  1. I went through a period where I drank a lot of mint tea. It helped. Ginger tea can be good too. Good luck. I’m sure it will pass.

Thank you for sharing those recommendations. I feel better about what I've been eating.

    Can I color my hair?

I don’t see why not. You’re not going to feel like taking care of those things for a week or two post-surgery. Good luck!

I look forward to hearing what you are told. My nutritionist is positively coy about what I should be eating. She only wants to talk about habits like chewing each bite 25 times and getting enough water. I’m supposed to aim for 75 grams of protein daily but no guidance on other macros or calories. For me, I know tracking works, so I want numbers! Good luck.

I’m shooting for 1000 calories a day but sometimes eating more like 1200. I’m losing 2-2.5 pounds a week.
  6. @ellie123 How awful for you! I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I hope your surgeon can help you feel better quickly. I’m confident that you can have another special mother-son date that will show your son how much you love him.

    July Sleeve

We’re all so similar! Sleeve done on July 3 and I am down 56 pounds including Pre-op. I had my 3 month follow-up/nutrition check last week and am waiting to hear back. I was afraid that I was losing too slowly (comparing myself to some people here) but my NP said I was doing great.
  8. You might like miso soup better or different kinds of herbal tea. Post-op I couldn’t stand sweet so broth was my savior. Our taste changes are so unpredictable. Good luck.
  9. Welcome! This is a great place to share, get support or just listen.
  10. I’ve had a mini-stall every time I’ve progressed in the types of food I’m eating. So far it has passed within a week each time.

    I hate protein shakes

I hate the fake sweetness too. I switched over to chicken broth with a scoop of unflavored protein powder that I drink like tea. Be sure to mix the protein in when the broth is Luke warm, not too hot and not too cold.

    Spark (advocare)

Most surgeons recommend that their patients go easy on the caffeine or give it up entirely. You’ll have to see if your system can tolerate it. For me the big surprise of this surgery was how sensitive my new stomach is. Things like my normal medications and favorite foods nauseate me. But I’m only 3 months out.
  13. Congratulations to your sister! I live close to Juniors in Fort Greene.

    Smelling Sewage Constantly

I’ve found that I am much more sensitive to chemical smells like carpet cleaner and air sprays. Also, I seem to have lost my taste for fish. I’m hoping it’s only temporary. I am 8 weeks out.

I’ve found a breakfast that I stick with every day. 1/4 cup part skim ricotta mixed with a packet of Splenda and a few drops of vanilla. I eat that with 1/4 cup of berries or sliced peach. I make a lot of cold cucumber yogurt soup and have that for lunch with a couple slices of turkey breast. When the weather changes, I’ll have to find a hot option. I love Asian style dumplings, so I’ll eat a few of those for dinner, along with spinach or zucchini cooked in some chicken broth. I’m looking for good ideas too. I’m 8 weeks out.
  16. I’m 8 weeks post-op. For the first 6 weeks, I averaged about 5 pounds a week, but these last 2 weeks, I have only lost about 2 pounds per week.

    Liquid diet tips

Fruit punch is my least favorite. I mostly drink raspberry flavor and sometimes the orange-mango. It’s all what your body can tolerate. I drank the premier shakes for my pre-op diet but now they turn my stomach.

    Liquid diet tips

Premier makes a good clear drink now too. 20g of protein per bottle.
  19. When I ate things that were “too advanced” for me, I got severe stomach spasms that calmed down if I stopped eating that food. Some nausea as well.
  20. I need to! Today at work, my boss told me that my dress looked like a “damn mumu” on me and that I should throw it away. [emoji37][emoji23][emoji19]
  21. Difficulty taking medication has definitely been the big unpleasant surprise of this surgery. I got a sleeve on July 3. I also take a couple of antidepressants and it’s still a struggle to take them every day. They make me feel so nauseous that I can barely force myself to take them. Sometimes I can’t. One of the meds comes in liquid form and that doesn’t help. My stomach just can’t tolerate it. I’m hoping this passes. If I take one capsule at a time on a full stomach, and the planets are aligned correctly, it can be not too bad, but most of the time ...

    July Sleeve

Yes, I had sharp pain in my left shoulder for at least 2 weeks. I read your post and realized it had been gone for quite a while now but I don’t remember when it stopped ( I’m 5 weeks out. ). My doctor told me it would gradually fade and it did. Hang in there.

I added some capers to the above for a bit more flavor. It sat fine.
  24. During my pre op diet, I never went into Ketosis according to the pee sticks, but I lost 13 pounds and the surgeon said my liver looked good. If you follow that diet, you’ll be in good shape.
