My Boy friend and I are doing a couples sleeve together on December 12th In Tiajauna Mexico we are also self pay. I honestly think I am dreading the pre op diet more than anything....but the thought of being slimmer and healthier this time next year I know will make it all worth it. Best wishes to you all.

I'm 46 but do not tell my grand babies they all think I'm 29 yes every year. My surgery date is dec 12th my boyfriend and I are doing a "couples" Sleeve surgery on the same day. I enjoy reading everyones stories, advice and support and I hope to do the same for someone else when it's my turn to tell it.
46 years and not much scares me but with 4 months til Surgery day I have very high anxiety. I'm a care giver and I wonder will I try to care more for him than I do myself? There has to be a time when we put ourselves first. Deep breath....I got this. To Heathier lifestyles.

    My two cents is...
1 I would drive but that’s just me. If you connect Just ask flight attendant where to go they will assist you and if you don’t feel well tell them you need medical asst to the connecting flight
    2. Get some Xanax from your doctor so you aren’t stressed lol. Also you can get Xanax in Mexico at their pharmacy it does cost like 20 for the prescription plus meds but still only like 30
3 Ariel Ortiz at OCC sent a car to pick me up. Hopefully your surgeon arranges that. Bring tip money for your bags but you have to wheel them through us customs coming back
4 I’m east coast so I got a hotel in San Diego for extra night with airport shuttle it gave me an extra night and ability to do early flight without stressing the time to get to airport and through border or being tired when I arrived home
5 I did first class on the way back. I could have gone either way but for me it was worth it. I didn’t want the drama of rude ppl with my size or being uncomfortable on the way back. It’s on my credit card and I’m still paying it off but still don’t regret that purchase . I told myself i would never be tight in a airline seat again so this was my gift to myself...
6 I brought way too much and regretted it as us border pack light!!
7 don’t stress. I thought I would feel way worse than I did. I heard the horror stories but honestly all of it was easy least! I drove myself back on a 2 hour rush hour work week with no problem. My recovery was not bad at all. My flight and experience was shockingly easy.
8 not sure who is doing your surgery but if it’s OCC they will take good care of you. They even took me to my San Diego hotel
This was the best decision of my life I’m two mos out I used to take elevator up one flight of stairs now I’m on every Fitbit challenge winning, running up stairs, I’m off three medications, no more CPAP for me and I’ve lost 58 lbs since surgery and 82 with pre op and I’m 46. I have more to go but I got my groove back for sure. Worth every penny if for nothing else but to get extra pep in my step
i wanted to add that I walked all over San Diego I loved that city and so glad I had time to finally see Pacific Ocean. I walked and walked which helped to get rid of gas pains so I felt better on flight. I walked so much I had to get Uber back to hotel lol Also a girl with our group paid for three extra days at hotel in mexico it was only 99 per night and gave her more time to recover and she did tours. She loved it. Marriott in Tijuana nice hotel if they put you there

I honestly had no pain from my surgery. I had laparoscopic surgery, so my incisions were only about an inch long. There were 4 of them and they were held together with "glue" and had a piece of tape over each. The only pain I had was some gas pain, up in my left armpit. As long as I didn't move a certain way, I was fine. It dissipated after a few hours.

I've been playing with recipes in anticipation of my surgery in December...today I made carrot curry Soup and OMGoodness it was yummy. It was a bag of baby carrots and one small onion saute in olive oil and a bit of butter for 5 minutes then add 3 cups of chicken broth 1 table spoon of curry and a bit of Cheyenne (to taste) salt and Pepper to taste and 1/2 cup of red pepper simmer for 15 minutes or until carrots are extremely soft then take off heat and put in blender mix up pureed and enjoy. It was yummy.

My surgery will be performed today. I arrived in Tijuana Mexico last night with no problems. I was picked up at San Diego airport by a driver(Rene) from BariatricPal, he was professional and kind. He drove me to my hotel, waited while I checked in, and showed me to my room. Since I'm traveling alone, this was much appreciated. The hotel is called the Real Inn, it's nice, clean and the beds are super cozy. I'm now just waiting for 9:30 to roll around so I can be transported to the hospital for the sleeve procedure. I will check back in to update my experience. I know when researching this it helped to hear from others experiences so hopefully, this will help someone out there.
The most challenging part was traveling from the east to west coast on the pre-op diet. I packed dried chicken stock to mix with hot Water on the plane. There was nothing much else to eat on the clear liquid diet while traveling. The sugar-free Jello goes straight through me and the sugar-free popsicles would melt while traveling. I wish I bought more sugar-free drinks at the airport to bring to the hotel room last night because I was really thirsty. Woke up starving and definitely dehydrated from my travels yesterday. I'm looking forward to an IV drip of fluids at this point.
I will post my experiences throughout my stay here in Tijuana Mexico.

Dr. Illan is an excellent choice. Inexpensive, but the best part is you will be completely taken care of. I went with him, because I couldn't find any past patients that had experienced major complications. It was a great decision. I spent two nights in the hospital, and 1 night in a nice hotel along with a companion. All was included. I was even visited at the hotel by a doctor the night before I left home. It was safe, and honestly I have never received better care in the states. I didn't ever have to ask for pain killers, nausea medicines or anything else, because the nurses were in my room to add the medications to my IV every few hours. I would go back in a heartbeat if I needed to. Do your due diligence, but just know you will definitely be in great hands if you go with Dr. Illan.

I have no desire to die during this procedure. Dr. Illian has zero deaths and a low complication rate thats all I need to know.

    Hi All,
I am 4 days post op and I am finally feeling like I am not going to die. I have turned a corner and the pain is finally a bit more bearable. It was a hard road but I am doing it. I am about 18-20 pounds down from the beginning of preop. this is about 2 1/2 weeks. Thank you for getting me through. Not easy but glad it is done.

Talk with your surgeon/nutrition and ask if there is anything you can add to help you out. Everyone's pre-op diet is so drastically different that it's hard to find a true reason for any one of them. I was allowed celery, SF Jello and watermelon on my pre-op. See if your surgeon/nutritionist will approve the celery, it's a "negative calorie food" so it's not going to add anything calorie wise, but the Fiber will help keep you feeling full longer.

I didn’t want to jinx myself by getting anything too small. The smallest I’ve been as an adult is a size 16, so the thought of buying anything smaller than that is crazy town to me!

I did buy one cute shirt at a consignment store that is a little too small at the moment. I also picked up a couple blouses at Target that ended up being a size too small, but I didn’t return them, because I know they will fit soon.

I’m trying to acquire things as needed. Today I bought three new bras, because they were on sale at LB for $20 and well- I didn’t have any real bras left that fit (I’ve got some lounge ones, but they don’t lift things much.. 😂). I’ve got picked up one pair of jeans in my current size.

I’m sure once I stop losing my shopping will be out of control! But in the meantime- I’m trying to be financially conservative and make things last a few sizes, not over shop, and looks for deals.
