What kind are you drinking? Some are thicker than others. Also, they do make clear Protein Drinks. That’s what they gave me in the hospital. Good luck!!

My medical team clearly said to not take Flinstones or children’s Vitamins as they don’t contain the right vitamins and dosages for adult bariatric patients.

And this is exactly why I was very selective in who I have told about my surgery. I didn't need negative, judgmental people in my life. I have enough trouble dealing with my own, negative self-talk.

I've had a BMI between 40 and 45 for ~20yrs. A lot of obesity in my family. I've tried a number of diets and medically supervised weight loss programs. Only to lose weight and gain more back. I have very high blood pressure and cholesterol (on meds), I've developed pulmonary hypertension, a heart murmur, I have a bad back, and the Ortho just told me I will need total knee replacement very soon. I've researched WLS for over 10 years and have been to seminars with 3 different bariatric centers. I'm over 50 and I decided it's long been time.
Because I have some dysfunctional, rude and shallow people in my family, I've elected to tell no one but my wife about WLS. I really don't want people to think about WLS everytime they see me. I don't want the questions. And most of all, for their own sake, I don't want to give them a chance to say something ignorant. Just the thought of it makes my blood boil.
So, if you have unsuccessfully tried to lose weight a number of times, medically qualify for WLS, and have done your homework on WLS, you have the right and obligation to improve and even save your life.

The people I told before hand were a very select group. If I caught wind of any negativity I usually nipped it with “ if being at a healthy weight was just sheer will power, determination and motivation I’d be there but it’s not for me - I need more help”. Those who I knew were negative I just didn’t tell until after it was done (and I’ve already got I’m so jealous comments)... can’t win with them.

I love this board because I can find someone who is or has been in a similar place at any time. Supportive and tough love when I need it.

    OMFG
    DUMPING while on a date.
    I just wanted to cry.
Finally went on a date again . Met someone fantastic, decided on sushi, but most sushi will literally kill me so I had tempura vegetables and scallion pancakes. Dumping. I had to keep making odd excuses why I need to run to the restroom. They mostly centred around being super hydrated but I was very unfocused. I hope it wasn't super noticable, but I'm sure it was...😥
I hope he wants to go out again. I am just going to order Water, coffee or tea.

I had my sleeve done 10/10/18. I am currently in the hospital in extreme pain. I have a blood clot in my stomach. Apparently it is very rare. My doctor has only seen it 3 times in 20 + years. Has anyone else had this issue? Or am I alone

I have 2 boys that were 6 and 7 when I had my surgery in April. Yes, our kids need us and depend on us for life to life things, but if we don't get better we might not be here permanently. I told my boys exactly what I was doing and they went to my appt with me to see the surgeon. I call them my little ducks because they follow me everywhere. I homeschool and my boys are literally with me constantly. I wanted them to know mommy was getting healthy. They told me I didn't need surgery because I was beautiful the way I was. But I had to tell them that my heaviness is what makes me check my sugar and give myself insulin, etc. I was selfish to be unselfish. This isn't a cosmetic surgery, this is a surgery to help you change your life and become healthier for yourself and your babies.

This is the best post/thread ever! I am 12 days post-op (gastric sleeve) and tonight I blended some chicken tortilla Soup - even though I’m not on puréed foods yet. It was so good and it didn’t bother me at all - but I do feel a bit guilty!

Those are slider foods, they won’t make you feel restriction. Once you can eat dense Protein you will feel it. I dare you to eat some chicken breast and see how you feel. Once you are cleared for it of course, I don’t want you rupturing your staple line. Everyone feels the same way right after surgery. I went through it as well. Hang around here long enough and you will see other noobs asking the same question and saying the same things about restriction.

Thanks so much for all your great ideas! I hadn’t thought much about this before my surgery (I was mostly focused on my “freaking out” and on what I would be eating/drinking at the different stages)! I do love the idea of “day dates” instead of at night because then we can do more active stuff - especially after I get the “all clear” from my surgeon. For now walking does seem like a good thing - as long as their are benches as CrankyMagpie suggested! Thanks again! You guys are the best!! ❤️❤️

    Soft Proteins, yes.

    I used my own recipe.

    2 eggs
    15oz part skim ricotta
    1/4 cup grated parmesan
    1tsp ground garlic
    1tsp black pepper
    Dash of basil
    1tsp Italian seasoning
    1tsp salt

    Mix all these well.

Spoon 1 to 2 teaspoons into each spot on a mini muffin baking pan that you’ve sprayed with Pam.

Sprinkle a touch of reduced fat mozzarella on top of each.

    Bake 20 minutes at 375.

I’m thinking of making a bariatric cooking/recipe blog. I love cooking and being inventive and really want to stay within my approved foods. So it may be neat!

First of all... good on you for recognizing and admitting you have a problem. That’s not an easy step and is honestly the hardest part. You should be proud that you’re able to be so honest with yourself. Most people go years and can never manage to do so!

At this point, I would really recommend finding a therapist or counselor who specializes in addiction treatment. They will be the ones that can help you figure out what you’ve been using food and now alcohol to really cope with.

Best of luck to you! It’s time to take control and you’ve already taken the hardest step!

Hey there... I've read about people who've had the wls that start a new addiction... instead of food they turn to something else...
I think I'm one of them... and there's no one I can talk to about it where I live...
I drink wine... everyday.... not just a glass, not just a bottle, sometimes it's 2 bottles or even 3... once I pour a glass or even take a sip I can't stop till I either pass out or run out.
It gets kind of bad sometimes, I wake up not remembering what I did before sleeping... but the thing I recently realized about why I drink... it's "healthier"to me then putting food into my mouth... I'm so terrified to gain weight back!
It's hard to explain really...I don't know... maybe it's me just being stupid...idk...I make 2 years November 1st...
I guess I just wanted to know if I was alone or not???

I had surgery roughly a week before you did, and I've dragged my spouse out to walk with me most days since then. It's been good. We've had a chance to enjoy some local parks (I'm not above driving a couple of miles to go on a more interesting walk :)) and to talk to each other. Pick parks that you know have benches to start out. Being able to take breaks now and then has helped me a lot!

Movies, paint night, walks, sight seeing, museums, shopping, going to gym together.
Turn date nights into day dates. For my husband and I, our dates still very much revolve around food. I just eat differently. Your life doesn’t have to change, just the way you eat.
Have you and your hubby take little sheets of paper, you each write down some date ideas with a percentage of them being new things you’ve never experienced. Each week, you pick a piece of paper and plan to do it that week. It’s fun!
