  1. Thank you so much for coming back here and giving those of us who are not as far out this encouragement, it makes me want to keep on, keepin on. I have incorporated an aggressive exercise schedule into my routine and I have yet to have a stall since doing so. Also, I only weigh myself about once every 2 weeks, which also helps, I think. Again, your words of encouragement are appreciated and not lost on us, congratulations on the success!!!

    The WORST Loser

So, in addition to what everyone else recommended, it's not just the tracking that is important, which it is, but it's WHAT you're putting in your stomach. Calorie-rich foods can ruin everything if you're not careful. If you didn't spend any time changing your eating habits before the surgery, the whole thing won't do you any good if you didn't change the type of food you're eating. Bottom line, get rid of processed foods, high-fat foods and carbs and replace with lean proteins, veggies, fruit and a crap-ton of water. You can do this!
  3. Yikes, I can only imagine how that felt
  4. Good Day folks, Yesterday afternoon I had half a handful of cocoa roasted almonds as a snack. Normally, no issue eating these, but after I did so in a hurry while rushing out the door, I've had this "stuck" feeling in my stomach/esophagus ever since. I had dinner normally and I drank a ton of water, but yet this morning, the feeling still persists. I know most of you are not medical professionals but thought I'd reach out to someone who may have had a similar experience going through the same process. If it persists, I'll call the doctor, but it's annoying as hell. Think I scratched my esophagus or something? Thanks
  5. Quick update, my stubbornness prevailed and things got better this past weekend without calling the Dr or going to the urgent care. I'm convinced it was a scratch inside my esophagus because normal food started going through with no issues by Sunday, but I then ate some wasabi and it burned like hell when it hit that spot. Just needs some time to get fully better but all good here now.

This looks friggin great. I may have to try this out.
  8. Funny, my wife said the same thing. I'm stubborn like that... lol
  9. It's been almost 48 hours now with this "stuck" feeling in my esophagus or stomach, not sure where. It doesn't feel like burning like re-flux does, it's like something is lodged like when you accidentally swallow an ice cube and you're waiting for it to melt in your throat, but this isn't melting or going away. I've had three solid meals since this started and I've decided that I'm going to have a couple days of just liquids starting this morning to see if that gets me in a better place before I call the surgeon on Monday. It's not painful, nor am I bringing anything back up, it's just super annoying and makes my diaphragm make a loud hiccup type of sound when I drink or eat. I did well this morning with a protein shake and I didn't hiccup, so it's a start. This is one of the strangest things I've ever experienced with my health, just thought I would share to see if anyone else has had this. My fear is that the almonds lodged themselves where the surgery took place on my stomach, but of course that's my anxiety probably over-exaggerating things.

How active are you in regards to walking or exercise?
  11. Great Job, that's quite an accomplishment! 👍
  12. Thanks everyone, that's what I was thinking as well. Appreciate the responses very much!
  13. I am looking for guidance on the best workout routine with my busy schedule now that school is back in session for my kids and I am also going back to school at night to get my degree and I work 50 hours a week. I have equipment in my home for both cardio (bike and elliptical) and weight training (bowflex), but I'm not sure the best frequency for doing both independently and/or simultaneously. Right now, I've been doing the cardio every day and then every 2nd or 3rd day I am using the bowflex for strength training. I am 5 months post-op and I have lost a total of 100 lbs since September of 2018. Thoughts?

    Cardio vs Weight Training Regiment

thanks so much, this helps a ton
  15. Congrats on breaking through the plateau. I'm also noticing that its getting harder to lose quickly. However, I feel like it could be my fault, for the most part in some cases, incidentally.
  16. Post-Vacation Status Update:  Back to work now that my vacation is over.  Somehow, I managed to not gain any weight over the last 14 days that I've been doing the all-inclusive thing on vacation.  I drank plenty and I skipped my protein shake regiment as well due to a lack of easy to attain shakes in the Caribbean.  The good thing is that about 10 out of the 14 days I did my elliptical workout in their fitness center.  I did still manage to avoid complex carbs, just had a bunch of simple ones in the "drinks of the day" cocktails.  I think this can count as a "proud" moment.  I truly thought i was going to gain weight after coming back.  I didn't weigh myself until this morning.

  17. Yesterday I "officially" eclipsed the 100 lb mark.  I'm sure if you're in any other country than the US, the 45.3 kg mark doesn't sound as much of a milestone, but it's very cathartic for me to post that I hit it.

I recently read back through both my BP status updates and my private journal and hitting this milestone makes all the things I "worried" about seem stupid, but I know they're not stupid because they were very real at the time.  Also, I think if I didn't give these fears my full attention, I may not have been as successful as I have been to date.

I'm about 50 more pounds off my end goal and I know that will not be the end, I will continue to strive for bettering myself in both physical and emotional ways.  I have to hunker down and get this done.

I'm noticing if I don't exercise every day, the weight loss stalls quite a bit.  I'm not really into the 80/20 theory with diet and exercise, I think there's a genetic modifier that needs to be applied and it's different for everyone, just my opinion... don't hold it against me.

  18. What she said... Do you wear a watch or a belt? Those should be the most noticeable places the fat is dissolving from, at least for me it was when the scale was sluggish.
  19. Congratulations, what a great transformation, I'm sure you're proud of the hard work you put in!

Protein in my full liquid diet

Shakes need to become part of your life for a long time if you want to do this right. Get them in, there's some good options out there, you don't need to do the Premier protein type shakes if you don't like them. Try skim or nut milk with powders. The best powders I've had are Xtend, Body Fortress and Isopure.

    Newbie prepping for surgery

Sounds like you're off to a great start, you definitely need to adopt all of these things sooner than later. It's amazing how many times I am reading about someone who doesn't try to change before their surgery and then struggle post-op. I say, the sooner you change your eating and activity habits, the better. The hardest thing that needs to get up to speed the soonest is your activity. I know it's hard when you're carrying more weight around, but it gets so much easier if you start early and keep going as you shed the weight. You will only need a gap in activity between pre-op and post-op for healing and even during healing there's nothing stopping you from walking. Good Luck to you, it's a long and rewarding journey.

21 y/o guy never able to have alcohol again?

THIS👆 I think it all depends on how you handled alcohol before starting this program. If it was very casual for you before, then you have a better chance of being able to control it after. Same goes for me, I can handle a glass or two every now and then, but I can definitely see the potential for addiction transfer if you're not careful.

    Gassy

Walking around as much as possible is the only thing that will get that gas out, unfortunately. Fight through the pain of movement and it gets better each time you do so. Do an extra amount each time as well. I cringe when I think about having that gas pain, it was awful, hope you feel better soon!
