  1. Hi guys:

I’m Julie , I’m new here and  getting close to surgery and I’m still undecided on sleeve vs bypass. My apprehension comes from things I’ve heard over the years, horror stories. I realize my fear may be based on things which may not be true and I know the procedure has went through many updates and improvements. I worry about dumping and malabsorption. My surgeon is recommending bypass and my provider in the program likes the sleeve. So I’m making myself crazy. Anyone having surgery at Bailey in Owasso, OK. I could use a buddy.

When I was making my decision, after doing my research, I ruled out the sleeve because I already had severe reflux. My doctor asked me about the duodenal switch but I had already decided on the gastric bypass. It was the best decision for me. I never had any pain afterwards. I have never had "dumping syndrome" because I don't eat the things that cause it-high sugar! I have had what I call the most perfect surgery possible. I lost 114% of my excess weight and have maintained it for about 2 yrs now because I follow the guidelines I was given. This is a lifestyle change, not any easy way out! I will be 3 yrs post op in Oct. One of the best decisions I ever made! Good luck with your decision.

Last year I had a lower body lift as well as arm lift. Totally worth it! Next month I'm having breast and back lift. Early next year I plan to have thigh lift.

  3. Hi everyone!!! I hope all is well.

After a bariatric Surgery/gastric bypass procedure and a patient loses over 100lbs/has a lot of loose skin............. does that SAME Surgeon perform a tummy tuck and a loose skin removal for the patient/ does health insurance cover it?

I will be sure to ask the Surgeon when I have my initial meeting with him/her 2 months from now.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

No, different surgeons. A plastic surgeon does the tummy tuck and skin removal. You would have to check with your insurance for coverage because they are all different. Some cover panniculectomy (loose skin hanging from the abd) but most will not be covered.

  4. Having a hard time fighting head hunger. I would love to hear everyone's trick on how they fight it.

This may sound ridiculous but I just reach down and feel my hip bones or put my hands around my waist or look at myself sideways in a mirror and feel proud of the hard work I've done and then I'm able to say, "nope, don't need that...I'm not hungry!" Sometimes when I go grocery shopping and I see something that I would of bought pre Gastric bypass, I say to myself, "I choose not to buy that." I don't ever say, "I can't have that." I can have anything I want. I'm an adult and I make my own choices! I chose a new lifestyle and I love the choices I make now! It's all a head game isn't it?

  6. Still dont feel skinny/thin..wonder when that is going to happen.

I don't "feel" skinny/thin either but I know I am just by looking in a full length mirror! I remember one time I was in TJMAXX and passed a mirror and saw myself from the side. I had to stop and take another look because I couldn't believe that was me. Actually, I never felt "morbidly obese" either. I just knew I was by looking at the size of my clothing and the number on the scale!

  7. Finally mustered up the courage to write that letter to my insurance about plastics. Now it's wait and see.

I'm sick today. Diarrhea, stomach ache, eyes slightly burning, feeling a bit sub-febrile, being cold all day. Went to the doctor's and got a sick leave until Thursday. Seems kind of silly during vacation but one gets the vacation days back later.

Good luck with your decision. The only thing I thought was urgent was arms! There is no way I could wear anything sleeveless without the surgery and I live in Florida. I told my doctor my goal is "cute, sleeveless dresses in the summertime!" I don't know if most docs do this but with mine you pay full price for the most expensive procedure and then 1/2 price for the rest. So it's better to do as much as possible each time. Keep in touch if you have any specific questions and I'll help you if I can.

I just had plastics 11 days ago. I'm already impressed!. I had lower body lift -abdominoplasty ( I didn't need muscle tightening) panniculectomy, mons plasty (yes, they even lift the pubic area!) butt lift with fat transfer to butt, and brachioplasty. The arms are more uncomfortable than the lower body but the pain has been very well controlled after the first 2 days. I wish I could of gotten my drains out at my first post op appointment but did not. I have 4 in the lower body, none in the arms. I wasn't afraid to have plastics because to me it was just kind of continuing the process of my lifestyle change. My next stage will be Breast lift and back and my third stage will be inner thigh lift with fat transfer to breasts. I didn't use insurance. All they would of paid for was the panniculectomy and I didn't want to jump through all their hoops to get approved. I just wanted it done "now." I was originally scheduled for May 5 but got delayed because of covid.

  9. Why do I keep hurting myself? Even if Im losing the weight, I can still feel my old habits clinging to me. I was really stressed this past week and ate at a fast food place and thought for some reason that I could eat my old meal. It turned out to be sooo not true and I felt sick after it. This is not the first time Ive done this kind of thing since surgery, but I seem not to be learning from the experience. So even if Ive been creating some really great new habits, my old ones are still hurting me. At 5 months out, I still have lots to learn about myself and my body. So even with all the weight loss, my journey isn't all that great since I know that if I keep doing this sh*t to myself, I am going to go back to my old weight after the honeymoon is over.

    1. Lynnlovesthebeach

      Lynnlovesthebeach

You have to make the decision whether you want to go back there or not. You know what got you to your previous weight and know those habits can destroy what you have worked so hard for to get where you are now. Sounds like you need to have a serious conversation with yourself and change your negative thoughts! If that doesn't work does your team have a therapist you can talk to so you can rid yourself of the self sabotage? Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. Good luck. This journey sure isn't easy but is so worth it!

  10. Just saw a YouTube vid about Beyonce's health routine to prep for Coachella: She was 175 lbs. I now know where I need to stay under... the Beyonce weight limit 😂

She must be solid muscle because she looks great at that weight!

I was watching that at work while taking a break and one of the younger girls thought it was a bunch of "older" men doing a parody of "boy bands from the old days"...her words not mine! I had a good time explaining to her the difference between NKOTB, INSYNC, 98 DEGREES, BOYS TO MEN etc! She had no clue who most of the groups are let alone the individual members!
