This is really important for us newer sleevers to hear because we are trying to gauge our success. I've realized I can't really go by what the surgeon says. At 5'3" and a starting weight of 243, he expected me to be able to lose 30+ pounds in the first six weeks. I'm sticking to plan and made it to 19.6 lost at 6 weeks. That encounter alone left me feeling like I'm failing. But I see that many people lose at a rate similar to mine, who started with similar body weight.

A lot of it for us who've been very overweight is mental. I have exactly the same issue. What helps me is taking photos and doing side by side comparisons using an app like picstitch or something. That really does help me to see what others see. The mirror lies. Lol

I'm terrified. Being militant about my Protein and Vitamins. I have super fine, thin hair to begin with. I can't afford to lose much of ANY without needing a wig! Seriously...my ponytail is like the diameter of between a dime and a nickel size. I just have to remember even if I lose a ton, this will have been worth it!

Thank you so much for this post. It's important and relevant for all of us to see/hear that it still takes real and constant effort to maximize the benefit we can realize from this tool. Too many of us have thought the surgery would make it easier, if not effortless. Totally not true! You can DO this thing.

I started the process in December 2016 and had surgery October 2018. I work for the state of West Virginia and our insurance required a 12 month medically supervised diet and 10% of your original weight lost. Took me more like 20 months to lose it. Once that was done, the pre-auth, denial, appeal, approval, labs, psych eval, nutrition classes took about three months all together. So if you don't count my diet period, only a few months. Hope yours goes fast! Mine was so drawn out that I had surgeons change in the practice I was going to, lol!

All.the.time. I'm three months out on the 22nd and I'm a super slow loser. Have lost 28lbs since surgery. Lost 76 before surgery so my body just wants to hold onto everything. 45 to go to get to "goal", and 70 to get to ideal body weight. I watch others losing massive weight and feel like I'm failing. I'm sticking to the plan though, and the surgeon is happy. Says since I started at lower BMI it's ok that this is slow. All my contacts morbid conditions are resolved except for sleep apnea. I have gone down three clothing sizes and two ring sizes. I've lost 36". I feel better. I need to stop seeing the scale as the main indication of weight loss. SO...today my hubby hid the scale. I'm only weighing every four weeks, at the request of my surgeon. I think without checking on it several times a day I'll concentrate more on the process and what I'm supposed to do rather than the scale. Wish me luck!! Hang in there...you're not alone in this feeling. [emoji171]

THIS, totally! I am a slow loser and the surgeon told me that as long as weight is in decline, even if only 2-4 pounds a month, we are good. Now, I have a lot less to lose than some, but he told me I am a slower loser. However, the health benefits have been remarkable for me. I'm losing inches and clothing and ring sizes, too. He told me to not worry unless I stall and lose nothing for more than TWO whole months, OR if I gain. Then he made me promise to only weigh every four weeks. Remember, loss will taper off and slow the farther out you get. [emoji6]

So funny! I didn't know this til my nutrition class pre-op when they told us to look for cues. My daughter is only 20 and hasn't had the surgery but ever since she was small her nose runs after eating a meal and she has to blow her nose. I swear it's because she is full! I never knew.

So I read elsewhere that a lot of people are reporting that they start sneezing when their pouch is full or their eyes/nose start running. That's so weird! Anyone here experience that sort of thing too? I know there's hiccuping and burping, but sneezing seems like such a strangely attached reaction to a full pouch

I totally feel you. I'm in the same boat. The closer you get to your ideal weight your body will slow down. WLS is just a starting tool now it's up to us with this brand new tool to use it properly. I can honestly say I have never been able to loose weight and keep it off. Let alone loose 48 lbs. as of today. Heavy my whole life and now being able to restart my lifestyle over. Be patient with yourself is what I keep telling myself over and over.

Hrsnjs got a reaction from jadecharm in How often do people weigh themselves after surgery ?
At my three month post op, my surgeon made me promise to weigh only once a MONTH. I am a bit scale obsessed and maybe that's why. His logic was that we get overconfident and can justify overeating when we see the weight coming off...or we can get too frustrated when we don't see the numbers we want. It makes sense to me. He said concentrate on the process and follow the rules, and weigh once a month. Now the sad part? I had to have the hubby literally hide the scale. Lol! I've been annoyed these first few days ...but I'm starting to like it!

    I am home now!

My surgery went well, no immediate complications, and I was only in for about 40 minutes or so. My first two days were misery, and I just slept a lot, but today is my third day, so I was able to head home now that I can eat small amounts and such.

My belly hurts still, b ut not too bad, and when I sip, my stomach and throat 'gurgles' quite a bit which is annoying, but I'm told it is a common thing and will subside with some time. I also get some pressure and pain when burping and especially with hiccuping. Otherwise, everything seems alright overall!

Hi everyone!! I had my 3 month check in at my surgeons today and it went amazingly well. Iโ€™m down 61 pounds and have another 30 or so to go until Iโ€™m just โ€œoverweightโ€.

Just wanted to see if any of you are having check ins this month and how itโ€™s going??

Let us know how it goes with logging and what you find that your intake is. Doesn't seem like you're getting enough Protein but you never know! Our stats are similar...I'm 5'4", was 243 day of surgery (10/22) and now 215. My surgeon says I'm a slow loser. I also have sleep apnea, diabetes and hypertension. The last two of which have resolved. No PCOS or bipolar...some anxiety that I take Wellbutrin for. Also, I'm meeting with my nutritionist at the end of the month to go over my food logs and see if there is anything I can do to help the loss or anything I've been doing that's hindering. I'll share info she gives me as well. Good luck!
