Briswife15 got a reaction from benny10 in Uhhhhh!!!I'm so ready for change
Hi, benny10. I'm sorry your parents are saying that nonsense. I think the truth is that being obese increases the chances of premature death and that having surgery snd losing weight and getting healthy will increase your life span. Be brave and stay strong. We're here for you!

Here's the email I sent with the subject line "Ground Rules (so far)". I sent this email to my sisters and parents about a week and a half after surgery. My family lives far away (I'm in MN, they're in NYC, New Orleans, and Oakland) which is part of why I approached it in email.
So these will, I’m sure, be ever evolving, but just a few quick things that have occurred to me so far:

    - NO commenting on my weight loss unless I initiate. I reserve the right to be prickly about it - it’s a complex thing and if you haven’t read the Roxane gay article yet then do and I’ll keep bringing it up over and over. I will at times send you things like “wow look at the difference” or “wow this fits”. You may respond to these in a celebratory whatever way, but under no circumstances are you to initiate such discussions.

    - NO “I’m so proud of you” or “you’re a hero” or “you deserve it” or “just think about how amazing it’ll be to be ____”. It annoys me and mildly pisses me off for a variety of reasons ranging from highly legitimate to petty but still there.

    - NO “oh I’ll have liquids only in solidarity” or asking for dieting advice. I’d love to talk about cooking and food and nice meals or whatever, but my thing is bound to be enormously different from what you are doing/needing/trying and I don’t want to be treated like guru or whatever, don’t want to have to advise. Again, I may initiate this but you don’t get to. Sorry!

-FEEL FREE to ask me how I’m doing generally and check in and stuff, just keep it general and not too pointedly about weight loss.

That’s what I’ve got for now. THX!

The "Hair loss" is called Telogen Effluvium
    https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/hair-loss/effluviums#1

It's not really "Hair loss" it's just a larger % of your hair follicles going into rest at once, so when they reactivate they shed the hair they were holding and that gives the appearance of "hair loss".

Fear is normal, NSAIDs are not the only pain relief out there, there are options. Pretty much everything you've listed is normal fears, and pretty much, all of those fears, you'll laugh at down the road.

I was 370 at my largest. I'm 210 now, I have some extra saggy skin, but it's really not THAT bad and it's totally hidden under even decently tight clothing.

Just remember, staying overweight *WILL* kill you. If something was to happen during your surgery, the best place for that to happen, is in a hospital.

No one but you can tell you if what you are going to do is right for you. You have to make that call. Weigh out all the pros and cons, and make your decision based on that, no one is going to look down on you for making the best decision for your life that you can.

Briswife15 got a reaction from Jenwill630 in New here! Anyone going for surgery in January 2019??
Hi, there. I'm hoping for a January surgery date, but won't know for a month or so. I have one more nutrition visit then we can submit to insurance! In a way the 6 month period is going by quickly, and in another way it is dragging!! Excited for change and better health!

Have you tried one of those special light boxes? I hear they work, but may be pricey. May be cheaper than moving to Florida! :-)

Just a quick thought...does your surgeon actually allow sleeve patients to take NSAIDS? Mine does not allow NSAIDs for either procedure. I rely on NSAIDs, too, and will just have to suck it up and find some other pain relief. I'm having bypass because of GERD. good luck to you! I hope you get the procedure you want.

I have Anthem BCBS in Connecticut and have the same requirements. I'm not positive, but think they use your starting weight, and it is ok if you go below a BMI of 40 during your 6 months. Can you ask your surgeon's office? They deal with this all the time. I have the opposite problem. I gained 9 pounds in month 4!! Ive lost it again in month 5, but not sure if I'll get denied for the weight gain!!
