    Hey guys!
I'm 2 weeks into the solid food stage and I'm craving some veggies but I'm scared of how my sleeve will take it. I've just been going on Protein for the past 2 weeks but I am looking for some sides to pair them with.
Any suggestions? What did you start with and how did you make them?
    Thank you!

eggs are a godsend for me right now as it's my easiest Protein source. I don't think I'm ready enough for porkchops any time soon haha
I'll definitely try some slowcooker recipes and hopefully they're soft enough for my sleeve to tolerate.

    Thanks!

Good point- sometimes I get full from the taste from chewing it too much rather than being actually full from the portions

    Hey guys!
I'm 6 weeks post op and my doctor says I can now move to solid food- but I'm having a hard time with meat- even the really soft kinds like slow cooked pork, beef and chicken. I can however have ground pork and beef and it's fine.
How long until you sleevers got to tolerate actual solid food and what did you start with?
    Thank you!

Thank you! Weirdly it's the "harder meat" I can tolerate and fish and chicken just don't sit well on my sleeve. Hopefully this is just a phase and my sleeve will get over it.
Thank goodness for eggs as that's the best I can tolerate for now

I tried fish a few days ago and unfortunately it wasn't so pleasant. tuna I can't tolerate as well I'll experiment with other kinds and hopefully I find a few choices that work

I'll definitely be more careful from now on. I'm imagining scenarios of me being wheeled into the ER to remove something stuck in my pouch- definitely want to avoid that.
We're a family of fast eaters so I really have to train myself to put my fork down between bites.

Same here- I really need to practice eating mindfully. It's harder than I thought it would be

Thanks for the tip- I mashed a boiled potato with some sauce from a stew the other day and it went down fine. I just had to make sure I mashed it super well

Funny when you mentioned the sitting beside vs. sitting across thing too

    Hey guys!
I was just wondering if anyone ever experienced eating too big chunks of food?
I've just started on soft foods and still getting the hang of eating slowly and chewing super well and sometimes I just really forget to chew and end up swallowing bigger pieces. Luckily they're soft foods (eggs to be exact) so I haven't had any issues but just wondering what happens if you swallow a too big of a piece of let's say chicken or meat? Does it get stuck in your pouch? and how would you know to seek medical help or to wait it out?
    Thank you!

I see your point and I appreciate the honest feedback.
My doctor wants me to hit at least 40 grams and I'm currently hitting a max of 30g so I definitely need to step it up. I think the pressure was just getting to me and I've been getting so anxious about not hitting it so I do need to relax a bit but figure out a system to my protein going. So I guess I need to do a mix of both haha

I was never able to reach any of my Protein or fluid goals post-op. I was lucky to get 250 calories per day. I fretted about it briefly, then decided to concentrate on healing. You can make yourself crazy with all those grams and Fluid ounces. Some days you'll do fairly well meeting a recommended requirement, other days you'll feel like a complete failure.
My three-month labs turned out fine. I've lost almost 80lbs since June. The way I see it, I could have beaten up on myself daily for not meeting my protein/fluid goals or I could just relax (which is what I decided to do) and let each day unfold without stressing out. I'm glad I chose the latter. I feel lucky to be one of those who didn't face feeling hungry or starved post-operatively. I only rarely feel hungry now.
Some else I learned, don't compare. A fellow forum member and I had pretty much the same surgery date. She was losing like crazy... about 30lbs more than I was during the same time frame. I let it get to me. Once I got over that feeling (with the wise advice of friends here), I've been losing as well. Only a couple of brief stalls, too.
