Your last sentence just answered your Q in my thinking. Make the 2hr trip for almost guaranteed clearance, or risk denial going somewhere else?

7 days post-op and I'm wondering about the gurgles, too. Does it want something or is it just whining? I need a new course in deciphering my body language. The sounds seem loud to me! I have felt hunger pangs, though, which was a surprise. Didn't expect that at all. Will things keep changing for a while until everything settles down?

Thanks, Missouri-Lee. I'm glad you could access it this time. As a retired librarian, I try to put my OCD "features" to constructive use in research. I DO LOVE RESEARCH. :-)

The website where I found the article is www.weightymatters.ca and you can then get to the whole article. Then there is a partial page of research papers written by Sarah Nutter, who responded to my letter written to the three authors of the study. Well, everything is in png, so hope it works for you!

Ha, I'm not THAT good! No, I wrote to the three Canadian researchers who were looking at how people dealing with obesity feel now that obesity is classified as a disease, and seeing if it has impact on weight-related bias toward those who are overweight. I will try again to see if I can send it again in a different format. Before reading that article I was not aware of the debate and controversy on the AMA decision. I see I put it in a Pages doc - will try for Word or pdf.

LoriNumbers - I opted for the same flexibility. 5 days post-op, I am feeling HUNGER, craving something with crunch and savory. Protein Shakes and Jello are not providing satiety, although the chicken broth helps somewhat. whey Protein does not taste good in chicken broth to me for some reason. Am having better luck with collagen protein, adding the tryptophan separately to create a complete protein. I am blindsided by this hunger - did not expect any hunger at all for a long time. Any of this ring true for you?

Ditto. 3 days post-op and I feel weak, dizzy, tired. I just take a nap. Body's gotta do its thing. I try to up the Protein g tally each day also - body needs the protein to heal.

Anita - I imagine most of us have allegiance to favorite foods prepared in certain ways. Most of the recipes I see for the Nutribullet and on Pinterest don't appeal to me. i have adopted two strategies: 1) I get creative to see how I can modify my favs so they will be healthy, or at least have a ton more protein; 2) if I can't modify it to my liking, I agree to give it up for the 10 weeks until I can begin regular food textures, etc. It really depends on your long term goal. My NUT says "There is no cheating - only choices." I don't want ANY food having control over me, and already I find things I used to favor just have no more appeal to me. Perhaps you can discuss this with your NUT and counselor, and in your support groups. I know a few who have an occasional beer 1 yr after surgery, but again, it is a choice only you can make for yourself.

Missouri-Lee - I felt compelled to write to the three women who authored the paper. I did not expect a reply but wanted to convey the power of the AMA decision in my life. If you can't access the attachment let me know.

You have carved out a great response and I will use it with some people, if you don't mind! You are correct, you can often hear acceptance or judgment in a person's tone.

I've done my share of avoiding doctors, too. It is stunning to me how misinformed physicians can be, judging from the shared stories here. I guess we all can be ambassadors and try to shine an educational light on things just by being ourselves. I know the surgical practice I'm working with is getting more and more clients -- very busy, and having to hire more coordinators to manage the influx.

I didn't mean you are being negative or toxic, it's just that fears, anxiety, and stress become like toxins in our body that are not healthy to carry around, and I was just offering the method I use to get them out of my system (I always end up laughing at myself) , in the same way that tears flush out emotional "toxins." I'm sorry if I offended you. :-)

Are you ready, Nisha? Just last minute kitchen cleaning here, filling the pet bowls, double check the go bag... I am surprised that I am still feeling excitement. The nerves will kick in Monday for sure, I feel it coming. I want Monday to be a day to get centered, relax, meditate. It's been 198 days getting to this moment, and I want to acknowledge all the roller coaster of emotions and research and appts I've "endured" to get on the gurney to OR - ha! Let's all take a deep breath and think positive, good thoughts. Maybe some favorite music to calm things down.

I doubt you're the only one, Bubula. I have the utmost respect and regard for the anesthesiologist, keeping you asleep just enough and focusing on you the whole time - your vitals, your face, your extremities. Can you describe your fears about it?

Both of you are right, J San and Simpson. What will be will be, and fretting doesn't help or change anything. Learning to relax is the most helpful for our systems. Some Xanax would also be nice. :-)

I'm amazed you can have yogurt so soon. I will be on liquids for 4 weeks before getting yogurt, applesauce, mushy stuff. All these plans vary so widely!

That sounds normal, you being in the medical field. I overthink things, too, and plan obsessively. My surgeon required such a thorough pre-op process of clearances to get "vetted" that I feel very confident about the surgery and aftermath. The only thing I didn't have to go through was a Senate Confirmation Hearing! If you have confidence in your surgeon and hospital, you just have to surrender to faith. A fav quote: "Faith sees best in the dark." (by Kierkegaard). Let's do this, Liz. We've waited a long time for this and our moment is nigh. Tuesday for me, Wednesday for you. Got your go bag packed?
