  1. Hello All - I’ve been trying to keep up with all of the posts; so forgive me if I have missed this topic already! I had my surgery on 11/5 and am in the final week of the purée portion. I am so sick of broth and liquids and am so ready to eat real food again. I have been eating some mashed potatoes and soft scrambled eggs (which is allowed). I have done well with them, but have also grown tired of them. Does anyone have suggestions, hints, etc. on how to get through the next week? Thanks ahead of time!!

  2. Hi All - my surgery is Monday, November 5th. I have been so hyped About this since starting - but the closer to surgery date I get, the more nervous I get! The 3 week pre-op diet has been ok - not to bad, so I’m hoping the rest will go ok! Good luck to all the November bypassers!! Anyone recently post-op that wants to share how it went!

  3. So, surgery is scheduled for Nov. 5th and I am super excited. I’ve been nowhere near as nervous as I thought I would be - however, I’ve had a rough first day of the Pre-Op Diet. I’ve eaten and drunk exactly what I was supposed to, but have felt hungry all day. At first, I thought it was mostly mental, but as the day has gone on - my stomach has been pretty noisy. Does this get any better. I hope it does. Can anyone who is or has been on the diet share your experience? Thank you!

  4. Hello All - I just received my surgery date Thursday - set for November 5th. I am truly excited and looking forward to it. Up until this week, I had been planning to have the VSG; however, after reviewing all of the test/lab results - my doctor suggested the RNY. It appears that it will help me lose more weight - which I am at 360 now - and get rid of the co-morbidities that I suffer from (high blood pressure and Type 2 Diabetes). I have research the VSG extensively, but now find myself having to switch what I know to the RNY. Does anyone have information that they would like to share - Do's and Don'ts - Suggestions - FYIs, etc. I would appreciate any and all assistance.

Also, I was told by the nutritionist that I wouldn't be able to drink coffee or tea after the surgery. I was prepared to drink Decaf coffee & tea - but didn't realize I would have to give it up fully. Is there anyone else who has had the RNY who still drinks decaf coffee and/or tea?

    Thanks to all.

Well I had my surgery yesterday. VSG by Dr David Oliak. Surgery was done at Orange Coast Hospital, in Huntington Beach CA, and I’m in the ICU for a day because Severe OSA. But that’s been fine on their CPAP with my mask.

I’ve walked a few times. Last night and this morning. A little sore but really not bad. Still NPO which sucks. I’m so thirsty.

Looking forward with little trepidation for the next part of the journey.

    Good look all.
Congratulations.....hope your journey goes well for you!!

    Hey everyone,

I just thought I would introduce myself and tell ya'll a little about me and my journey. So I have been severely obese my whole life and when i was young my mother and grandmother had gastric bypass surgery. When i was about 16 my mother decided that i needed to have the surgery. I went through the process for several months before they realized i was too young for the insurance to cover the surgery. They approached and asked me to wait a few more months until I was almost 18 and then continue the program where I left off. Upset i left and waited coming back to the program a few months before i turned 18 i again attended the appointments as instructed. I was about a month or two away from the surgery and then my private therapist told me that he had gotten the information back from the clinic and they had included their notes. He told me that they didn't think I was dedicated enough to the surgery . I was heart broken what did that even mean I wasn't dedicated enough I had done so much to prepare for the program driving hours away jumping through hoops trying to do everything they asked of me. The only explanation i could come up with that fir the description was that they expected me to lose weight when doing the things they had asked and I had instead gained about 25 pounds. Devastated I gave up on the thought of losing weight through that method and just continued my life as I was ...

Here I am 24 I have now gained about 50 to 75 more pounds from what I was at that time and hardly able to move. I dont know if I want the surgery but I feel I have no real choice in the matter. I am terrified that I will put in all the work and just be denied again. If it doesn't happen this time I dont know what I will have left. I'm almost 25 years old and i weigh about 415lbs and in 5'4". My BMI is over 70 my body is giving away and everyone wants to tell me what I need to do as if I dont look in the mirror and see it clear as day. I just want things to get better I want to have a life . Be able to have kids and go to theme parks and be some kind of normal.

I called and scheduled an appointment with roller weight loss program in Fayetteville Arkansas today. And in about a week and a half I should have some answers. I am scared! I just want to know if anyone has been in my situation. And what kind of advice anyone has. I will try to post updates on what is going on.

kteminem - you’ve got this!! Like several on here, I wished I had started this process several years ago, but waited. Now I’m ready to get the extra weight off, so my knees, feet, etc will feel better and I can come off of the several medications I take! I am still pre-op and am scheduled for my first consult! I’ve been in several blogs and forums asking questions and reading all I can! Good luck and let us know how your initial visit goes Friday!!

  7. Hi All - After many years of battling my weight - I have decided to opt for a gastric sleeve surgery. It was suggested by a friend (who has also had a gastric sleeve) that I join this site to look over all the information available. You guys are so great and such an inspiration. I have my first consultation this coming Friday. I am so excited and scared at the same time. I won't have any issues with insurance coverage - that's not a concern. My major concern - that has me scared is the loose skin that will remain. I am 360 pounds - and pretty much all belly....so I believe I will have a huge hanging skin roll after my weight loss. Can any guys share their experience after weight loss....?? I have seen a few people state that insurance coverage would handle corrective surgery - but I know that changes by policy. Any of you that have lots of excess skin - do you have any issues with it?

I know that I will be so much better off after the surgery and it will be great for my health. I am not sure why I am so concerned over the excess skin - but I am.
