in a fasted state. It may just be me, but I feel more energetic and nimble when my stomach is empty. Food makes me feel lazy and sluggish for some reason. Also, like @ChubRub, I do not feel particularly hungry after exercising, but I will eventually in a couple hours or so, and I’ll eat if I’m hungry. Long story short, at 6 weeks out, maybe just eat if u are hungry, while sticking to your prescribed calorie range (and don’t forget to get your protein and water in!) Good Luck! P.S. I am NOT a medical professional and am providing anecdotal comments based on my own experiences. It’s advisable to check with your doc when starting a new workout and nutritional regimen ❤️ -
