my personal little official thread
Just got done pre-op! My plastic surgeon is so thrilled with my weight loss and working out. He said it has made his job a lot easier. It is likely he won't need to suture my muscles very much because I have a strong core. He also said since I have virtually no fat on my abdomen, which is rare for a bypass patient, that it's doubtful I will need much, if any, lipo of my flanks and it should be a super easy recovery for me since it's basically ALL skin and nothing else. Having no fat makes the moving of your belly button a lot simpler and less prone to complication. I am stoookkkeeddd. I've lost 10lbs since I first consulted with him and he noticed immediately.

ASMBS Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Numbers Estimate for 2018
I had no clue sleeve was more popular than RNY. I hadn't even heard of sleeve prior to my first consult. "gastric bypass" seemed to be a common term.

scale recommendation
guys I highly recommend getting this scale. RENPHO. the statistics match PERFECTLY with the body composition analyzer at my surgeon's office that costs thousands of dollars. it was only like 30 bucks on Amazon. the trend charts are super cool to see, and helps you see where you need improvement (ex: my body water was low for a while and same with protein).

Easy Lunch Ideas
I swear this is not a paid review, but I eat the Bariatric Pal Lite Entrees a few times a week that you can buy off the store on this site. Super quick.

Brachioplasty (arm lift) - are you happy with the results?
My bariatric office didn't care because I exceeded their weight loss expectations by a lotttt; they said I would only get to 165 at best. The plastic surgeon also had no opinion. He said I can do it whenever I feel I am ready. My weight has been between 129 and 133 for 6-ish weeks now and my dietitian said if I lose more weight, I need to gain it back so if I go lower post-plastics, it won't really impact the plastics because I'm supposed to gain it back. If that made sense. I am one year post-op today. If I wanted insurance to pay for my tummy tuck, I would have to be 18 months post-op. I don't think they'd approve it anyway since I don't have rashes or anything so I'm just paying myself now. I'm so ready for this. I had a breast reduction in 2017 and I am SO GLAD I did because my boobs would be SO DROOPY after all this weight loss (they were a 48H and taken down to a 46D.... and are now a 36B). So even if I lose (or gain) a little more weight... I doubt it will have any real impact on my skin.

Hair loss
I had a lot of hair loss from 3 weeks out to about 7 months out or so. Then it regrew, but now it's falling out a little bit again. In the beginning it did thin out A LOT. I lost about 40%. But it came back. Now I just shed a bit more than usual, but clumps don't come out like they did and it doesn't look thin anymore.

Brachioplasty (arm lift) - are you happy with the results?
I have my arm lift in less than 3 weeks. I'm going to come up with some badass story about my scars. Scars don't bother me at all (better than saggy skin and stretch marks, imo), but I'm still going to tell people I escaped prison through barbed wire.

For Orthodox Jews
I am not Orthodox, but I always believed there was an exception to fasting holidays if you have a medical condition that requires you to eat/drink/take medications.

DOES POUCH SIZE MATTER?
My surgeon said the typical pouch is the size of a thumb, but he makes them the size of two thumbs together because he feels that the 'single thumb' size is too restrictive. *shrug*

my personal little official thread
I'm reading that the muscle repair can help with herniated discs and back pain by providing core stabilization and strength and better posture. That would be swell. LOL. I am so anxious for my pre-op Monday! SO many questions.

spine degeneration and herniation
TY. I've been in physical therapy for 3 weeks (3x a week) or so and it isn't doing anything. I also see an orthopedic massage therapist 2x a week. I am exasperated.

Lower body lift APPROVED!
I am having a TT w/ muscle repair and an arm lift!

Tattoo Time
I'd like to get SOMETHING. I just don't know what. I have 3 tattoos currently (formerly had 5, but had 2 removed) with 5 more planned after I finish my plastic surgeries, but those are unrelated to the weight loss surgery.

spine degeneration and herniation
so, totally different medical issue question here.. lol.. 1) has anyone here had a disc herniation and how long did it take to heal? i am going insane! it's been 4.5 weeks and totally stagnant with regards to improvement for the last 2.5 weeks. 2) does anyone here have disc degeneration and what do you take for pain since we can't have NSAIDs?? any OTC ANYTHING that provides relief? i can't keep chugging bottles of Tylenol (for the sake of my liver). icyhot and biofreeze help mildly. I have an appointment with my rheumatologist for issue #2, but he can't see me until December 6th. ;(

What's your reason for your obesity
I was 140lbs until age 19. I have had body dysmorphia since age 10 or so. I thought I was super fat so I had 12K in liposuction. After the lipo I still thought I was fat so I decided "screw it" and just started eating whatever I wanted. Thus developing a food addiction in addition to the dysmorphia. Reached my heaviest weight 10 years later, which is when I had surgery. I still have body dysmorphia and at 129lbs I still think I am gigantic. I just have to learn not to say "screw it" and start eating nonstop again... which fortunately I am still unable to do even if I wanted to because I get sick so easily now. Most days I look in the mirror and see someone who belongs in a mumu. But some days I see a stick figure. It is kinda' nutso.

Can’t eat
When my gallbladder went to **** earlier this year, the only signs I had was that I couldn't keep anything down, including water. Was just nauseous and vomiting everything back up.

Ok, 1 thing I am not so happy about 1 week post op...
How was the surgery!?

I went from a 46D to a 36B. I like it a lot better, though.

Vets - How often do you weigh yourself?
I weigh daily even though it DRIVES ME INSANE seeing weight fluctuations. My psychiatrist told me yesterday that since I have body dysmorphia I should cut back on weighing, but I am obsessive so... if you understand and accept that your weight may fluctuate, daily seems to be pretty common on here.

Scar Tape or Cream?
Actually going to order it now as a trial run on the "side boob" skin excisions before the "big day" coming up. See if it makes any noticeable difference with 3 weeks of use.... edit: unf. may not arrive until november 13th. ah well. still going to try it.
