15 more days of liquid before surgery. Been on this already more than that. I can’t wait to get real food. I have never been a sweets person and all these Protein Shakes are starting to get to me. I drank Water all day and just stared at the the shakes like yes I know I have to drink you but I don’t wanna. How is everyone else doing with their preop liquid phase?!

Sorry you are on that horrible liquid diet. I started my "liver shrinking diet" Sunday and it's bearable.

3 years ago I looked in to it with Dr. Tu (?spel) in Viera and decided not to do it. Then I had no high blood pressure problems and weighed 30 lbs. less. In August of this year I went to a Ortho doc and the doc had the sleeve done in Sebastian and referred me there. I live in Indialantic so for me, the drive is much better. Congrats!!

I have been seeing that so many people have surgery on the same date as me, December 7th. I would love to connect with all of you who have surgery on that date so we can motivate, push, and even vent to each other about the process since we will all be going through it at the same time. I have been trying to find a community of people and feel as though this is the best way to do so. We can exchange recipes and give each other advice on what to eat or do. Please comment and let's connect!

I only have/had 80 pounds to loose I have been on the liquid diet for a week now and already lost 10 pounds. My surgery isn’t until December 22. I have been starving for a week where my hubby can hear my tummy growling and my blood sugars are in the mid 200s with medication! I meet with my dietician in the morning. I am hoping she will shed some light on what more I can do. I’m only allowed 2 Protein Shakes a day also. Anyone else starving? If so what do you do that helps?

My surgery is Dec. 22nd and I don't start my preop diet until Saturday. I'm not looking forward to it. Keep me posted.

I had my surgery 11/01. It’s interesting how your psych evaluation lasted only about 5 minutes. I don’t how they can determine anything with that. However, I’m sure you’re ready to handle your surgery as they wouldn’t have passed you through. When I had my telehealth psych evaluation at lasted the whole entire hour. Plus they asked me if I have an outside therapist that works with me due to history of mental health. I told them I do. The psychiatrist also asked me if my therapist can work with me about what triggers me to eat the bad foods. I told her yes and that my therapist has been working with me since I started the program. So I was lucky to have my outside therapist that works with me on my mental health issues and helps me figure out what triggers I need to deal with so I don’t end up back to eating the bad foods. I will be having a second psych evaluation after my 3 month follow up with my doctor. Best wishes with your upcoming surgery.

Wow! Good for you. Thanks for sharing. I have no idea how the psych eval. works. I did tell my surgeon about the 5 min. meeting. Yes, I was shocked when I answered her 30 questions and then she said she was done and the other 50 minutes goes with her writing her evaluation. Thanks for the wishes as well and good luck with your new bod.

Hi. I am having my gastric bypass on the same day 12/22/21 in Stuart Florida. Do you realize our date is a palindrome kinda. Anyway. I wish you well. I’m struggling to get my insurance company to approve my cardiac clearance testing because they say they don’t know why I’m having it even though my primary sent the referral explaining why and the cardiologist and sent in his notes. It is there requirement that I get the clearance for surgery but won’t approve it. I’m afraid I’m going to have to pay out of pocket in order to have it done in time for surgery. I’ve called multiple times spoke to multiple people but the same outcome. Any advice

I never realized our date is a palindrome. Ha. I don't know anything about clearances. My insurance has a big deductible so I'm mostly paying for it anyway. I wish you luck as well. Maybe others on here can help you.

My surgery is December 17th in Mexico at OCC( Obesity Control Center ). I have been reading a lot on here and I'm noticing a lot of variances as to when people start their liquid diets. I was instructed liquid diet for 2 days prior to surgery but some of you are on the liquid for up to a month..... SHeesh!! Anyone know why?

I was told I have to start a special "liver shrinking diet" 2 weeks before. My doctor prescribes for everyone, not just me. Then liquid diet 2 days before. Good you don't have to do the 2 week before.

Hahaha!!! Dont feel guilty! If you think now, your friends give you that look, after surgery, youre gonna be a celebrity! My family members that didnt know i had the RNY immediately found out and started asking my mom how i was, how was the surgery, its like disbelief. Had my surgery on Nov 1. And this Thanksgiving were hosting, so i cant wait to see the look on friends faces when i eat chicken broth with veggies. And at church we had a chili cook off, i did my chili and didnt eat the whole time, and when i told people why, they just hang on you, like a super power. Its funny, really! By the way, im in Ft Myers, so were across from each other. Good luck!

    Hi guys ...
I’m on my 5 month pre op for sleeve and didn’t loose yet the weight 😞 required by my insurance , the nutri told me today that I must loose 10 pounds or they won’t approved me . My question- does anyone had been through this ?how did overcome ? I’ve been following the meal plan ; I guess I will have to put more effort on it —just afraid I will not make it - I’ve come so far

I hear ya! Everyone is different. All of our metabolism's are different, including males which are much faster than ours. You are on this site because you've tried everything to lose and you can't. If your insurance company says you need to then you're going to have to do it. It stinks!

    Day 3 post op sleeve

I am much better than yesterday and a million times better than day one.

I got to go home today. I took a shower immediately.

I feel hungry. I was really hoping i didn’t feel hungry.
I’ve been sipping on my Protein Water mixed with Miralax.

I’m still very sleepy and a bit shakey. Not much for incision pain, just a little tender above the port sight where they pulled a portion of stomach out.

Feeling hopeful that every day gets better, because it has already gotten better everyday. My nausea is minimal and the gas pains are nearly gone.

I never tooK the narcotics in the hospital and said no thanks to the prescription. I only got Toradol IV for the pain, as I could not keep the liquid form down. I was really scared about ripping the staple line when I coughed, but I guess I’m alright.

I decided I won’t weigh until the post op visit.

Thank you for sharing. Glad you're feeling better.

    Hey everyone!

    Just had sleeve yesterday morning.

    I was a self pay.

first day was the worse than today. I’ve been nauseous ever since I woke from surgery.

it’s hard for me to distinguish from gas pain and nausea. I managed to get 8 oz down yesterday. I threw up the gabapentin immediately. Feeling scared to try anything. My nurse said he’ll have me try the Tylenol at some point.

belly just feel like I worked out my abs, and getting up takes some work.

I’ve walked until I get tired, which a about 5 laps around my room.

today is better than yesterday, but boy does this suck!!!!

    And my room freezing.

nothing good today yet, just that today is better.

Thank you for sharing. My surgery is in December. Hope you are feeling better.

  12. When I had my first Bariatric doctor visit and decided to do this, I told myself I was not going to say anything about it to my friends. Not close friends but groups of people we hang out with at times. Well, I've been telling a lot of people and I kick myself every time. I just can't shut up about it. Most people look at me like I have 2 heads and go on about how it's extreme and scary and oh "you better be aware that it will change your life a lot". I want to snap back and say, don't you think I know that and don't you think I've done a lot of research on this before I going in to it? Most don't have any clue about it. My fat friends look and feel guilty when I start talking about it, like I'm going to try and talk them in to it.

I guess, I'm just excited and I want to talk about it. Then I get disappointed when I get weird, uneducated, ignorant responses. That's why I love to get on this site. It brings me back to why I'm doing it and how great my life will be and that I'm not alone.

Hi! I am scheduled for my bariatric sleeve on December 10th. I will be traveling to Mexico because my insurance does not cover weight loss surgery. I’m nervous and excited too. I’m so sick of the up and downs and I’m looking forward to stability, being healthy and looking and feeling good. I provided the clinic with my information and based on the information they suggested the sleeve.

Good luck to you and keep us posted.

    Hi Friends!

I rarely ever get on this anymore, but I know how pivotal these forums were to me at the beginning of my journey to have people alongside me going through similar experiences! I did this around this time last year and figured another post wouldn't hurt anyone. So, the facts! I'm currently 3.5 years out from VSG, down 140 pounds and kept off, and still living my best life! I have had two plastic surgeries, completed two degrees, and have never been happier in my life. For those just beginning, please do not get discouraged. I remember so vividly the nights I would cry with regret that I had made such a mistake, that my life was ruined, that I was upset I couldn't just do it the "normal" way. These are such valid feelings, but with time they fade. I still have my moments, even this far out, where I have thoughts of "I wonder.." but they are quickly shut down when I think of the quality of life I have provided for myself by going on this journey and seeing photos of myself from 4-5 years ago. So stay strong, stay dedicated, count those grams of Protein and ounces of water!! You have silent supporters in your corner! Always happy to answer questions or provide words of encouragement! Sending best wishes and hugs to all those who need it!

    Thank you for sharing.

Me!!!! December 8th!!! I am so excited, but kinda nervous if I can actually do this. You know make all the changes needed. Anyone else?

Yes, I'm nervous as well but excited at the same time. It sort of forces you in to doing what is needed and that IS what I need. How did you decide you wanted the Bypass? I had a hard time deciding the Sleeve or Bypass and finally decided on on the Sleeve. Keep us posted.

Hi armartin! I was 68 in July 2020 when I had VSG surgery. Minimal pain (only needed plain Tylenol), no nausea, able to tolerate the various food stages, did stairs in my house, slept in my bed, drove a few days after surgery. My weight at the start of the pre-op diet was 200. By now, my rate of weight loss is quite slow, maybe 1-2 lbs/month, but I am staying the course and am happy with the results thus far. Only wish I had done this ages ago, but I never thought of bariatric surgery or dreamed it could be done on lower BMI patients (I had to self pay).

Loved hearing this. Thank you for sharing.
