MermaidInAZ got a reaction from Gracey1968 in Not eating soft foods yet! Exhausted and can’t get all protein in
The Protein Shakes do get old the first week, but they do help. Each doctor is different in their post-op instructions so I'm not sure how long you have to be on liquids. I know when I started with soft foods, cottage cheese and high-protein yogurt helped me get my protein. Check the Protein Shake cook book at bariatricfoodie.com, too. All the best to you!

How important was it for you to be mentally prepared for bariatric surgery as well as physically prepared?

I was lucky because I didn't have any pain in any of my incisions. Could it be the waistline on your clothes? I hope you feel better!

Critically important. The surgery fixes your stomach...not your head. If your head isn't straight you can easily make the surgery pointless.

It's going ok, I haven't taken any of the pain medication, I'm sure that would have helped but pain hasn't been that bad really. Once in a while I get a throbbing from my stomach that lasts about 5 - 10 seconds and it hurts pretty good at that point but doesn't last long. Sorry if this is TMI but I have not had a bowel movement yet, probably not totally uncommon seeing as how I only drink Protein and Water right now, this is also one of the reasons I didn't take pain meds because I'm trying to avoid any Constipation. I have to take the shots in my stomach for 8 more days but they aren't that bad, small needles. So far so good just been sore and was pretty tired the first day out.

I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time all around, but most of all for your husband's lack of support. You have to remember you're doing this for yourself; not anyone else. There are, and will be, people who want to discourage you but you just have to keep on going because it is about you, your health, and your happiness. I really hope the new doctor follows through. Let us know how it went.

I had my sleeve done on 28 Feb, too! Two whole days after my 50th birthday.

I didn't take any pain meds during my 2-week recovery. I was cleared to drive after my recovery though. Drove me crazy...(see what I did there?)

I was like clockwork before my 28 Feb surgery. Two months and counting and no period either. Going to call my GYN on Monday to make an appointment to see what's going on. I turned 50 in Feb so maybe it is menopause.

Surgery was also my last option. I don't regret it. Be patient during the first month and follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. The only negative I had was becoming dehydrated about 3 weeks ago (my surgery was 28 February 2018), but I'm doing a lot better now. All the best to you!

I'm doing solids very slowly. I have had a slice of meatloaf that my sister made and it tasted so good, LOL! And it went down easy...in 25 minutes. I'm going on 2 months post op and the next thing I'll slowly start on are fruits and veggies.

Oh you're not alone! I've thought about the same thing, too. Just picking off of the plate, getting full, and twiddling my thumbs. But the coloring sheet and crayons sounds much better, LOL!

MermaidInAZ got a reaction from debbie89 in Goal weight vs Comfortable size
Fair enough statement, but I know what and how I felt. I was working out at Curves Monday through Friday and I was hiking on Saturdays. So a lot of it was muscle. My arms were toned and "cut" as were my legs. I did have a belly, but it was flatter than now. Of course, this was also over 10 years ago. I'm 50 years old now, I have a demanding full time job and I have started walking to get to working out again. Remember that each body is different. You can have five women who are all 5'5" and weigh 160 pounds and they will all look different. Some will be "smaller" and some will be "thicker". Also, remember that I did set a goal weight this time around.

Hi hazthain. I've also kept mine secret (just told family and some of my closest friends). I felt like people scrutinized what I ate before surgery and would do even more so after to make sure I wasn't "cheating" or something. I've had a couple of coworkers comment on my weight loss and loose fitting clothes, but I just tell them that it took a medical scare to set me straight on eating right and exercising. You're not alone in keeping it a secret and I don't see anything wrong with it. Best of luck to you!

Me and the wife split Entrees most of the time. At most restaurants there is way too much food for one person anyway. Helps her consume fewer calories.
