Diva302 got a reaction from Pearldrop in Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
I had a leak, at the anastomoses of esophagus and duodenum, everything I sipped or swallowed went into the abdominal cavity and I had to have a second surgery 3 days later to washout the abdomen and fix the leak, an exploratory laparotomy, and ended with 5 drains, 2 which drained abscesses and a NG tube, antibiotics for the infections... I did the research and understood DS may have great results at weight loss, but higher % of complications compared to other WLS...like the loose stools and gas..Iβm still on antibiotics but feeing better each day!

Diva302 got a reaction from Glamgirl in Duodenal switch 8 weeks post op not hungry...ughh
Glad to see Iβm not alone, I have no desire for food, and when I think I am I take a bite and itβs a turnoff, thank God for shakes, Premier shakes are a lifesaver at 30grams each, and I bought unflavored Protein Powder and add it to smoothies, for an attempt to get fruits and veggies in, Iβm trying to be creative....this too shall pass...

Will do!! I have an appt for labs in August may go sooner if Iβm feeling sluggish.. Iβve read reviews from DS patients that didnβt have an issue.. so Iβll just have to find another source to cover everything... out local hospital is Bariatric accredited Ans sells Bariatric Vitamins and foods in-house so that will bey go to !! Thanks for the heads up!! I have a month supply and will use accordingly and go from there

Oh darlin' girl, so sorry you are in this mess, but glad your care is top notch.
Rest and follow all your docs orders to a T. Just do some day dreaming about all the new exciting activities you will do once you get healed, shop online for some new dancing shoes and that party dress.
Hang in there. Prayers.

Diva302 got a reaction from Strivingforbetter in Surgery June 12!
3 months ago this was a random thought, revision surgery! Best thought I ever had, Iβm ready for 7:45 6/12...Iβve ordered the vitamin patches, tomorrow will stock up on Protein beverages, have gained so much insight from others on this forum and the Facebook page...working tomorrow till 3am then to the hospital at 5:45. Iβve lost weight since the process started, took pics and measurements today, Iβm fired up and ready to go! If I have any surgery twins letβs keep in touch and inspire and motivate each other!

Diva302 reacted to disco stu in Just had revision from Sleeve to SIPS
UPDATE: Happy to report for the last 4 days, I've lost a pound each day, so looks like the "three week stall" is a real thing, and I was a victim <grin>.
Not expecting to maintain this pace forever, but glad to go along as long as it does.

Thought I'd add a couple other observations specific to Sleeve to SIPS revision:
Compared to my VSG, the surgery and recovery for SIPS revision was a breeze. I was literally walking around a few hours after surgery and didn't feel the need to take a single pain or nausea pill afterward. Felt great the next day too. Back when I had the VSG, I slept for 3 days and was miserable. Stomach was fully bloated and entire lower portion turned an ugly black and blue a few days latter which lasted a week or so. I'm a little swollen after SIPS, but not as bad and no discoloration. Bottom line, the VSG procedure seems to be much more traumatic than the DS procedure. Given that my stomach wasn't touched, I was able to go to solid foods way faster. To be honest, I probably pushed it, but at the same time, I have yet to eat anything that's really pushed back at me (except for the need for a quick trip to the restroom). This was not the case with VSG Your milage may vary.

Diva302 reacted to Strivingforbetter in Why Duodenal VS Sleeve
I had the DS surgery on June 9, 2017. I started at 230 pounds (5'4"). I've lost 70 pounds and I'm now at a stall. This is totally my fault because I'm an emotional eater, so I've been eating too many carbs lately. I look and feel so much better, however, and have no regrets. The Vitamins aren't that bad. I chose the DS because I didn't want the regain. I certainly could have chosen the sleeve instead, but my doctor also recommended the DS.

Diva302 reacted to Glamgirl in DS after VSG
hello Diva302, I had pains the first week. just very hard to get up , but I walk as much as I could . No drains. the laparoscopic incisions were vey small and practically are gone now I am on puree foods but not hungry at all. I go to soft food class tomorrow and see what else I can eat. The liquids sucked but it was all part of it to deal with. Not only did I have the Duodenal switch but I had my gall bladder removed and a hiatal hernia repaired. so three operations were done that day and that could be why I am was extra sore.
You will do fine! Its all worth it!!! I wish for you a speedy recovery! let me know if you have any more questions

Diva302 reacted to Postop in DS after VSG
As long as it's someone who is experienced in the DS you should be good to go.
