Wanda247 reacted to FluffyChix in Yup. I regret this.
Yep yep yep. What everyone said! Mostly you need to know your numbers--what are your present electrolyte numbers and chemistries along with vitamin/mineral numbers--including your Iron status.
Then talk with PCP about a plan to naturally up your fluids and your minerals if needed (i.e. sodium/trace minerals/and if indicated--potassium). This isn't something you monkey around with. But by upping the minerals it should help get rid of the dizziness.
I had that when weaning off my bp meds and had low potassium. Now my bp is fine. I added back Pink Himalayan Sea Salt and every now and then if I feel week or crampy, I will also take a Magnesium Citrate and a pinch of NoSalt for the potassium. But I do it cuz I know my numbers!

I have type 2 or had even though medically they won’t say cured but in remission. I was on metformin twice a day and trulicity once a week. I stopped all when I went on my liquid pre op diet. I’m due for my A1C next month but my morning #’s are about 115 last time I tested. (Sleeved 1/21)

I was on Metformin and left the hospital without taking any meds again (been 15 weeks). My sugars are routinely in the mid-70's in the morning. I might need to eat a few more carbs...

I was on Kombiglyze, Farxiga and Basaglar before surgery. I was able to stop all medication while in the liquid phase but sugars crept back up after I started soft foods and until now. I’m now almost 8 weeks out and back on just Basaglar once daily. So I cut out 2 meds and my A1C is down from 8.9 in November to 7.4 this week. Progress!

Today is 6 months post op for me and I feel so good. I don’t look at this process as a diet, it’s my new lifestyle. I will have to watch my weight the rest of my life and I’m so ok with that...for me it’s all about the mindset.
I had so many medical issues before surgery and type 2 diabetes was the one that helped me to make my decision to have the gastric sleeve surgery. I can’t be more pleased about my decision and have never had one regret, i was on 1500 mg of metformin and the highest dosage of victoza and my blood sugars were still out of control, now I am not on any meds for diabetes from the day that I got out of the hospital from surgery, my A1C went from 9.8 to 6.6 that was 3 months after surgery so it’s time for blood work again, the endocrinologist said that my A1C will go even lower as I lose more weight...YES I’ve experienced the dreaded feeling sick 🤢 from eating to fast, trying beef to early but it’s all a learning experience and we all have to get adjusted to our new tool. I still have more weight to lose and I am diligently working on it, I do cardio and no strength training yet.
I want to encourage all of the newbies and pre-opers to hang in there, things do get better and better each day...I have so much energy, stamina and just overall better health.
I wish you all the best on your journeys 💕🌺

Hi there...I did not have a pre-op diet either, I just could not have any food after 10:00 pm the night before surgery. Every team is different in their requirements. Just keep asking your doctor questions for your concerns, you said he has good reviews but is lacking in communication so trust him and ask all the questions that you need to. You will be just fine, follow your plan.
Congratulations on your up coming surgery and I wish you all the best!

Wanda247 reacted to Catherine Wible in Life Changing Decision
My doctor is so busy, it took 6 months to get a date and then the date was 3 months away. I have to say though, it was worth the wait! I am only 10 days out, and I am doing great. No pain that a couple of Tylenol couldn't handle, no nausea, and I am down 15 pounds since surgery.

I'm a well controlled type one. I hardly ever use insulin.

I was type 2. The only med I was on was metformin but getting close to being on others. I can't even remember but at most I took my metformin for a day or two (seems like a life time ago) and my sugars have been normal ever since.
Best of luck!

Hi KC. I was type II diabetic. I was only on medication, no insulin. I left the hospital no longer needing medication. My husband was also diabetic, on insulin and a few different meds. He had the bypass. He was able to also leave the hospital no longer needing insulin or meds.

Everyone will have different pre and post op instructions. You need to follow what your surgeon has set forth as the guidelines for the program for his surgical patients.
It would be difficult for me to allow a surgeon to operate on me if I was not comfortable with how he or she presented information to me but that’s my opinion and maybe you only have one surgeon available to you.
Many topics you are asking about such as medications after surgery are often discussed in a group class prior to your surgery date, many times three-four weeks ahead of time. The nutritionist and bariatric coordinator are often the ones at this meeting.

I am a week pos-op and I am doing great. I have been taking care of myself since I got home. I am 63, by the way, I did a lot of prep work though. I filled the kitchen with the fluids and pureed food that i need post-op. It made the first couple of days home much easier. Other than the diarrhea (sorry if that is TMI) I have had no issues. My surgery was done laparoscopic so I have 5 small incisions, and the one that they used to remove the portion of my stomach that was removed through was sore for about 4/5 days, but I didn't need anything but tylenol for the pain. If you don't feel that your doctor is giving you enough information, keep on pressing for answers. You are paying him/her for their services and you have the right to know everything! If you aren't comfortable with this doctor, maybe you need to find one that you are more comfortable with. You will need to have a long term relationship with your doctor and their team. Good luck!
