Lots of us have regret the 1st month. Give it time, it will get better. You have just put your body through a major shock! Just take it easy & slow down your eating. Take one bite, wait 10-15 min then take another. In a couple of days shorten the time between bites. You’ll get there.

Best Calcium chews after bypass surgery
toodlerue replied to Michele 2021's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The Caltrate chewable tablets have been discontinued? What about the soft chewable ones? I just bought the soft ones because Walmart was out of the tablets. I know we shouldn’t use gummy’s. Regular Calcium pills are way to big to take anyway😹 -
Only acetaminophen unless you go to a doctor. I that ritzatriptan for migraines.

Any 45+ year old women on here with gastric bypass experience?
toodlerue replied to timmytommy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes! It’s called Vasovagal Syncope https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/vasovagal-syncope/symptoms-causes/syc-20350527 I had one a month ago & passed out from extreme pain & broke my ankle! After reading about it I realized I have had them before I just didn’t pass out but my ears were ringing & I was getting tunnel vision. (My daughter has been having them too, she had a RNY when she was 23 - she passed out in a convenient store last week!) I have noticed that I get over heated easer & my blood sugar seems to drop more. I am over 3 yrs out from RNY. -
Sounds like you are doing good. Here’s the thing about sleep apnea, it is really hard on your heart & can lead to an earlier death. Yes the mask is hard to sleep with. Your right, you can’t catch your breath through your mouth when you have air constantly pushing through your nose. You just gotta learn to keep your mouth shut when using it. It’s even hard to talk with it on. I have slept with one since about 2005. It seriously takes 2 years to get used to. I jokingly say that I sleep with it so my husband won’t hit me. He has to get up really early in the morning & he needs a good nights sleep so I learned to sleep with it for him. Now it’s hard to sleep without it.

I had RNY at 53 for medical reasons not related to obesity even through I was over weight. I lost 70 lbs in about 8 months. -

Oh my! What does your Surgon say? Sounds like they might need to got in & take a look. -
Measure out your food. At 3 weeks you should probably be having 3 oz per meal. I’m 3 years out & still measure my food at home. Eating until you are full isn’t really a good idea.
-
Then try taking the meds before you eat.
-
Did the surgeon give you any anti- nausea meds? You can try OTC Dramamine - the kind with Meclizine. I'm over 3 years out & I carry some with me at all times. I still get nauseous at times. I buy the meclizine in bulk from Amazon!

I was gonna say the exact thing that Kristieshannon said! Protien, water, walking & stool softeners. You may need a laxative or enema (If you feel like it's right there but is too hard to come out) to get things started. -
Have you vomited a lot after surgery!? My severe Hiata Hunias was caused by vomiting so much during pregnancy, I had severe Hyperemessis Gravidarium for both of my pregnancies & 3 miscarriages. I hope the omeprazole helps control your GRED. I have to take pantoprazole for the rest of my life so they won’t come back & I had A RNY.

Vitamin A supplementation
toodlerue replied to Wahinebythesea's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I use the PatchMD multi. They have 900mcg RAE which is 100% daily dose. For 3 years my vit A has been great. Vit A isn’t meausured mcg IU. It’s measured by mcg. I would ask for more clarification. -
I used Magnesium Citrate (capsules) for constipation. A naturopath started me on a combo of magnesium (citrate, malate, glycinate) last week to help with pain & getting a better nights sleep. I usually only sleep for a few hours because a different pain wakes me up every night! The 1st 2 nights I did have the best sleep I’ve had in a while!

Fingers crossed for you! You will be happy you did this! -
That is a different answer for everyone. I was told my the nutritionist provided through my insurance (Cigna) to just worry about protein for the 1st 7-8 months. Try to get 80-90 mg a day. I needed to eat high protein things like eggs, meat, cheese & to make sure I wasn’t eating high calorie things like candy bars & cookies. I had at least 1 protein shake a day.

Thank you so much for sharing. I had my surgery over 3 years ago but I love reading stories about others journey. You have done great! Congrats for being in Onederland! I would love to hear about all of the things you can do now! Stick to the basics & you will loose the weight. Don’t even think that one bite won’t hurt because before you know it it will be one bite here & there & then you will be back where you started from. You know how to eat properly now so stick with it! -

When does it get better!?
toodlerue replied to SweetCatastrophy's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Your surgery was just a few days ago. You don’t say what kind of pain you’re in if it’s from the incisions or the pain in your back from the gas. For me the gas pain in my back and shoulder last for about three weeks but that is because of some other problems that my body has. And it’s always the same no matter what kind of laparoscopic surgery that I have. Did you do a pre-op liquid diet? If you did it has been days since you have eaten any solid food. It amazes me that people think they should be having a BM a few days after this surgery. At this point you aren’t taking in much food and it’s all liquid progressing to soft food. -
I had that also last time my levels were checked. Now I just take a vitamin D supplement three times a week.
-
I think a lot of that has to do with your insurance company.

I uses Vitamin patches from PatchMD. Before bypass I had a hard time swallowing pills because they would get stuck because I also had a restriction. Now I just take so many other pills that I use the patches because they are easy. I am just over 3 years out. I have my vitamin levels checked every year. 1st year I was a LITTLE low on B12 & this past year B12 was good & I’m slightly low on D. B12 can be fixed with a shot every few months. D is no big deal. My daughter uses the chewable from BariatricPal. Her doc said they should be chewable that is going to break into a powder or like a starburst but NOT like a gummy. Talk to your doc office & see what they want you to do. Pretty much everyone should take a daily vitamin anyway.
