Any May Bandsters?
Hi May Flower....you have done fantastic! High five to you! I am on the 6th day of my protein shake diet and have droped about 8 lbs so far. I was told that I needed to shrink my liver too. It was so hard yesterday at work because there was a Cinco De Mayo potluck with all my favorite foods. The only thing that got me through it was I ate a spoon of hot sauce and that gave me a little taste and also killed the craving. Hey, whatever works. I also keep telling myself that someday I will be able to partake but just in smaller portions. That is a great feeling to know that I will be in control for once in my life. My LB is May 12th. WOO HOO. Becky

Pre Op Liquid Diet ? Fifth Day
I'm on day 3 of my liquid protein diet and I am having trouble getting in all the water as well. The other thing is that all the drinks I have tried are way too sweet. I have been putting unflavored protein powderin my broth for a change. Last night I ate a spoon of hot sauce. I am not a sweet person, I crave salty and spicey. But I do have to admit that this is getting easier every day. I am really not too hungry just miss chewing sometimes.

Any May Bandsters?
Thanks Bob, but where do you find 100% egg white powder? Is that as good as whey protein? I think the commercial poswder drinks are way too sweet for my taste so this might work out better for me. I also have a fear of losing my hair which is already very thin and fine. Last night I was craving something salty so I took a sip from the pickle jar....I'm deperate! Becky

Any May Bandsters?
Hi, I am being banded on May 12th and I am very excited. I am only nervous about getting the anesthesiologist I requested. Sometimes even though you request someone you don't get your request. I know my surgeon is excellent I just want an excellent anesthesiologist as well.

Any May Bandsters?
Hi Bob, I am on day 3 of my protein fast and it is getting easier. I am trying different protein powders to find the one I like the best. Do you have any recommendations. I get sick of the sweetness so I have been having some ff chicken broth with added no flavor protein powder just for a variety.

Any May Bandsters?
Hello, Got to get healthy! Welcome to the May banders. My surgery is May 12th. My doc has a pretty extensive pre op program to teach us how to do the work before surgery. We have to go on a protein shake diet for 10 days before surgery. They told us that it helps the dr if we can help make our internal organs a little smaller before hand. It also prepares us for how we will be eating after surgery for the first 7-10 days. I don't think it is so much how much you loose just that you can lose a little and not go hog wild eating just because you are having surgery. I did a little of that before I started my fast. I kind of said good bye to pizza and ice cream. LOL I know that eventually I will be able to have some of my old foods back but in very small amounts and just for special occasions. Since our stomachs will be very small we need to concentrate on getting good protein and healthy veggies. Buy yourself some good protein powder that has at least 20 gms of protein per scoop and try substituting a meal or two with thoes. Others are saying that they can have cottage cheese and lowfat yogurt and lean chicken. Cruise around the website and you will get all kinds of helpful advise. Good luck and best wishes to you. Becky

coffee and pre-op diet?
I just started my preop diet yesterday. I can have protein drinks to equal 80 gms per day, water in between, sf jello, broth. sf popsicles, herbal tea, and very limited decaf coffee. I will have to wean myself off coffee. I had half a cup with a little skim milk yesterday. I'll see how today goes. i am worried about getting a headache at work today. This is not easy but I heard it gets easier after the 3rd day. I had to leave the house and take a walk while my husband ate dinner. He was so sweet that he said he would eat away from home, but I don't want him to do that. I have got to live in the real world. It will be very hard at work because of the constant potlucks and food sitting around all day. I just keep telling myself that this is going to be worth it when I can buy pretty clothes in regular sizes and I feel more energetic. Best wishes to all. My date is May 12!! Becky

Any May Bandsters?
Hi Allison, I live in Chico Calif and have worked in the local hospital for many years. I took a little time off and did travel nursing and just fell in love with Cape Cod. I think I left a little piece of my heart there. I've been to both Nantucket and Martha's Vinyard and enjoyed both of them very much. There is a great book called Ahabs Daughter that takes place on Nantucket in the 1800's which if fun to read. I couldn't find that May thread you were talking about. I am still kind of new to the website and don't know my way around it too well. But lets keep in touch since our surgeries are so close. Well, I am off to work. Bye, Becky

Any May Bandsters?
Hi Allison, My surgery date is May 12th and I start my preop diet May 2nd. I am very excited about my surgery. Until I found this website I was very nervous and doubtful, but after connecting with the folks here I am so uplifted and ready to do this. I also wanted to tell you that I love the area where you live. I am an RN and did some travel nursing in Cape Cod in the fall of 2002. I still have wonder memories of the time I spent there. I worked in surgery at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyanis and I lived in Hyanis Port. I always had 3 day weekends so I went all over New England. I went back in 2005 and stayed on Nantucket for a week and then revisted some of the places I loved. I loved Boston for all the culture and history. Well, good luck on your journey. Becky

Lap Band Book
Hi Katie, I ordered mine on Amazon the other day and it should arrive in a couple of days. Thanks for the info. I am quite a reader and this will help me while I wait for my surgery date which is May 12th. I noticed Amazon had several books about Lap Band and some cook books too. That is good to know. Thanks again, Becky

Molly, can you help me? I know this sounds silly but I found the weight tracker site and made myself a ticker but now I don't know how to move it to this site. It says to cut and paste but I am not able to do that. HELP! Becky

Count down to Surgery
Hi Wheezie, my surgery date is May 12th so we are going to be doing this at the same time. My friend had hers Friday and she is doing very well. She says the main thing is to get up and start walking as soon as possible to move that gas around. She only had pain around one of her port sites, the one where they insert the band. She is planning on being back to work Tues. She is much younger than I am so I am planning on staying off for a full week. I am excited and can't wait for the day of surgery. There have been so many positive feedbacks from the folks on this site. These people will be a major support for me as the days go on. Their willingness to share and encourage me has been just a wonderful experience. I think the nicest people are having Lap Band surgery! LOL Becky

New to this..and getting all the negative remarks
That's a tough one. It sounds like you are ready to go and he is stalling for whatever reason. It would be good if he could open up about it. Maybe this isn't the right time for him. You are going to have to stick to your plans with or without him. Once he sees how well you are doing maybe he will choose to go through with it. Keep connected to the great people on this website. Does your Bariatric program have a support group you can attend? Do you have someone close to you that can be your support buddy until your husband works out his issues? Good luck.

Just Banded
I am going to take a week off and if I need more I am sure my doctor will give me more days off. I hope I can tolerate it. I may just have to work 4-6 hrs instead of 8. We'll see how it goes.

food lover, scared of failure

food lover, scared of failure
That is good to know that I will still be able to have an occasional treat without feeling that I have to eat the whole thing. I know it will be awhile before i will be able to eat pizza but it is nice to know that it is not totally off limits. I want to live in the real world without restictions or feeling deprived. It will be so nice to have my little tool that will help me feel full. I don't have that now. My mother put me on my first diet at 12 yrs and I have spent my whole life sneaking food and eating in private. My whole relationship with food became so sick from that time on. I just want some control back. I love your attitude about food and lifestyle. You seem like you are balanced and healthy......GOOD FOR YOU! And thanks for the support and inspiration. Becky
