I’d love if everyone checked in here to share their updates, questions, milestones, meals, high and lows and everything in between.
My surgery was May 21st and I’ll love to hear from everyone who had their procedure recently. I’m totally obsessing about how much is everyone else sipping

I'm a month away from surgery and don't know how to talk with my staff that I'm getting WLS. I go back and forth if I should tell them or not. I'm their manager and know most will be very supportive but am unsure how I can interact on a daily basis with ones that will be difficult about it. I know I have one employee that I respect and consider to be a friend that hates all surgery because he feels that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Clearly I'm broken and need this surgery. Any help would be great.

I would not tell anyone at this point. You dont need there approval or opinions. Decide at a future date what to say if anything at all. it will be months before they will know something is different with you and you can decide at that time what to say and to whom.
Remember you can never untell someone

Here is what my wife told me; 20% of people you tell do not care, and the other 80% are glad it is not them... I have elected to tell family members, and a few close workers, but as I move forward, I only keep the family updated on my progress.

I’m not telling anyone at work. I’m only sharing this experience with my husband. I’ve chosen to keep it private as it is one of those things everyone likes to give their opinions on, whether you asked or not lols. It’s hard enough without helpful friends/coworkers giving their advice.

I am 7 weeks out from surgery and my wife and I have shared many of the same thoughts. She was afraid to eat in front of me but I finally convinced her it was not a problem. I just use my small plates, eat slowly and after 46 years of marriage she finally finishes eating most of her meal before me. We were both concerned about having to give up our favorite recreation, eating out.
We have been out to eat 4-5 times in last 3 weeks and easily found food to eat. Enchiladas can be opened to eat the shredded chicken and refried Beans, grilled or broiled fish goes down easy, shredded pork and chopped brisket go down easily. Mashed potatoes and thoroughly chewed french fires have worked well, and there is always soft scrambled eggs with some hash browns.
I seem to be able to eat more than many that write in here, but I also take home plenty of left overs. I typically am eating 4 oz of Protein with small portions of starch and vegetables.

If you're thinking Chinese, I like the broth off of hot sour Soup even more than egg drop.

Well it only says broths and I feel bad for him. Tomorrow is two weeks and I’m calling the nutritionist at the drs to see what else he can have. Other than that we have to wait for him to start on phase 2 which is week 3. I’m going to look into your soup recipe. Thank you and good luck to you!

Is he allowed other Soups? I'd be bored of broth too! I made real slow cooked chicken stock, rich in Gelatin, and then used that to make some really substantial soups: a pumpkin and carrot Soup, a cauliflower and sharp cheddar soup, and more recently a rich blended pea and ham soup based on the below recipe, but using yellow split peas, and using my rich chicken stock rather than plain water: https://www.taste.com.au/recipes/pea-ham-soup-2/f8ffc44c-1ed2-4d69-9fe8-8c05d7be910b
I find my soups substantial enough that they've gotten me through fairly contentedly to almost the 2 weeks mark now

That’s so good, you go girl! My husband is doing good other than tired of drinking the shakes and he doesn’t like the broths. So idk what he can really have other than, egg drop Soup, sugar free Jello and sugar free popsicles. I just feel so bad for him when he are all eating in front of him. I’m trying the best I can to be supportive and not eat bad or in front of him but he says eat whatever. I’m so glad for this site as it helps me and thank you as well.

Did the nutritionist give him a meal plan? After two weeks, I began the soft/pureed stage.

I wanted to Celebrate Mother's day with my wife, and she has been concerned i may not ever be able to eat out again. I have been feeling out of sorts not eating with my family (or at least eating the same things) as I am still on the pureed stage. I did some research on a local restaurant that serves Mexican food, the wife's favorite. I told her we were going out and she again voiced concern I would just be watching her eat, but I had it planned out. She ordered her regular and I ordered a grilled chicken breast, minus rice and extra refried Beans. While waiting for the meals we had salsa and chips, or I should say I had salsa. Wife almost freaked out when she saw me grab a chip but relaxed when she saw I was just using it to scoop up salsa, which I would eat without eating the chip. I did try a little bit of queso but was still fearful it may be too rich so stopped at a taste.
Our dishes arrived and I slowly ate my refried beans over the course of 30 to 40 minutes and stopped when I started getting those "full" signals from my body. I got to go boxes and my wife asked me what I was going to do with the chicken breast, I just smiled and said chicken salad made with salsa instead of mayo. I still had enough beans to make up meals for the next two days.
I needed this, some normalcy to my life, where I felt I could be included in something as simple as taking my wife out. It was not completely the same, not drinking at meals still feels weird and of course I do miss the after dinner margarita
