    Same for me George OG.
UPMC in Pittsburgh does not even offer them anymore. Not that I was considering it, but they made it clear on my first visit that they no longer offer the lap band

@George OG Check out "SmilinsShrinking" on You Tube. She had a total body lift in Mexico with Dr. Sauceda and sings his praises. She even video taped an interview with him a few days after her surgery. She's very open with her before and after pics, so there is a ton of information about the kind of surgery you're looking for if you watch her videos. Her name is Joni.

Wow I remember feeling that way after the pounds started coming off after surgery.I thought maybe I was doing something wrong and second guessing myself.I guarantee you anyone that sees you on a regular basis will notice your weight loss immediately. We are at most times our worst critic. The only advice I can give you is that we didn’t become our overweight selves quickly. It will take time for your body and mind to catch up to what’s happening!

My wife and I start our liquid pre-op diet tomorrow for surgery on 27th and 29th August. We both have the band but are doing the band to bypass. We are so excited and scared.

Six weeks is still early. I'd just be patient and see if it becomes easier to tolerate.
Why does your program want you off shakes? I still rely on them at 6 months because I have a lot of restriction. My program has no issue with that.

Earlier this week I was out of town in a city with incredible food. I went off the rails, willful gluttony. Me, working in a hotel room, with take out. I ate, not when I was hungry, but eating to my restriction, waiting an hour or two, then eating again. Amazingly because I have so much restriction this was still around 600 calories/day (best estimate since it was restaurant food)
BUT, what I am proud of, is this was not a slippery slope for me. My first day back home it was a little difficult to get back on track, and not order food in. Since then I've been fine, not a lot of hunger, basically just getting my Protein in. This didn't trigger carb cravings (carbs are my true love). It didn't trigger the f*ck it attitude I would get in the past when I fell off the diet wagon.
So long story short, I'm happy that this tool of WLS is working for me!

I totally know how you feel. I'm brand new to the group and just started my journey--I had my initial meeting with my dietitian and surgeon a couple days ago. I initially told two people I was choosing surgery--my fiance and my best friend who is also on her bariatric surgery journey. I wasn't going to tell my parents or other family at all, for the same reasons you are hesitant. My whole mindset was that I was going to go to family functions as I lost weight, and just say, "Oh, yeah! It's just this new diet I'm trying, " or eventually tell them after I got surgery. Then, when I was at dinner with my dad just after the information session, he brought up that he's noticed that I never eat tons at a time and basically wanted to know why I was so obese. From there, I explained hormones and PCOS and other factors and told him my choice. Surprisingly, he was beyond supportive--he even offered to pay. He broke the news to my mom with my permission and resources to teach her, and she is coming around.
But, at the end of the day, the choice to have surgery is the total opposite of "the easy way out". In my case, I have always been the big kid, have tried almost every diet known to man, have struggled with anorexia/bulimia, tried EVERYTHING to lose weight with no real success. Surgery is not the easy way out; doing nothing is the way out. Let people think what they want. You can educate them, but don't feel like you have to explain yourself. Always remember that this choice is life changing, and it will hopefully be beneficial for all aspects of your life.
Feel free to message me any time, beautiful.

Hi!!! You’re definitely not alone, i’m here. Ask me literally anything on planet earth. I’ll try my best to help.

Also, i totally get how you feel. I didn’t know anyone who had wls before i did either and i didn’t tell my family until the day before because they were not supportive either. I had surgery about 1 yr and a half ago and i couldn’t be happier. Welcome to the group!

    I’m jay btw.

George OG reacted to LaLaDee in What’s the most interesting thing you have learned about yourself through this journey?
Something I've learned about myself since WLS..
I put myself on a very strict diet after my sleeve and cut out caffeine, bread, Pasta, rice, soda, fast food and a range of other things. Unlike other WLS patients dealing with dumping syndrome and puking, I've never had a healthier gastrointestinal system in my life! Before WLS, I used to deal with stomach problems every single day of my life. I always attributed this to my gallbladder removal about 14 years ago. So what the heck was going on?
Seriously, how could I be puking less after WLS?
I started reading about gluten intolerance and celiac disease. It explains so much of what I've been through. Apparently when I was a child I was actually tested and diagnosed as gluten intolerant but Mum says I seemed to be fine, so they just carried on giving gluten to me.
I would love to have some testing done (and confirm the hazy results from my childhood), but you have to reintroduce gluten to your diet for at least 2 months to get accurate blood test results. At this stage of my weight loss journey, I'm trying to lose the last 10kg (22 pounds) so I'm not prepared to do that right now.
Realising that I'm gluten intolerant has been a total lightbulb moment for me. I used to live every day with abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhoea, vommitting, bone, joint pain, Vitamin deficiencies and a bunch of other immune, hormone and even mood related conditions. I'm feeling better than ever before! And without WLS, I wouldn't have figured it out!

All of my "snack" foods have to be labelled as Protein xyz
so I don't feel bad incorporating them
    protein chips, Cookies, nuts, whatever...
its a clever marketing ploy to keep me from goal...
