    cannot get any surgery

Not sure if you have been denied or if this is a financial issue for you. We understand how hard it is to lose weight.

Will a super restrictive diet be long term sustainable for you? Bariatric patients eat 800-900 calories in the first months. Can you get a referral to see a dietician to help you find a food plan?

A food log app is valuable and eye opening. It will calculate and set a calorie, carb, Protein, and fat goals. Hitting these macros will put your body in weight loss mode.

    Many apps out there:

    Loseit

    my fitness pal

    I wish you the best.

So I'm 9 weeks post-op today and in my second stall (ugh) and we had a work lunch today. I made the conscious decision to have a sourdough roll. A large one. First of all, I couldn't eat my salmon salad after that because I was full (duh) and second, I'm EXHAUSTED. I'm fighting sleep at my desk right now. I've tried bread one other time since my surgery and had the same reaction.

Apparently, after almost 3 months on a very low carb/no refined carbs diet, my body can't handle processing that crap anymore. It's a nice thing, but I basically made the conscious decision to torture myself. Lesson learned. bread is a no for me unless I want to use it as a sleep aid! Does anyone else react the same way to refined carbs/bread?

I was Low carb in weight loss mode. Bread. ric, and e Pasta were excluded from my diet. As I got close to gaol, whole wheat, brown rice and sweet potato were added by my dietician. This was to slow/stop my weight loss. First year bread would fill me up and I had no room for other foods. Years out, bread is not a big problem for me to eat. I have to keep it in moderation.

I know what it is but what i'm experiencing, bulimia, is the closest thing to the description.

You will need to be diagnosed as Bulimic by a mental health professional. It's not in your GI surgeon's field to diagnose an eating disorder.

Either way, This is about your health. It wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion to see if there is a medical reason or have a mental health specialist diagnose an eating disorder.

Wish you the best in resolving this

Has anyone else developed bulimia after the bypass? I throw up almost every meal and have for the past 7 months. I've seen a GI dr and he couldn't find anything wrong with me so he suggested I see a therapist.

    Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia nervosa is a serious disorder that involves a recurring pattern of binge eating followed by dangerous compensatory behaviors in an effort to counteract or “undo” the calories consumed during the binge. People with bulimia often feel trapped in this cycle of dysregulated eating, and there is a risk for major medical consequences associated with bulimic behaviors. Research has provided varying results but conservative estimates regarding bulimia indicate that about 1.5% of women and .5% of men will have bulimia at some point in their lifetime. In certain populations, prevalence rates are much higher, such as on college campuses where up to 20% of college-age females endorse symptoms of bulimia.

Diagnostic criteria for Bulimia Nervosa (from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-V)

    1. Recurrent episodes of binge eating
    2. Recurrent inappropriate compensatory behaviors (such as self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives, fasting, or excessive exercise) in order to prevent weight gain
    3. The binge eating and inappropriate compensatory behaviors both occur, on average, at least 1x/week for 3 months.
    4. Self-evaluation is unduly influenced by body shape and weight.
    5. The disturbance does not occur exclusively during episodes of anorexia nervosa

I used to live off of Fage 0% flavored with Torani sugar free syrups. Now I don't even bother flavoring it, just eat it plain. But that takes some getting used to really.

    Hi everyone!

I'm brand new, and I just had my surgery last week. I'm on the full liquid diet, which includes yogurt.

I am having a really hard time finding a low fat yogurt with artificial sweeteners. I tried the Oikos Triple Zero, and even though I could tolerate it pre-op, it makes me extremely nauseous now.

Does anyone have any recommendations of yogurt brands or styles? All of the Greek yogurt brands I have found seem to have like 6-7 grams of sugar, which I believe it too much, and haven't found any that are artificially sweetened (aside from Triple Zero).

    Thanks!

Surgery last week you are still healing. Its finding what your stomach can tolerate. How are you doing with the other items you can have?

@BigVifferGets to the point of food as fuel. Plain yogurt....You are hard core.

I'm getting very scared reading through posts about plain Water. I do NOT like additives like Mio and Crystal Light and I cannot imagine never being able to just drink Water plain. It seems that a lot of people struggle, not just in the beginning but long term! I am freaking out at the thought of always having to add something special to my water. Is it really that bad?

It's not that people can " never" drink plain water again. It's a taste preference. In the scheme of things this is not a big struggle.

Loved Mr. Charleston in the 6 years we lived in Vegas....such an amazing respite from the summer heat and able to experience snow in the winter.

Congrats on your husband's retirement, mine is already there and I am thinking I might be too since we pay off EVERYTHING (including our home) in April, We are shopping for 5th wheel toy haulers so we can go places with the dog and the motorcycle and spend a couple of years seeing the country. Sad to me that I am likely done working since I love my job but there is definitely more to life and with my husband 6 years older we need to take advantage of being healthy and active while we can.

    Amen!

I was able to step away from work and take on the grand kids and a partime job. I'm still adjusting to the life change. (Grand kids are sleeping so here I am on BP) No guarantee on how much time we have to live. I am making peace with my life, resolving relationships and finding my happiness.

Honestly, I was not living my best life pre surgery. Pretty amazing to have myself back.

Hope you heal quickly from your gallbladder surgery. Stalls happen.Hang in there and keep doing what you're doing.😊 Rest up! Get back to us when you can.

Struggling to find things not to like about RR and TCA wardrobe? I try to dress in some similarly figure outlining clothes all the time. And take not-so-secret vain pleasure doing it. Even though I know I will never look "hot". LOL. I'm ok with that. I at least want to feel "not dowdy" any more.

You have a great sense of style. You know what is flattering your figure. No frumpiness allowed.😜

Ok, now I need to watch TCA for some wardrobe inspiration.

Same here, mostly new audiences for my new wardrobe, and a mix of seeing people that knew me before WLS or have never met before. Definitely get a thrill every time I put on an outfit that makes me feel thin and sexy.

I used Black Friday, yber MonCday et al and hitting goal as an excuse to rebuild the wardrobe. Good thing I didn't give myself a budget, I would have blown it.

I have this weird, vengeful satisfaction around the fact that I got all my promotions and kudos at my company while hovering around 300lbs. It’s part of what’s made my weight loss transition different this time - it feels like rather than changing my body to society’s expectations so I can progress at work, I got there by merit alone and can now do whatever the hell I want, which happens to be dressing and behaving like Rene Russo out of The Thomas Crown Affair.

I also think that’s why I haven’t hit a dieting slump yet - I’ve been less focused on the numbers on the scale or tracked food and far more focused on what sorts of clothes I can buy, what sort of shoes I can wear, how I impact a boardroom when I walk in. I get a new audience for that stuff every time, so the thrill isn’t wearing off. food has been relegated to such a bottom-tier priority that I’m still using it as a fuel source rather than struggling with it (don’t worry, I’m sure that will roar back at some point, especially if I hit a depressive lull)

Come back to me in 3 months when the new apartment has settled in, the clothing budget has run out and the focus on food reasserts itself.

My goal gift was a new closet. Painted it and hung a beautiful chandelier. My addiction took over my closet. I donated many things and invested in my capsule wardrobe.

    Yes, to all of this.

Professionally I think I'm mostly able to cover my flaws with compression panties, fitted pants, and wrapped or ruched dresses. The tough one is my arms and short sleeves, and of course my neck. It's just my own vanity that makes me want to wear sheath and body con style dresses!

Losing the weight, and getting ps will undoubtedly help my career. Within my current company the effect will be limited, as the ladder is out of rungs. But it will give me more options (and better pay!) if I decide to go elsewhere. In some ways that seems unfair. But the reality is, I'm the face of my company to many people. Why wouldn't a company want someone healthy and attractive (as well as competent) to represent them?

Body lift, Tummy Tuck, neck, arms and legs. Would be wonderful. I'm envious.

Companies value healthy and attractive to represent them. I was promoted over very qualified and senior staff. Later I was told the reason why. It was to represent the company but, also to manipulate men that we were doing business with. It was not such a compliment to hear from staff that the only reason I was promoted was because I had big boobs.

I didn’t know I have scoliosis until the barium swallow for VSG, at which point the nurses went “oooooh” audibly from the next room. Not even mild, MODERATE scoliosis, it’s incredibly visible on x-ray. And the more I lose, the more I totally notice that my torso is shifted to the left above my pelvis. It’s very weird.

    So glad you posted this.

I was never diagnosed with scoliosis as a child. My back started bothering me after weight loss. I went to see a chiropractor and my xrays shocked me. Scoliosis. Apparently, I have lived with this for many years. All I can do is laugh. I have a hip higher than the other. Spine is an s shape. Left scapula protrudes.

I know this is the holidays and all which presents a unique set of challenges for us, but beyond that...if there is a "beyond" for that. ;)

Do any of you Sophomores find yourself losing focus or struggling to retain the initial thrill of the post weight loss lifestyle? Are you starting to "live again," maybe go out, indulge in not-so-therapeutic activities that keep you from maximizing weight loss for the month?

Are you still actively in the losing phase or are you somewhere between your first goal and final goal?

Just curious about the things you do to keep the spice alive and momentum up! Cuz you know...diet fatigue happens! :D

When I got close to goal, I was not working as hard for the weight loss. I always failed at maintaining. I had some fear to work on. The last ten pounds took the longest time for me to lose.

Diet fatigue still happens when you are maintaining. At this moment I'm not feeling the spice or momentum.

    1. Challenge Starting weight: 133
    2. Current weight: 138. Four pounds up from last check in.
    3. Maintaining:
    4. Fitness/exercise goal: Changing gyms in the new year. Also changing my workouts up.
    5. Total weight loss at the end of challenge: (Post January 1st 2019):

Check in: This is the time of year I start justifying food choices. . Each weekend I'm telling myself I'll get back on track and then blow it and eat unhealthy. It's a old crappy behavior that sets me back and has never served me well. I can eat like I never had surgery. It's a reminder of how easy it is to gain and how slow the weight comes off years out.

I'm maintaining and the gain is not out of control. I will get it back down. I am I feeling sluggish, have a headache, and craving sugar/carbs. I wanted to stay on track to rock a new years dress. I have 15 days to shake off this gain. Ugh what was I thinking.😠
