Briswife15 got a reaction from Lynda486 in Update on picking goal weight
Update on my goal weight and current weight. Saw my bariatric team this week and I am not underweight! They told me to tell psychiatrist not to worry. 8 pounds from their goal for me, and more like 15 pounds from my goal. Which they did not disagree with. I was 148 on doctor's scale, fully clothed.

18 pounds, but everyone is right, it is toxic to compare yourself to others. You'll usually end up discouraged. Hang in there!

Briswife15 got a reaction from Mary_Berry_213 in Hypoglycemia after surgery???
Yes! I developed low blood sugar about a week after my RNY. Was told to drink a Protein Shake when it got too low, because we shouldn't have sugar. It leveled out. I had been diabetic before bypass, so this was a surprise! I eat every 3 hours, too.

Do you see a therapist? Are uou on any medication? The struggle post op is real! I can't really offer any suggestions, but exercise and meds help me. Also losing weight makes me feel more upbeat and confident and gives me the drive to stick with it. Hang in there.

Hi, Claire! Hugs to you. Please don't feel overwhelmed and depressed. Your body just went through makor surgery and some folks get depressed as an after effect of general anesthesia. Give your body time to adjust. Youre doing great. I'm almost 9 months post bypass and have lost 101 pounds form my highest pre surgery weight. If I can do it, you can too! Slow and steady wins the race. Not a sprint. Chin up and keep up the good work. You're awesome!

Thanks. All! I hit "healthy weight" on the BMI chart this morning and can't believe it! Went from morbidly obese. Will see what bari ream says next Monday. I think I'd be happy at 135. Enjoying your responses and support.

Thanks, FluffyChix. I'm 145 and have lost 101 pounds. I feel tertific, actually! I'm really pleased with my weight loss. And think I look pretty good! If I leveled out at this weight it wouldn't be the end of the world. But I agree with you that 135 would be a good weight on me. I still have quite a fat flabby belly!! Lol!

YAY congrats on being in the healthy weight range THE most important thing is you are happy with the weight you are, you know?
My mother wants me to get to 145 again BUT I am currently 176 and if I stop here I'll be happy. I am in a UK size 12 (USA size 8), I'm at the top end of healthy BMI and that is fine by me, I can move better, breathe better and look better so everyone else with their opinion on what I should weigh can bugger off
    YOU DO YOU

nope. That rule never ends - it's lifelong. Drinking too soon after eating washes the food out of your pouch (your pyloric valve has been bypassed, so there's nothing to hold the food in your stomach if you start drinking)

are you still measuring/weighing and tracking your food? If you're not, I'd consider it. I'm 4.5 years out and still have to do this - and probably will for the rest of my life. I've learned I'm not good at estimating and remembering what I ate. My weight starts heading north pretty quickly when I stop closely monitoring my food intake.

I think you should be asking about gastric bypass successes, and focus on the positive! If you adk about complications you're going to hear from the minority, myself included. I hesitate to tell you, but just 5 weeks out from bypass I developed pain when drinking or eating, and couldn't keep anything down. It felt like I had eaten a whole pizza! Turns out I had the most severe stricture the surgeon had ever seen, and lots of ulcers. It took months. And 6 dilations to fix the problem. I'm 8 months post bypass now. And am fine. I was totally unprepared for this. But had a great attitude, and just went with the flow. It's really the only thing you can do when faced with a setback.
Now, I'm praying you don't have any complications at all. I was a very rare case!!

Yup, it is your choice and I applaud you for wanting to get healthier. I was 63 when I got my bypass and it is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I have my life back! I am doing things now I never could have dreamed of a year ago. And you know what? I can eat ANYTHING I WANT! I just don't want the same junky stuff anymore! I went out to eat tonight with our staff and had a wonderful meal with lots of leftovers to bring home.
After surgery, your tastes change and as you build your new lifestyle, you will start choosing healthier options in small portions. I promise you - a year after surgery you CAN eat anything you want, but you just won't want the same foods or same portions. You will also have learned to exchange the pleasure from food with pleasure from things that are more meaningful and lasting. You will be free from the entrapment of food and the chains of always needing food to meet your emotional needs. You still have to do the hard work, but surgery is an incredible gift and tool to help you get the life back that you have lost and deserve to find again.

Wow, your psych thinks 147 is too thin for 5'4"? And she has no experience with WLS? I think you should consult your doc and/or dietician to see what they think about that. Maybe have your psych consult with them? Maybe she needs a bit of education, and it might make her a better counselor for future WLS patients.

Just my 2 cents but she obviously has no idea what your BMI is and I'm wondering if because you lost the weight quickly in her mind you have lost too much because you have shrunk so much in between the times she has seen you?
I'm 5 foot 10 and 147lb/63-65kg was my ideal weight, no one ever said I was too thin, which is what makes me wonder if her view of you is skewed because in her mind you are much heavier?
Funny that I am now 178lbs and people keep telling me I am 'tiny' (compared to 4 months ago), well the people that don't see me regular;y tell me I'm tiny because I look so different each time they see me.
Deffo see what the bariatric team say they would be more clued up on the weight and leave the head stuff to the psychiatrist. YOu are doing really well x
