    I know everyone has them

My nutritionist told me at my first post op visit that a week three plateau is normal and not to stress it. I am actually in that third week now and am dealing with it now also. Some loss just much slower than it was the previous weeks. She did not tell me how long it lasts so perhaps that is the issue.

    In absolute shock

So very sorry to hear that but yet again was for the best I am sure. I never had to have cardiologist clearance prior to surgery. I did, however, need to have an EKG done with the other preop testing. Not sure of your age but I do know a lot of the preop testing used to be different depending on your age. I am sure you are crushed but YOU ARE ALIVE! Good luck at the cardiologist and keep your chin up.

    Blood clots ?

I also have had a couple since surgery. I was told by a family member who had the same issue after surgery that her surgeon had calf cramps included in his post surgical Q and A paperwork. It just stated to make sure to take your vitamins as directed as a deficiency of some can cause cramps. As a general rule blood clots will hurt whether standing, sitting, kneeling or laying down. There is normally also swelling. Everyone is different though. I know when I got my cramps in calf I upped my Powerade to get more potassium and that seemed to do the trick.
  4. I am using bariatric advantage dark cherry chews. As far as vitamins go it is the best tasting so far and I have tried about 5 different ones. My nutritionist said after the first month no more flintstones as they do not have everything your body needs but they are fine for the first few weeks.

    Beverages with stevia

I just recently found that stevia has flavored liquid drops. It hasn’t been an issue for me. I just ordered a few different flavors to try in my coffee and shakes.
  6. I have never been a fan of popcorn. However, I always loved the smell of it. Last evening my step daughter was microwaving a bag and the smell made me seriously nauseous. In addition, this past weekend my husbands family had a reunion. One of his relatives brought some type of smoked meat. I loved smoked anything pre surgery. I had to change tables as the smell was so very overwhelming and was also making me nauseous. I am just at one month post op. Has anyone else had similar changes in smell? I knew tastes could change but I am convinced it has also affected my sense of smell.
  7. Has anyone else dealt with major nausea? I am one week today post op and have had to go to hospital twice now for fluids because of the nausea. Yesterday was horrible as I couldn’t even take a sip of water without vomiting. After the hospital yesterday my nausea meds were changed to phenergan over the Zofran and it has helped some. I received two or three bags of fluids yesterday (really disoriented I forget for sure) and was able to drink a whole g2 today. I still cannot get down any of the protein shakes. I even tried watering them down a bit thinking perhaps the consistency was to much for this angry temperamental belly. I see all these people doing so much better that I am wondering if I am alone that perhaps I did something wrong.

    July surgery

Thank you so very much for the earlier rant and compassion as I vented. I am now post op day 5 and for the first time I woke up feeling semi human. I had no pain in hospital.... none.... zilch.... nada. But once I was home that was a different story. In addition to the pain I couldn’t even get two ounces of water to stay down. After calling surgeon I was then put on IV fluids as I was dehydrated. They also gave me gas-x which I believe is what did the trick. Ohhhhh how I wish I had known I would have taken some to hospital just to get the ball rolling. Just so very happy I may actually get something accomplished today.

    July surgery

My RNY is scheduled for tomorrow (July 9)afternoon. Reality is crashing down on me today. My husbands grandma died on the 5th the viewing and funeral are tomorrow and Tuesday a state away. I am sending him there and my son is now taking over the hospital duties. I am a pretty structured person and had this all planned and formulated so to speak. So today I not only have the magnesium citrate to deal with but also figuring out the details of my ride, making sure I have most everything I will need after I am home, having the “just in case something would happen” talk with my son, and getting together the phone numbers he will need to notify that things went smoothly. ( I already did that once with my husband) My husband and I joke and doctors somewhat agree that my structure borders on OCD. I loathe change especially now redoing it. I am also quite the introvert and a pretty private person. Sooooo other than my husband it is really hard to say some of this stuff to others. But I don’t want to say it to him right now as I don’t want him NOT attending his grandmothers funeral either and I know he would stay here if I mentioned it. EVERY (and I mean every) conversation of theirs I heard over the last few years ended with her saying remember you are one of my pall bearers. I just can’t do that to him or to her for that matter. I can certainly open up to my children but anyone who is a bit introverted knows there are people you “let in” more than others and I have certainly moved that focus from the children (all adult children and living in four different states) to my husband since we have been together. My son who lives here in CO is happy to help but I guess I need to leave my comfort zone and allow his help at this point. It just sucks that my husband went through all of the appointments and nutritionist classes with me and now I won’t have him here. Sorry I just needed to get it off my chest with people who MAY understand. Funny too I am normally a much smoother and better composer of writing and I apologize for this is a bit choppy and unorganized and grammatically wrong I am sure. Again, thanks for letting me vent!
