Hi Russ, I definitely feel like I have something in my throat. No pain at all anymore since yesterday which is good. I've not started eating any purees or solids at all, except that Soup that was just too many ingredients I think. I'm sticking to straight broth for the next few weeks. My biggest worry is that it's liquids that don't feel like they are going down.

Well, it seemed to happen to me after I pushed the limit of what my stomach could hold. Have you noticed anything similar?

  2. After I started on solid foods again, for a while it felt like I had a lump at the bottom of my throat around the larynx. Seemed to happen after I ate. I'd have it for several days, and it'd go. Still happens every once in a while (including right now). Not sure what causes it. Sounds similar to what you've got but without the pain.

Just outed myself at a newer job. 😮

Had surgey 5 months ago and hadn't told anyone at my new job yet. I don't know them and don't want to spend my life talking about it. Already got sh#t for saying this but, I am more than just a WLS patient.

THEN . . . . someone I work with is having surgery in 2 weeks and is so scared she is thinking about canceling. Poor thing is terrified and alone . . . .. Really felt like it was my duty to tell her I had it too and she will be alright.

Guess I have another surgery buddy. Not sure how others at work will react. I don't care that it is personal, just don't want it to define me too much, especially to a bunch of strangers.

That's awesome that you had the opportunity to do that, though.

  4. The pain from the gas was the worst for me. Inflated abdominal cavity, made me feel bloated for a week plus after. Trying to breathe or laugh immediately afterwards was very uncomfortable. The breathing exercises helped.

The pain from the incisions, the worst of that was over in a few days for me. My abs were very sore for a few weeks, but as long as I didn't try to move my abs they were okay.

I do shakes twice a day. I'm thinking of ordering some bariatric Soups to mix it up because just the shakes is so boring and simple broth is flavorless and depressing. Nice pun lol. 2 more weeks of this. Never in my life has pureed scrambled eggs sounded appetizing until now. I can't wait to have texture back in my life.

I had a routine, but I tend to eat food on a routine anyways (always order the same thing at a given restaurant). Two shakes broken into two parts each, one bowl of Soup broken in two parts. Six mini meals. I put cumin in the soup, gave it a little more flavor. Three weeks of it...was still miserable. The popsicles broke it up a little.

  6. Nerves are normal. Second thoughts and cold feet are normal. Focus on what you will be able to do with your new life. What kinds of things does your weight hold you back from? That's what I thought about. I even had second thoughts when they put me on the table. When the anesthesiologist said "Okay, I'm turning on the gas now," I started to think "Wow, I didn't even have time to zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz." Then it was done.

My Dr doesn’t require the liquid fast prior to surgery.... so what do you eat before surgery?? I am clueless and I see the Np a week from wed (a week before surgery) so I guess we will go over it then??

I drank two Protein Shakes a day plus a small meal of 4-6 ounces of lean Protein (chicken, turkey, fish) and veggies. I did that for three and a half weeks before surgery. I can't remember if I did all-liquid two days before the surgery, but the DAY before the surgery they wanted me to fast completely of anything but fluids. (I screwed up and drank a shake by accident. Luckily the two bottles of magnesium citrate took care of that...)

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this, and I'm feeling terribly vulnerable...but I'm officially 4 weeks post op and down 25lbs. Until just now when I made this collaboration, I wasn't sure where the pounds came from. I can sortof see it in some areas...what do you guys think?

    Hi Sleeve Family

I'm fairly new on here - but so happy to be here in a community that I can share with and learn from.

My surgery is scheduled for 9/27 - in two weeks! I'm excited, nervous and a little scared. I started my 14 days liquid diet yesterday and it was ROUGH. My mind is playing tricks on me - that I'm HUNGRY the entire day. It's crazy, because I could go an entire day and not feel hungry until late in the evening - but yesterday morning I woke up - I actually smelled food cooking in my house (my hubby can't cook to save his life - so it was all in my mind) lol.

Anyone has any recommendation for high Protein Shakes? I bought the one from my surgeon's office and it's like drinking diluted milk Water. Just to drink 6oz of it, took me about 10mins, because I felt like I was going to throw up. I use to drink Glucerna Hunger Smart as part of my pre-diabetes 2 plan and those are yummy - but I can't drink those now - because of the high carb and fat content and getting my liver down/clean. My surgeon and nutritionist had Premier Protein, Slim Fast High Protein and Premier Protein Clear as alternatives. Anyone here tried any of these in their pre-op liquid diet regime?

Thanks in advance for your feedback/guidance.

I just stuck to using the mix in skim milk. Wasn't pleasant, but it got me through. Pre-op, I tended to pound them. Drain the whole thing in 2-3 quaffs, then be about my business. First 2-3 days were the worst. Light-headed, lack of energy. It got better after that as my body adjusted to the lack of calories and sugar.

I’m a teacher so a my workplace naturally lends itself to a more open, family environment. I’ve told everyone. Plus, I’m having it done while school is going on so it would be weird for me to disappear and come back with a weight change. Some of my students even know.

Curious. How long are you going to be taking off for recovery?

I have Lupus and it triggered something in my small intestine. To cause me constant contracting pains. I felt like I was in labor 24/7 and drinking fluids only intensified it. I then became sooooo... Dehydrated. I had to wait for it to just pass. The (flare of Lupus) that is. In meantime... I had to be fed nutrition through tube.
Now... I do have cravings. But, I don't feed into them. I started off at 211pounds. No currently 180lbs. I skip day's of eating because of nausea..

That sounds rough. I'm sorry to hear all of that. Did they know that Lupus could cause those kinds of complications?
