cammarays got a reaction from Astarisborn in Purée stage/gulping/long to eat
It started in the hospital. I got up to go to the bathroom and didn’t want to get back in the bed (I was bored) so I did a lap around the ward. I still didn’t want to get back in the bed. So I did another lap. 4 laps later I finally got tired and went back to my room. I did that until I was discharged, so I guess by the time I got home I had a tolerance for it.

I’m the same. My surgery was 5/25 and I’m a mini gulper already with no discomfort. Are you active? I’m in NYC and have been all over the city walking since I was discharged. That could have something to do with it. Lol, maybe we’re just cyborgs.

As my mom would say, some people have no home training. I would bring it up with your care team to just clear the air.

Congrats on your surgery! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
You can't expect the liquid diet to fill you up except in the very beginning when your stomach is very swollen so it takes a while for liquids to pass through. Otherwise, the liquid just shoots right through. Hunger depends on the individual. Some people have very little hunger right from the get go. Others are quite hungry and the early liquid stages are difficult for them. No one knows what camp they're in until surgery. A trick I learned from another poster - If you're hungry for something specific (especially if you just saw a savory commercial on tv) it's probably head hunger and you should try to distract yourself. If you feel hungry and any number of healthy options would satisfy, it's probably real hunger and you should eat.
Weight - You're still chock-full of hospital liquids right now. You're lucky if you're not up 5 pounds. It can easily take a couple weeks or longer for the fluids and even longer for the swelling.
Good luck, hope all goes well!

If this is what you wanted more than WLS, then congrats! Trust, you are not the first female to get pregnant directly before this process. With the guidance of your team and obstetrician, I am sure they can come up with a plan to keep you & your baby healthy during this process and you come away with a healthy baby and you are healthy mama.
This isn’t to you but I have seen a lot of women on different forums/media outlets whom become pregnant during this process. During my education of this process I was told to not use birth control 2 weeks prior to surgery and to use condoms if I had sex. I was told to also abstain from sex 6 weeks after surgery, resume birth control 30 days after surgery with the ok from my gynecologist & if I wasn’t going to use any form of birth control to try to abstain from sex during ovulation/fertile days (calendar method). Only because our bodies are going through something major and pregnancy isn’t ideal at this time. Do other people not follow this advice or did not get this advice? I am just curious.
I am 32 years old and would like to have a kid but have sucked it up that I will start trying when I am 34 so that I can hopefully be at my ideal weight and be able to have a healthy pregnancy after WLS.

Oh wow, congrats on having your surgery. I hope you have a speedy recovery. I've heard that you can lose your hunger for a while. Maybe during that time I can make sure to have other hobbies in place besides food.

I'm writing this from my hospital bed (surgery was Friday) and I'm not thinking about food anymore. It’s like that craving has been removed. Maybe it’s still very new for me—excitement maybe, adrenaline? I don’t know, I have no interest not even in my beloved coffee. This could all change on a dime, but right now I’m just going to enjoy the ride🙂

Hi there. I just had my surgery Friday. And all went well. I had no recollection of the breathing tube, just a very sexy hoarse voice for a few hours after—but it really wasn’t a problem. I’ve had no gas pain and my pain overall wasn’t more than I would feel with menstrual camps (sorry fellas).

I did ask my doctor prior to my surgery about gas and he said they do everything that they can to get most of it out. I have to believe he did because I really am not feeling anything. You will be fine. Walk around the ward when they clear you to do so—it really helps. Take care. You’ve got this!

I am in the same situation. Need the band out. Looked into both sleeve and RNY. Am going RNY because the band has given me reflux and sleeves usually exacerbate this.
