Here in the US, if you are self pay, you can get it done pretty quickly . With insurance paying, for me it was a 6 month process . Private pay you don’t have to meet a lot of the criteria that you do with insurance. Some self pay go to Mexico to have the surgery, much cheaper there.

How old are you? you have to do what is best for you. You will always have judgy and negative people in your life. You have to either ignore them or cut them out of your life. It is the only way I have stayed sane with my family members. -

The changes we don't talk about

I am almost 3 years out. I am feeling the best I have felt in many years. My only problem in life is my dear hubby of 49 years passed a year ago. My doc said to be careful, after a loss people tend to stress eat. Not me. Hang in there , life is what you make it. I will admit to buying cute clothes , I justify it with he would have wanted me to look nice. His motto was if you look good, you feel good! So true! -

I had the sleeve, I did not want my intestines rerouted. Usually the surgeon knows what is best for you according to your case, ie: gurd etc. -
I was 200

I had to be 35 BMI or they wouldn’t do me. Got down to 110, not too thin!

Do you guys feel normal? Long Term Sleevers
JacquelineC replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am one year and 4 months post op sleeve. It was rough the first few months, but now I am doing great. Never had heart burn or any complications. I still cannot eat much, which is just fine with me! I was 66 when I had surgery. Best thing I have EVER done for myself!!! Went from 200 to 116, now I even wear bikinis!!! I have so much energy! I am a cheap date now, my husband orders and I have some off his plate. Every day is a gift !! Enjoy life to the fullest!!! -
I also could not go below 35 BMI or I would be canceled day of Surgery. I did not have to do any weight loss 2 weeks before surgery. I asked the lady in charge of program if I was going to be weighed that morning naked. She said no, wear your heaviest boots and coat! After I was checked in and had IV running, nurse looked at BMI and said this is where I would be cancelled if it wasn’t 35. Had the surgery !!!

This chart is about averages. I am one year out exactly and have lost 100% of my weight! Was 200, now 122. I love this tool, but just remember, it is a tool! You have to stay compliant!

Kids' rate at Fogo de Chao
JacquelineC replied to abefroman329's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was given a card by my surgeons office and also from the hospital where I had the surgery. It says your name and that you have had WLS and that you cannot eat much. It says to let you order from the kids menu. They did tell me that not every restaurant will honor it. The kids menu is a lot of carbs! I have never had a problem using it. Sometimes I ask to speak to the manager if the waiter doesn’t understand what I am talking about. I am a year out. Now my husband orders a plate, he eats 3/4 and I eat 1/4. Sometimes I just order an appetizer. I still eat under a cup. I love my new life!!!!
