I did not have this issue right after surgery, I don't know why. Mine happened about a year after surgery. However, I did know a lot of people who did go thru this issue at support groups. Most were missing food. Food is so wrapped up into everything we do. It becomes our emotional support, best friend and all round go to for anything happening in our lives. Sad-cry with a bowl of ice cream, happy-celebrate with ice cream! Missing food is normal. I have heard it referred to as 'mourning' many times. The trick is learning to deal with your emotions with food. Surgery fixes our body but not our minds concerning food.
You need to talk with someone. Most surgery hoops require seeing a therapist before surgery but it is not required after. I was very lucky that a person in my support group was a therapist and suggested a great person for me to see. My suggestion would find a therapist who specializes in food addiction or any addiction if you can't find one specializing in food. If a therapist is out of the question for you, I would suggest attending as many support groups as you can.
I am 15 years out last Sept. 4 years ago my step mother died and in a span of 6 months I gained almost back to my pre-surgery weight!!!! Scared the crap out of me when I finally got the nerve to step on the scale. I went back to the therapist and cleaned up my eating back to the way I am suppose to eat and can say I am back to my normal weight. Food addiction doesn't go away because of surgery. Please find someone to talk to.

Per my Surgeon, I can walk for 6 weeks and nothing more than walking. Do you have a treadmill you can use? I have heard others say they use the You Tube videos of Leslie Sansones for the walking. you can try that.

I dont think you are being irrational at all and you are most definitely NOT a loser. It is she that should be jealous of you and your self control cause she obviously has none and in the end that is going to come back and bite her in the ass. And for those people commenting, ignore them. They have no idea how differently people lose and this isn't their journey. They will never understand. You just keep doing the right thing and in the end it will be you who has the success!

Start VERY slow, especially if you're nervous. Have only a TINY mouthful of puree and wait to see how it sits for you. It may make you feel sick, and eating more than a bean-sized amount at a time can make that worse. Listen to your body, you'll know when it's time to stop. Trust me. lol. You can do this!! I had a tiny amount of pudding first and it was pure bliss.

The sipping, in the beginning, is because with all the swelling in your stomach, the Fluid needs to trickle through. Once the swelling eases up, you will be able to drink normally. Not huge gulps, but normal drinking, which will enable you to get to 64 oz much more easily. Most people can drink more by the end of the first week.

    Hello everyone,
I am POD 10 now. I saw my NP yesterday for a f/u visit and she tells me I'm doing well.....
Anyway, I have been experiencing a right upper abdominal burning pain lately, worse with hunger which wakes me up in the middle of the night when it comes on. The pain reduces once I take in a few bites of my dilluted yogurt, but returns after a couple of hours.
Has anyone experienced this? What should i be considering as a factor? My NP did not comment on that but I requested for an h-pylory test which is pending. Thanks.

The gas you're experiencing is probably not in your gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, there's nothing to burp.
The gas is likely surgical gas that was used to inflate your abdominal cavity in order to perform the surgery. Walking and incentive spirometry help your body dissipate this gas. Tums will not help. Gas-x will not help. Only time and activity. Other things that help: heating pad and massage.
This is kind of the process. It will pass.

Did they give you an Incentive Spirometer? Are you using it hourly? It helps so much with those gas bubbles!

As mentioned above walking and a spirometer help immensely. The other thing that helped for me was having someone rub my back in slow circular motions. I don't know what it was about that but it helped release a ton of gas when the other two didn't.
Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

    Hi All,
7 month out and I am about 15 pounds away from goal and finally under 200 pounds. Started at 318 and down to 198. My dr stated that getting the last 15 pounds will take some time and now that I am so close to goal. Feeling good and so happy with my decision.

Walking tends to help with that, do as much as possible. Pain meds tend to do nothing for that pain as well. It will settle try your best to stay positive

    Hi Carly,
My name is Andrea; I am new here too, my seminar is this Saturday. I am a planner, so not knowing the full treatment plan, pre-op nutrition timeline and weight loss requirement is kinda killing me. I've been reading articles and posts like mad. Two people from my work (same insurance) have had their surgeries approved, so as long as I do my part I expect the same, which is a relief. I'm hesitant to talk about my surgery plans - I'm not sure why - otherwise I would be plying them with questions.
Thank you for sharing information on your appointments and journey so far, it helps to know what to expect. Would love to be pre-op buddies!
