So I am 41 years old,5’5, my highest weight is 231. I am currently 222.4. My surgery is scheduled for October 24th. As it gets closer I am very nervous. Questioning myself have I done everything possible to loose weight on my own. I gained most of my weight over the last 7 years. I did diets over the time loose 25 lbs but gain it right back. This happen repeatedly. I stopped taking birth control 2 years ago hoping to get pregnant. It never happened. I got my glucose checked Since Diabetes run in the family. My Ac1 was 6.8 the doctor put me on metformin said it could also work s a fertility. Next check up Ac1 7 and then went to 7.5. At that time my doctor retired and I saw a new doctor. She told me I need to stop worrying about having a baby and start worrying about diabetes. I was in tears. Just heartbreaking! So I continued to my nutrition classes required. My primary doctor doesn’t think I need the sleeve thinks I need a better control of nutrition and excercise. My gynecologist thinks it’s just harder to get pregnant at my age. The only one that has been positive is my weight loss doctor. He thinks at my beginning weight I should be at ideal weight in 6 months and can try to have a baby at that time. Just wondering if there is anyone with my weight and age that has become pregnant after sleeve?

I've had the same thought about Dr. Shaw Somers! I wish all doctors had his demeanor. I think he sincerely cares and understands his patients. There was a teaser on YouTube about a season 5 but that was 4 years ago.

I am not in the UK sorry I can't help there. But just a thought, you may want to change your user name from your email address to something else.
If I was in the UK I would want Dr Shaw Somers from the 'Fat Doctor'! Jokes aside, if only every doctor was as caring and compassionate as he.

I went to the er today.. they put an ace bandage on it, which I'm wearing now and said it might be a sprain.. no broken bones thankfully. She also said there were signs of degenerative disease from carrying all my weight but hopefully that will get better.. 11 1/2 hours till I'm in the hospital.. thanks all for the replies

Sounds like gout. It won't stop your surgery. I had an attack of gout and had surgery on my afflicted foot. They just said "it's not going to be a problem" and did the operation. You might go to a walk-in clinic or urgent care if they have one in your area and get it checked out. If it's gout, there is medicine that will immediately stop the attack.

Hi @bettie.blue it definitely gets better sweetie, I felt the same way in the hospital, when the nurse first asked me to walk after surgery I was thinking to my self “is she kidding” lol although everyone on here has repeatedly said they get you up to walk right away, but I wanted to get better so just focus on that getting better, as the days ho by you will feel better and better...I’m 5 weeks post op today and I feel really good and you will to. The reason I mentioned taking her to Anchorage Bariatrics is so they can figure out WHY she can't eat certain foods or get in enough. She may have internal problems that need endoscopy or other imaging to diagnose. She may be nutrient deficient in other ways than just Protein. They can help figure it out and help her get healthy enough to begin working on strength training. Nutrition has to come first, and if she's not getting the right stuff, having a doctor who knows how to help is the first step. They can also answer YOUR questions and concerns about her health. I wouldn't want my husband to worry about me; I'd keep him involved and listen to his concerns and opinions.

Hi. If she has stopped can you get her to try to return to Protein Drinks and bars? It should help add some muscle building calories back in quickly and begin to weight train, even just lightweight stuff. Perhaps it is time to get a a second opinion. But the challenge will be to get your wife to agree, Good luck.

Wow, that sounds pretty rough. There are two bariatric doctors in Anchorage - Dr. Sean Lee and Dr. Justin Clark at Anchorage Bariatrics. I know them; they are the doctors that got me this far in my journey. Dr. Lee did my surgery. I can't see them ignoring her situation. Call their office and get her in to see them; they will figure out what's going on. Best wishes.

Newbie here! Joined the forum just to share my surgery date of October 9th. Excited to be in the October class with everyone! Should definitely keep in touch with each other on progress.
I am having the sleeve done at Wake Forest, in NC with Dr. Fernandez. I am definitely on the bigger scale for a sleeve patience (500lb), but I'm otherwise healthy so I'm hoping that it won't matter long term. Thanks for all the positive comments!

I can see already that you are going to be my go-to person. Your words of advice are going to be of great value to me. I have a little over 3 weeks till my surgery. My bad habits are inhaling my food after two bites and large portions. So, to hear you tell me to start practicing the small bites and thirty chews is just what I need to hear. If you are three weeks post op, then you will be 6-7 weeks ahead of me. I’m going to follow your path. Thank you for helping to pave my way to better health.

Start learning to separate your eating drinking by a half hour. Start learning to sip, no more chugging, no,lmore bolting that stuff down. Start eating slower, after surgery you want to chew into very smooth consistency. Traditionally they say applesauce, I personally say Apple Butter. May have to be 20-30,times each. Sounds rough, well, your new sleeve,on pounch is very tender and crabby at first. This is my,10th day, post, thought i,had this thing licked? Last, night my pouch and. I had a disaggreement, Precious Puch won that argument. This morning I'm sucking,on a suger free popsicle, wondering if we are still in a state of truce.
I am already on Stage 3, rare, but some doctors move THAT fast. Thursday diet and liquids went well, so I got, brave, wanted to venture to something else. Bad idea, right now I'm still figuring things after all. But,i am seeing positive body changes all ready. They are small, but they make me continue.
Found out I can and will do this. And in a month you will be where I am encouraging the November chicks and dudes. Stay strong it is beautiful, being where I am.

@br3n I work in at an office job as well. Doctors told me at least 2 weeks, possibly longer, so I'm trying to make a plan for 4. Maybe I'll be stir crazy by 5 days! On the other had, having 4 weeks off doesn't sound like a bad thing either :-)
In terms of preparation I'm walking 1/2 hour almost ever day. There are still some bad habits to eliminate, but I've got a time frame for those, too.
I got my first bad reaction to the surgery from my father-in-law. Trying to let is slide but the judgementalism is hard.

Was sleeved in July, but just wanted to tell you all that you got this. It's going to be rough at first but when those times come just remember that the recovery process is only temporary and when you're back on your feet you will be so happy you did this.
