    Summerset (ALL VETS)
I can't speak for everyone, but it's not that we don't believe you, its that we need the VETS. We need the bitter truths, the cautionary tales, the elder wisdom, the proof it can be done, failures and rises...
With all the fake everything on the internet I was hoping this would be the one place no one was faking.
The VET presence is sorely lacking, and understably so. The neophytes are hostile , confrontational know it all little buggers, myself included, and VETS are busy and owe us nothing in the end.
    But children still need parents

I had to go research what my RD said about expected weight loss. I couldn't remember if she'd told me 60 or 65% on average and it's that average that they use to calculate where they kind expect you to land.
It's 65% of EBW lost within the first 18 months--but the first 6-9 months is considered the "honeymoon period" where the greatest weight loss typically occurs.
EBW is calculated by taking your ideal weight (100lbs for the first 5 feet, then 5lbs for every inch over 5 feet = women ideal weight). Subtract your ideal weight from your Day Of Surgery Weight and you will have your projected weight. Right now, you only need to worry about realizing the pre-operative weight goals set for you by your doc and RD. The EBW clock starts with the morning of surgery weigh-in.
Bariatric surgery is technically considered successful if the patient maintains a 50% loss of EBW over 5 years.
If you truly modify your behaviors, work on building better eating habits and relationships with food, do the headwork, work with a therapist to heal wounds and addictions and emotional eating relationships with food, you can do much better that the projected amounts and you can maintain better than the gruesome 50% statistic over 5 years.

News Flash! Frustr8 weight has lowered. to 290 pounds, 7 weeks post and I have lost 53 pounds since July 31st. Never could have done this without my Bariatric tool. God Bless you Bradley J Needleman, you and your surgical staff have performed a miracle. Well I helped a little, my stricture kept my liquid portions small, whoever wants to claim credit, just go ahead! I think I may be finally going down in clothing size, granted there is still an X after it, but I believe it to be a mention-worthy NSV!😛😛

I'm pretty much getting more than half my prorein requirements from a big Protein Shake that takes me about 3 hours to sip through. I'm only managing 1/4 cup of food two to 3 times a day...i guess that's ok....just not what i had expected...hard to adjust to. Not a fan of the taste of the Protein shake but it does help with the Fluid requirements too

This is my problem as well. I’m 3 weeks post op. I have tried the Premier Protein Clear Water that has 20 grams of Protein but it’s a little to sweet to drink too often. I’m having trouble with chicken, tuna well pretty much anything solid. Really frustrating as the first couple weeks were so easy😞

cindih576 reacted to Creekimp13 in Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread
Yep, I eat them all. Love them. They're a daily part of my diet. Sometimes multiple times a day.
    OMG, they're carbs!
Yep, they are. But they're not refined, over-processed, or bad.
And you know what else they are?
Excellent sources of plant based Protein and Fiber.
A baked potato has 160 calories. By itself, it has 4g of protein. Throw some vegetarian chili on there and you're in the high teens. Awesome lunch!
Brown rice...half a cup has around 100 calories and 3g of protein. Add some bean or peas and you've got complete amino acids...tons of protein... and a crazy awesome amount of fiber.
Why is dietary fiber important? To grow good gut bugs. Your microbiota and the health of your gut (and metabolism) depend on happy little bacteria. The strains of gut bugs that live in the guts of skinny people....have a favorite food: dietary fiber. Feed your good bugs good things and they'll be good to you.
They like to eat fruit, veggies, Beans, whole wheat bread...
Whole wheat bread? I eat this A LOT:)
For instance.....A lite Thomas English wheat muffin has 5g of protein for 100 calories. This dietary powerhouse has 8g of dietary fiber! Smear that sucker with your favorite nut butter or fruit preserves, and you're in business.
One of my favorite go-to dinners these days...... is fresh homemade wheat bread with 16 veggie soup...and fruit for dessert.
I eat about four servings of fruit a day...and that's not even counting the watermelon I huddle over in the car while hissing "My Precious...." LOL:)
A banana is not "a candy bar" A banana is a wonderful healthy food. I eat lots of them. Hell, I have a Yonanas that makes them into ice cream. They're terrific.

Normal weight does not HAVE to mean giving up carbs. It means being carb smart, balancing, and making mindful choices.
More than one way to do this whole thing.
Weight loss success does not mean ONLY eating meat for the rest of your life with broccoli on the side. That's great once in a while, though!
Not trying to tell anyone they're doing it wrong.....just sayin'....there's more than one way to do it right:)

Extreme thinking, extreme dieting, extreme self denial....is not sustainable.
Work on a forever diet you can live with.
Be mindful, be accountable....but be kind to yourself.

I am nearly 7 months out and from my experience, the hunger doesn't really go away. For me it is a constant daily challenge of managing what I eat and dealing with being hungry. I hate being hungry and I hate being cold, but for me that is the price of getting to the weight that I have set as my goal. Undoubtedly it has been hard, and I am frustratingly close to my goal, but you get out what you put in. The question I would have or you, is how much you can eat in one session. If you can only eat a cup or less, then the surgery was probably done properly. If it is more than that, then I would agree that something is probably wrong. My suggestion is back to basics, maybe start over from the liquid diet and do a complete reset. Follow the guidelines you got following surgery slavishly for a couple of weeks and see what that does. Personally I keep a food diary in myfitnespal, something I never thought I would do. However it helps keeps me honest with myself about what I am eating,

Also I agree your surgeon is an ass... No-one should call you a failure, this is really hard.

I sooooo feel your frustration. I went thru it too. 3 weeks and the scale not moving. I just posted that on week 4 the scale moved. I asked the doctor and he said it ok to step on the scale everyday but you have to keep your mind that it is only a data entry. You have to look at it as data and what is the big picture. A week out , month out, year out. Our body's change every day. Holding Water, bloating, gaining muscle, to many things can effect our weight. When the doctor looked at my weight he said it is moving down not up! It so does freak our minds out when we have been seeing the scale move daily and now our bodies is adjusting to a new way of living. Our new goal is to get more water and Protein in anyway we can and just consecrate on that only right now. I set my goal for my daughters wedding in Dec. 2019. Look out Hot Dress!

cindih576 reacted to AlteredReality in 6 week post-op update
Today makes 6 weeks since my surgery and I officially go back to regular foods. It has definitely been a journey, learning my new stomach during this process. I have begun to eat food that I never liked before and certain foods that I used to love, I truly despise now. I have learned my stomach no longer likes chicken and i'm okay with that. Vegetables are my best friend so far. Some sugar free drinks actually taste too sweet and I have to Water them down. My weight is coming off at a steady and not too rapid pace, which I am glad of. I can tell the difference with the weight I have lost so far. I can now walk up a flight of stairs normally. I used to have to walk one step at a time. My blood pressure and sleep apnea are steadily improving and I have more energy now. I am happy that I went through with the surgery overall.

Comparing yourself to another WLS patient is about as accurate as comparing a Car to a Building. 2 very VERY different things. You could have 2 twins, having the exact same starting weight, surgery, surgeon, etc etc etc etc and they would still lose at different rates.

Focus on you, not on others. There is no one else out there that is going to lose the way you do. No one.

Stall, Stall, Stall.......I'm frustrated. I am 5 weeks out revision from sleeve to bypass. I also had a set back of a small bowl obstruction which landed my back in the hospital week 2. I guess i am in the dreaded 3 week stall. I haven't lost anything since the 3rd week. I lost 14.8 prior to surgery and 16. 8 lbs since surgery on 9/10, but nothing since the 3rd week. I have actually gain and lost the same 1-2 lbs for the last 2 weeks. I know it happens, and by body and adjusting and all that, but it is still just discouraging. I am getting my Protein in and i have been doing better with liquids although i still need to improve more on that. It is just that, we are eating so little compared to preop, and i can't help but thinking, I should be losing something every week. My mind says how in the world can i not be lose anything for 2 weeks on what i am eating?? I am a revision from sleeve to bypass so i know i may also lose slower than other new bypass patients. I just can help but worry will the stall break? Will i not lose anything else? Will this not work for me because I had previous WLS? I'm sure i am am overreacting today (I hope!) but today I just seem more frustrated than other days, and I needed to vent to those i know will understand my frustration. I had prepared myself for stall, or so I though, I just i just really didn't prepare myself, that this soon out i would be going into a 3rd week of a stall. End of venting session. Thanks for listening.
