I’m only 2 weeks out from surgery - but once I get low enough I want to go horseback riding. I haven’t been in 30 years because I’ve been too heavy (poor horse!). One of my goals is to be able to ride again!!

Let's take a look at these:
#1: most patients will lose 10-15 lb on any substantially low calorie diet, whether solid or liquid.
#2: liquid or solid is irrelevant to Protein content, though lean meat and green veg will have better nutrition than most any Protein Drink.
#3: liquid or solid diet is irrelevant to change in liver condition - it's the carbohydrates, or lack thereof, that counts.
#4: how does one gain a /mental awareness of calories, portion sizes and ingredients when restricted to liquids?
#5: so this is just a test or challenge for the patient?
#6: it only takes a few hours for the stomach to be empty for surgery, not weeks. This is why most gastric scopes or surgeries simply require no eating after midnight prior to surgery.
#7: unless one has to buy a proprietary diet product from the surgeon!
Overall, I prefer bariatric surgeons who know their way around obese patients and who prefer their patients to be as strong and healthy as possible going into surgery - which multi week fasts don't do. If a surgeon is intimidated by fatty livers and needs help in working around them, then by all means do everything necessary to make him feel comfortable when he is rootin' around on your insides, but he should also do everything to help the patient feel comfortable with the process - at least let them have some steak along the way!

That would scare the bejesus out of me. I'm terrified of heights. Maybe I should tell my husband that the piercing is for reaching onderland. Then I could get a bday present on top. lol I'm sure going to try

I haven't made any big announcements, but when someone comes up to me to congratulate me on all the weight i've lost and asks, "how did you do it?" hoping that have some kind of amazing dieting tip in my back pocket, I usually tell them straight out. It just feels wrong to lie. I also make sure to point out that it's not all free and easy. It takes work, huge lifestyle changes, and there are nasty side effects.
I've had a couple of big guys want to grab coffee afterward to get more details. You can tell it's something that they considered, so they're excited to talk to someone who's done it and had success.

I found future tripping about food was rough. I travel all over the world and if I got in my head all the food I thought I'd be missing it gets rough. Now I make my plan just for today and I know I can stick to my food plan just these next 24 hours and it worked. Before I knew it days turned into weeks and weeks into years and I never focused beyond my plan just for today. Mentally the stresses went away and I enjoyed what I could eat. I have always had a lot of restriction and I still do though. I think I have a very small sleeve, but it works for me. Cheers. Enjoy the journey, it's worth it!

I’m 52 (so a bit younger but not too much). I had surgery on 10/10 and my only issues were nausea and heartburn for 4-5 days. Other than that I was fine. I walked the halls in the hospital (slowly at first) with little to no pain and by 1 week I was moving like I did pre-surgery. Good luck!!

4 Weeks out from sleeve surgery. I’ve found deli turkey to go down very easily. I buy organic fat-free turkey slices at costco. A serving size of two slices is 50 calories. And I also buy cheddar cheese indivually wrapped pieces. Each has 50 calories. 4 slices of turkey and 1 piece of cheese is 150 calories and 30 g of Protein with no fat. Your hunger will be satisfied all day.

I started this whole journey last Oct 2017 when I found out that my back issues and pain I have been in for over 20 years was found to be caused by the disappearance of a disk in my lower back along with my spine being very miss aligned. The orthopedic told me he wouldnt do surgery to fix my back until I lost 50 pounds and not to take to long to do it because he couldn't understand why I wasn't paralyzed already. I weighed in a 365 lbs then.
In the process of doing all the hoop jumping for the insurance company for me to have the sleeve done I lost 35 lbs in a year. I just had my sleeve done on the 16 of October and have no clue what my weight is ringing in at, at this time, due to the fact I dont have a home scale that can handle my weight to begin with. I go back to the doc the 31 for my 2 week check up and am curious to see how much I have lost.
I know I have lost some but not knowing the amounts is driving me nuts right now. All I can say is my pants are getting looser and I might need a belt soon to keep them up
I love the fact that this thread is started I am over 40 years old (44 to be exact), and over 300 lbs. I know reading others stories and success helps me know I can do this and I am not the only one who has had to go threw it all.

I think the “is it because I’m visually appealing” question is tough, but I totally get it. Someone else mentioned we all have types, and this is true, I’m sure many of us have noticed being treated differently the closer we get to physically looking “socially acceptable” and it is a bit of a mindf$&@! for sure!

Keep in mind- the physical side is only part of the equation when it comes to dating. Sure- your appearance may have been the cause of their initial interest, but it’s the inner stuff, the personality, that keeps interest. I mean, I think flowers are beautiful, but I can’t hold a conversation with one. 😂

Being nervous is totally normal. But just remember, you couldn't be in a better place if something does go wrong! And, don't forget about all your reasons for getting the surgery, keep that in mind when you start getting too scared or frustrated with losses after surgery.

That. Ask anything you have questions for, don't be shy, don't be coy, just be flat out honest and unwavering in your questions, if you are concerned but don't know why, it's ok to say so.

I’m 52 and had surgery on 10/10. I wish I did it years ago but I don’t focus on the past. I’m focused on today - and the future! My highest weight was (an embarrassing 365). Surgery weight was 327 and I was 316 as of this morning.

Embarrassing story (happened right before I decided on WLS). My husband and I went for dinner and decided to eat on the back deck because a musician was going to be out there playing music. They had these old crappy plastic chairs and when I sat in mine it literally disintegrated under me and I ended up flat on my back. I almost DIED of embarrassment!! I took it as a wake up call and had surgery 2 weeks ago today. If ever I want to cheat (in the future) I hope I remember how totally mortified I was that night!! 😰
