  1. Hi All, I am 1 year out and have lost 100Lbs. WooHoo. So I am on to maintenance fills. I will be relocating from Denver, CO to Atlanta, GA soon. Does anyone have any recommendations for doctors or facilities that can do fills in the Atlanta area? Thanks for the help Shannon

    very very upset

After the first month I was getting fills or adjustments every two weeks. It took 5 fills to get the restriction I felt comfortable with. I don't know why your doctor is being so conservative. If you are not happy with him I would suggest looking at other doctors and their programs and see what there processes are. As for your husband I would still encorage him to persue the Lapband but with another doctor. My dr has an wonderful before and after program the teach what you need to know before hand and they have classes and monthly support groups for after. They were very clear about the processes what you can expect and that everyone is different and will lose differently. Not that that makes it any easier when you are slowly losing. So short advice long. Speak with your doc and if he still seems like he isn't listening the try to find someone else. Once you get the restriction you need I think you will fill much differently. Remember it can take a while to get to where you need to be but you will get there. Shannon

    Paying Attention: My New Obsession

I totally do the same thing. Especially when I am eating out with friends I am satisfied with half the meal or less and I watch them clean their plate and I have to bite my tongue and remember that I used to do that and if it weren't for the band I still would. I notice what and how much everyone eats and am amazed. You are not alone. :frown:

    It's Official!!

Thank you. I would say that I have worked hard at not letting my temptations get the better of me. I have been working out almost the whole time. At first it was just walking 30 mins a day but I keep adding more. I do yoga twice a week and I have started riding my bike. I have also tried to remain very positive even when I have hit a plateaus I know that they won't last forever and I need to make an adjustment to what I am either eating or doing to try and get it going again. As long as it isn't going back up then that is something. Victory just isn't in the scale it is also in the things you accomplish that you couldn't do before. I can ride a bike...comfortably. I can do yoga. I can go for long walks with out my feet hurting for weeks after. I can go from my basement to my second floor bedroom and not be out of breath on the verge of a heart attack. Just remember this is about more than a number. I hope this helps. If you have any questions or just needs someone to talk too. Feel free to lean on me. Shannon

    Another milestone to AWESOMENESS!!

I just looked at your blog. Talk about awesome!! It is amazing what people can do when they apply themselves. Thanks for the encouragement. It means a lot coming from someone who has done so much.

    Another milestone to AWESOMENESS!!

Well I just got back from my first bike ride in...oh...lets say 17 years. I bought this bike a year ago trying to find "fun" ways to exercise. HA! I didn't make it very far before turning back and I was way all over the place that I was a danger to others on the trail. Anyway, I have now lost 66lbs since then and decided to try it again. It is amazing the difference. I just rode over two miles to the bowling alley, bowled a couple games rode to a restaurant close by and rode back. Except for some wobbles that will straighten up with more time on the bike it was awesome. I was dreading this hill that was on the way and thinking I would have to walk part way but it was cake. I warned my friend that this had potential to go bad fast but we were both blown away with how AWESOME I did. Now I know I can do it I will be going a lot more places on my bike and saving some money on gas. As a wise panda has recently told me. "There is no charge for awesomeness." Thank goodness, because I am taking all I can get. I have been stuck at 245 for a couple weeks now but I am taking my victories where I can get them. Love ya Shannon:tt2:

Never Thought I Was Vain, But...(Hair Related)

I think the dry hair has to do a lot with the low amount of fats we take in. The right fats are good for hair and skin. Fish oils are supposed to be really good for your hair. You might want to try adding this to your Vitamin regiment to see if this helps. Shannon

I am this close to boycotting Target

They just opened a new Super Target in town. I needed to get some new jeans (all mine are too big). Just one pair, that's all. I figured its new and it is bigger so they must have a bigger and better selection in the plus size dept. WRONG!! The whole "Women's" section consisted of 5 racks of clothes. Half of one rack was one style of capri pants in a few colors another half were these wierd plaid shorts. The rest were shirts. two steps to the right was the maternity section (which is two to three times larger) and two steps to the left is the sportswear section. I kept walking around the area thinking I was missing something. I finally accepted that there were only indeed 5 racks to choose from I went went to get some underwear. Based on the size scale on the back of the package I would have been a size 10. The only size 10's they had were in the granny pannie style. I know I have gotten the hippsters in my size at Walmart. When I was this size 10 years ago Target had lots of "cool" clothes for the younger overweight crowd. Then they just stopped an only carried the bare minimum. Considering that half the country is in plus sizes I just don't get it. When I was so frustrated I just had to get out of there I took my non clothing purchases to the cashier. She asked if I found everything and very nicely I told her that I was a little upset about the plus size section. She seemed rather sympathetic and said that most of the clothing lines went up to the XL sizes (I chose to take that as a compliment meaning she thought I could fit in to a non plus XL). She then admitted that she didn't realize they had a plus section. I chose not to say anything as the store has been open such a short time and the girl was as thin as a rail and the term plus size probably rarely crosses her mind. (Not that I hold it against her -I swear) She told me several times that she would mention it to the higher ups. I thanked her for her time and consideration for my frustration. I think that even when I get down to a 16 and no longer have to shop in the plus sizes I will not shop at Target. They are almost completely ignoring a large part of the population. I hope that you in internet land have more plus size friendly stores but I find that not to be the case here in Colorado. I am curious to know if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks for listening. Shannon:scared2:

Friendly Observation part 1 of 2

I was reading a thread the other day that disturbed me. It wasn't the topic but rather how members interacted. I will not mention the topic or any names as I am not trying to put anyone in their place or offend. Here is what happened. A rather serious question was asked and a response was given by one member that was not glowing of the band. This member was then "attacked" by others demanding to know why they feel that way and questioning their motives for making such a post. Things went back and forth and it was such a negative downward spiral that the initial question by the poster was basically ignored and the offending member declaring that they will not be returning to the site. That was not the first time I had seen something like this in a thread. It really bothers me to see this happening over and over again. I have had a very positive experience with my band and will shout its praises to anyone who will listen. I do realize that unfortunately others will not have the same great results as myself and will have a negative view to share. Nothing works for everyone. I also realized that some people bring their issues upon themselves and it is great when they acknowledge this when posting something negative. When they do not "fess up" that does not mean we should make them. Or accuse them of having ulterior motives. What purpose does this serve other than to shoot the person down. People should hear about others experiences whether positive or negative. I think and know on this site you will find way more positive reviews and information for those seeking it. If negative views are given we should leave it up to the person asking the question what to do with it. If they are concerned then they will ask more questions to get clarification. Either on the site or of their doctor. continued in part 2

The key is staying positive and doing what is best for you. The truth is that no one is an expert and can only tell you what they think. If you feel that this is the right choice for you then go for it. Congrats and feel free to ask me any questions as you progress.

I hear ya. Typically we are just trying to fade into the background but the clothes they offer want to make sure NO ONE misses us. If you missed me before you can't avoid me now.

    Best day ever!!

Today was a great day. I went down a size in pants. I am now an official size 20. I was at a size 24 (unofficial 26) when I had the "installation". One more size and I will be the same I was in high school. (11 years ago):jaw: I also made it all the way through my hot yoga class without having to sit down due to dizzyness. Freakin AWESOME! :w00t::tongue2: That was a great feeling and it was very hard not to shout WooHoo! when we completed the standing series and I had made it all the way through. Would have thrown off the vibe and that is very bad yoga etiquette. To put it simply I ROCK!!!!!:sad::party:

    Weight Loss

First congratulations. Second. 10lbs in one week is nothing to sneeze at. When is the last time you could say that Do not compare yourself with others. There are a lot of variables at play. How much a person has to lose. What their metabolizim is like. How active they are during the first two weeks. Etc. It is hard to say why some people lose faster than others (all else being equal) even if they are not doing anything wrong. Focus on your journey and you will do great.
