I’m 46 and was sleeved 5/21. Have lost almost 60 pounds today. Definitely wish I had done it in my youth. I still have great years ahead, but sometimes feel like my youth was wasted. So many years of limiting myself due to my weight.

I agree. And quite honestly I find blanket statements like "NSAIDs could be life threatening" to be scare mongering. Sure, maybe prolonged use, maybe high doses. We can survive having 80% of our stomach removed, but 1 Advil may kill you.
I think they just dumb it down to the lowest common denominator. So instead of saying limited NSAIDs might be ok, talk to me about it. They simply say never ever, and be done with it. I think it really short changes patients.
    Sorry, off my soapbox!

Thanks silly kitty. It always astounds me how different the medical advice can be surgeon to surgeon. Mine advises that taking NSAIDs could be life threatening. Wish these doctors could come to a consensus for consistency sake.

Congratulations! Just remember that everyone has buyers remorse in the first few days and even weeks. It will get better, I promise. Just look forward to a few weeks down the road when you’re feeling better and dropping weight. There are good times coming, but you have to tough it out until then. You’re going to do great, you made the right choice and this will change your life for the better!

olive oil (as needed to coat onion and prevent sticking)
    1/2 medium onion, medium dice
    Kosher salt
    2 medium carrots, chopped
    1 celery stalk, medium dice
1 cup additional vegetables of your choice (I used asparagus & mushrooms: medium dice
5-6 cups (1 quart) homemade or store bought chicken or vegetable broth (Swanson cooking stock is your best bet for store bought).

Heat a stock pot with a few drizzles of olive oil and cook onion until translucent (about 5 mins). Add carrots and celery (another 5 mins). Add remaining veggies and cook until soft (the tip of a knife should easily pierce the carrots.) Add several pinches of salt to veggie mixture. Add broth and bring to a boil. Then simmer for approximately 25 mins. Unfortunately we can’t consume tomatoes, black pepper, garlic or wine, but this is a flavorful substitute. You will need to blend the final product. It should be completely smooth with zero particles. Add additional stock to thin if needed (the PP will thicken the end result). I add unflavored Unjury Protein Powder directly to my serving dish to ensure I get it all in. I froze the left overs in ice cube trays and then popped them into freezer bags to reheat for later. Hope you can tolerate this early on. I was also sleeved on 5/21, but it might be a bit early for some.

I was sleeved on 5/21 and also had barely any pain, but debilitating nausea. I was throwing up blood at one point from the violent retching. Everyone including my surgeon had no sympathy and acted as if I was being a baby. I heard remarks like “I’m guessing you’ve never had surgery before” (I’ve actually had two non related abdominal surgeries with zero pain meds) or “I heard you’re feeling sorry for yourself” from my surgeon! Before the surgery, I was frequently nauseous, so I can handle being nauseous, but this was 10/10; I felt like dying. Found out they had given me a narcotic that I’m allergic to which when taken causes severe motion sickness (could not even turn my head without retching. Once all pain meds were discontinued the nausea went completely away within 24 hours.

I was sleeved on 5/21/18 and I’m allowed to purée homemade vegetable Soup (w/unflavored PP) which is the first thing I’ve found completely delicious. Being a trained chef, the processed foods taste horrendous to me so homemade is key to be satisfied. I also made a Protien shake with Soy milk, Peanut Butter, teaspoon unsweetened cocoa power, unflavored PP and a couple slices of frozen banana (very high protein). I’m amazed by the comments on these boards have such vastly different nutritional guidelines. Bizarre how info differs from one surgeon to another.

I'm confident that we all have that though, even if we never admit it. I mean, we have gotten to a point where we are talking about surgical intervention to help us with our already failing habits. So, it's 100% natural to have some doubts or be scared. But this is where you get to take the reigns and decide that you won't fail. Failing, is a choice. Failing is when we decide to give up. If you try and don't succeed, as long as you keep trying, you aren't actually failing, you are just figuring out what actually works for you.
So, decide that you won't fail. Choose to not give up this time. Choose to take any and all missteps as learning experiences and ONLY as learning experiences.
This is your time to mold yourself back into the image you wish.
    You got this!

Thank you guys so much! MAYBE good news - I called insurance to verify the dates and everything and they said that my clinic had it wrong, so I may potentially be able to get the surgery before school starts up in August, giving me ample time to get used to everything before Prague and without missing any class! @proudgrammy If you happen to find yourself in Prague anytime between January-May, let me know!
I appreciate all the advice and input and will be sure to follow. Thanks again and wish me luck for a sooner surgery!
