    September bypass buddies??

Oh no! I haven’t hit a wall yet and I haven’t had to deal with nausea. I’m totally going to jinx myself but I’ve actually been on the up and up. Yesterday I walked half a mile and today I walked a mile. My tennis shoes finally fit comfortable and my sports bra doesn’t feel like it’s about to impale me.

    September bypass buddies??

Today is the first day I feel functioning. I took our golf cart down to the lake and am enjoying some tea and the views. Cold water isn’t killing me anymore and the pain in my stomach is only dull.

    September bypass buddies??

Literally every part of my body hurts. If it was just my stomach, I could take it. But it’s my back, legs, arms, neck, etc.

    September bypass buddies??

I’m coming up on 24 hours post op. Pain has been noticeable but I’ve had no problems with clear liquids. Walking like a champ - they told me to slow down and stop taking the long way.

    My surgery date is coming

Okay, so I really thought I wouldn't make it through the liquid diet. To be honest, the first 4 days were HELL! The hunger, cravings, and fatigue WAS REAL! I think I am finally in ketosis though (day 5) - no hunger, no cravings, increased energy, etc. (That or I am just delusional now.) My liquid diet consists of 5 protein shakes and "unlimited" clear liquids (broth, crystal light, sugar free popsicles, sugar-free powerade, etc.) Knowing me, I HAD to make a schedule so I would be able to pace myself and just tell myself "you can make it one more hour." 8:00 AM, Protein Shake 9:30, Jello 10:30, Protein Shake 12:00, 16 oz of some kind of clear liquid 1:00, Protein Shake 2:30, 8 oz of broth 3:30, Protein Shake 5:00, 16 oz of some kind of clear liquid 6:30, Protein Shake 8:00, 8 oz of Broth Of course I continuously drink water throughout the day. I am in bed by 9:00. Other than the occasional popsicle thrown in, I have been sticking to this schedule and it works. Lots of sleep has helped too - if you are asleep, you aren't hungry Just 8 more days to go for me (September 26th surgery).

Umm jury is out. I have a two week liquid diet. I wake up fine but by 2:30/3:00 I’m hungry.

What did you tell people at work?

I am aiming for two weeks only. I’ll be out under FMLA.

What did you tell people at work?

I’m a teacher so a my workplace naturally lends itself to a more open, family environment. I’ve told everyone. Plus, I’m having it done while school is going on so it would be weird for me to disappear and come back with a weight change. Some of my students even know.

    September bypass buddies??

Does the hunger from the pre-op diet ever get better? I’m one day in and I want to eat my arm and take all the naps.

    September bypass buddies??

Yes! I start it tomorrow. I had my pre admit testing at the hospital as well as the consult with the medical assistant to get shakes and vitamins. I also just found out it is clear liquid only 2 days before surgery. I’m prepared for the liquid diet just not this clear liquid part. I initially thought it was 1. The worst part? I’m a teacher and will be TEACHING during this time. Open house even falls during this time. EEEK!

    September bypass buddies??

I agree - I need some support from people in the same boat. I am terrified of anesthesia complications. I don't know why because I have had surgery before. I guess it is because this time around for surgery I am very very overweight which in turn leads to a chance for more complications. Other than that, I am fairly in good health for my weight.

    September bypass buddies??

I am having my gastric bypass on September 26th. My pre-op is September 12th and the liquid diet starts the next day. I am soooooo nervous - total control freak and being out on anesthesia freaks me out.
