    Help/Advice Please.

Thanks again for your replies Screwballski and TeeJay84. My pain threshold is usually pretty good and in fact I didn't take anytime off of work for this surgery (which I guess may have slowed down recovery?). But Teejay84 that has really desire me, thanks. I've got a followup/first fill on 27th. But I don't feel I need to go to the ER now before hand [emoji846] Sent from my SM-N950F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Help/Advice Please.

Thank you for your answer Screwballski, but can I ask if you had the pain I've described? And was your surgery band on bypass? X Sent from my SM-N950F using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. I had a band over bypass surgery 18 days ago and I am experiencing some serious pain when bending over, standing up fom seated position or sitting myself down. All is fine when sat or standing. I have two palpable lumps under the skin on my tummy. One above my belly button which is the port I assume and the other is just below my left ribs. This is about the size and shape of a large egg. This is where the pain is. Well deeper inside/under the lump. I'm starting to worry that something is wrong as the pain is worsening rather than getting better. The trouble is I had my surgery in Belgium and live in England. I've tried emailing my contact (nurse) and he doesn't seem to appreciate how much pain I'm in. Any advice? Anyone experienced anything simlar? I do have a bariatric team in England that did my bypass but they are likely to be funny with me for having the band privately, won't they? Although my surgeon did suggest that he could do this surgery for me privately at my last annual (when he explained that he had not made my pouch small enough but couldn't rectify it on the nhs). I had my band fitted on the 22nd of this month (so 3 days out). The surgery was easy. However still quite sore - but not 'needing' to take any analgesia. Going to try going back to work tomorrow (mostly sedentary job), but would still have liked another few days on hindsight. Btw I had a band fitted over my bypass that I had done in 2013. I've heard lots of good things about this combination of treatment so quite excited. Good luck Sent from my SM-N950F using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. The reasons for avoidance are: 1. Because alcohol is laden with empty (useless) calories. 2. Because the carbonated drinks can dislodge the band. 3. Even if it does not dislodge the band it expands the stomach making it hold more (hence why restaurants serve all you can drink soft drink refills), so you can eat more. Am I going to fail?

I know how scary the 'is this going to fail feeling is. But you've had some sound advice. However worth knowing is that some of that initial restriction you feel at first is due to the tightness that the inflammation caused by surgery, gives you. You'll ease into the new way of eating. Good luck 😊
  8. Hi All, I thought I'd join your community as I could do with some support. In October 2013 I had a Gastric Bypass (RNY) at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, Somerset (England). I had been 123kg at 158cm. Pre surgery dieting got me down to 103kg. Initial weight loss was good (despite having virtually no restriction after 6 weeks) and within 6 months I had dropped to 75kg but then it slowed right down. I went on to lose just 2kg more in the following 2 months. Then sat at 73kg for around 6 months. By this time I had no restriction at all (other than when eating Indian food - go figure?!). I have never suffered with dumping and gradually my weight has risen. At 89kg I was beside myself. I just couldn't keep the weight off despite diets and exercise. I was back to square one, but with the disappointed, embarrassment and the indignity of having had a GASTRIC BYPASS 😫 My initial surgery was done on the NHS for which I am grateful but after tests (scans and barium swallow) it was confirmed that my surgeon had made my pouch too big and stoma too large. However he told me that nothing could be done on the NHS but if I would like to book in with him at his private clinic he could help. He suggested a band over bypass. Well I wasn't happy to be put in this situation and wasn't happy that he was moonlighting. However I wanted the surgery so after some research I decided to go to Belgium and have it done. I had the band fitted YESTERDAY! I'm still in Belgium and return home tomorrow. I can't tell you how much I'm hoping that this will help me manage my weight. Has anyone here had the same - Band on Bypass? I look forward to joining in some chat as a WLS old timer and newbie!
