Pre-op phase, you will be fine. post op I would wait at least 2 weeks. I got surgery on May 30th, and I feel fine to attend Hardwell in NY on June 23rd.

    Omg totally!!!!

My kids are both super tall so I love that I can wear heels now (I live in 3” wedges!)

I wear shorts, I wear button up shorts, u wear fitted tees and tanks...I have a bit of a boho style most of the time though. I also do the whole althlesiure thing too, because I do yoga and run. I shop at Lululemon a lot.

I got a LOT of things at goodwill and other resale stores until I figured out my style. Great way without investing too much money!

venting so feel free to ignore. don’t get why there is such a bias against weed.
i met with the dietician and social worker today. both asked me about my marijuana usage and alcohol consumption. i said my marijuana use was down (a half lie? it is down but not as much as i said it was) but alcohol was up due to celebrating graduating college on saturday. they were both disappointed that i didn’t completely stop smoking pot, but had no problem with my drinking. they obviously want time to stop both for surgery, but didn’t seem phased about the drinking. in fact the social worker told me to “party it up” this weekend.
granted i’m not phased about the drinking either, i’m really not a big drinker, it is just up because of celebrating my graduation and will calm down after this month. but still?
i’m just venting but i really don’t understand why there is such a negative bias around pot. what’s the harm!! it’s legal here in MA!!! alcohol is worse for you!!!
again just venting so feel free to ignore this

Until it is fedrally recognized and taken off the narcotics list, it will sadly remain taboo. Post surgery my anxiety increased dramatically and I don't like the massive head fog from anti-depressants or neurological meds. I havd found doses of thc and cbd that work well to control my anxieties. I know how to measure it out for infusion and use both in my daily cooking and liquids. I prefer ingesting them than smoking.

Just have to find what works for you and learn how to properly use/dose it.

thank you so much for your response, i’m also into educating myself on more holistic and natural alternatives, though i do take anxiety medication. but for example, i will be purchasing some cbd lotion and oil for post op, i refuse to take any painkillers. cbd and all forms of marijuana are legal here in MA and i don’t see why i cant use that to my advantage. i prefer it over drinking, which quite frankly is 10x worse for you and i don’t understand why it’s such a taboo subject.

The pill is fine to take after the sleeve surgery because there is no malabsoprtion with the sleeve. Surgery does not and did not change it’s effectiveness when I had my sleeve 7 years ago. I resumed it and was just fine.
But now that i am a revision of sleeve to bypass I may have to change my birth control from pill to something else I do not ingest because there is malabsorption with the bypass.

@alleamarie they only want me off birth control for the surgery because of my BMI and risk of blood clots, that’s the only reason. i’ll resume taking it again after. IUD/implant freaks me out so i’ll stick with the pill if they let me but i’m not sure if the sleeve will change pill absorption or anything. i’m hoping that i can stop my metformin though, i have the WORST shits with it, even though i’ve been on it for years. never went away. i never took it because of that, but when i decided i wanted surgery i figured it would be best to take all my prescribed medications so i started it again and still have the same issue. though my blood work hasn’t changed whether i’ve been on or off it (like my glucose level or whatever) so i’m hoping that just losing weight will allow me to get off of it

I too have PCOS and was worried about stopping my birth control for a six weeks due to surgery.
i am 4 weeks post op and start my birth control tomorrow. I had my period during surgery and 3 weeks later I got it again which was right on time! I was surprised that I was regular. And I have been on birth control for 10 years.
My birth control doesn’t affect my weight which is good. It never has. I hope it does not make me gain once I start it tomorrow. I did have a stall the week of my period though; the stall broke 2 days after my period ended

One thing that I lost as I gained weight was the ability to have self expression through my fashion choices. I can’t wait to walk into any store and be able to find clothes that fit. I’m only a little over a month out of surgery, so the weight is only beginning to fall off. I’m already excited to be able to wear things that are “me” rather than choose from the few available options.

I feel your pain!...I am having my surgery on June 12th. To lose the weight the dr wanted I drank two Premier Protein shakes every day and ate dinner with my family. It worked and then it was easier to slip into the liquid pre-op diet by cutting out the meals and adding one or two more shakes and some broth. I’m now down 30lbs and ready for surgery!... I also asked about why when it’s so hard do I have to lose ...he said it’s so they can move around easier inside with the liver shrinking prior to surgery or something like that ...it helped me to not be so angry about having to lose weight to have weight loss surgery! Good luck keep up and it will work!

Pre-surgery I never smoked and definitely stopped drinking... but post surgery, once I was where I needed to be I added in a glass of red wine here and there, but it definitely hit me a lot harder post surgery.. so it is very seldom that I do that. I was just shy of 2 years post op last December when my anxiety began to get so much worse and I was having panic attacks, I usually combat that by trail running...but even that wasn't helping. SO, I began exploring making my own cannabutter and from there used that and made healthy edibles (which I still make and use). I do smoke once in a while, but it is all for medicinal purposes.
I definitely understand quitting all of that pre-surgery as it can help lead to ulcers and other post-op issues that nobody wants to deal with. I think everyone handles their anxiety, depression, and other stuff in their own ways. My goal is to not add to my plethora of Vitamins and supplements I take daily, so it was important to explore more holistic options for handling my rising anxiety. I found a dosage that works for me and I have felt so much better in the past 6 months.
I am working towards my MPH to be a registered dietician in my state so I can help bariatric patients long term, the lack of long term support and education kinda drives me nuts. So I am looking forward to working with the local weight loss clinics in my small forest town to set up a positive environment for patients to ask questions and get any help they may need,

I'm going to go with no. You *might* be ok before surgery, you'll just need to take extra care with your fluids and energy usage, but if you are smart you should be ok *Before* surgery. After, you are going to want a few weeks before you start exposing yourself to that level of overall stress.

I don't recommend going the week after surgery as getting enough fluids and nutrition is difficult under normal circumstances and impossible while standing in the sun all day - you would likely pass out. I think you could manage it in the pre-op stage.

It’s 2018 and medical marijuana is legal in 30 states. It’s time to get over stereotypes and the notion that “pot is bad”.

There are thousands of strains of marijuana, all of which effect people differently. Indica and sativa are totally different with different effects. Cannabinoids can be consumed in a number of ways that don’t involve smoking.

OP - I asked my doc about MJ as I regularly take edibles to help me sleep and he said it’s fine. I don’t like narcotics and it’s helped with the pain as well.

this is what i was thinking of doing. i know my surgeon changes the pre-op diet requirements on a patient to patient basis so i’m not sure what my requirement will be time wise, etc but i was thinking maybe doing 2 shakes a day at least? to get started?

i guess perhaps i’m caught in between a mental spot of “do i really want to start shakes now when i have another month to *enjoy* myself” or “do i take care of myself and quit that childish attitude because i’ll still be able to eat food after surgery it’ll just be different?”

sorry if that doesn’t make sense, my head is all over the place lately.

well the celebration is over now so it has been easier. i’ve been looking at my macros as well and i’m meeting them give or take a few % on either side. slowly cutting out Pasta and replacing it with protein pasta/pasta alternatives has actually been pretty easy! love veggies and fruit so that isn’t the hardest part. it’s probably exercise which right now is at about 30 min a day but i’m working my way up slowly. just feeling really discouraged all around.

I had to lose 10% of my excess body weight as part of my program. They gave me a few simple guidelines to help with this (my program doesn't use a liquid diet, but instead opts for a slower approach to shrinking the liver with low carb):
No more than 60 grams of net carbs per day
Watch your liquid calories (no soda and everything should be sugar free)
Start with your Protein, then eat your veggies, THEN if you have room 1 fruit or a quarter cup of whole grain starch.
Worked like a charm and I'm down about 20 lbs.

the last time i had an edible it really messed me up, made me dizzy and everything. classic case of “this isn’t working so i’m going to eat more” and it all kicked in times 100 an hour later. i ended up being fine but i was think it was prob cause i was hydrated/ at home. i think something even like the environment of being a crowd could have something to do with it. I wouldn’t worry about it though. potency prob just hit you harder than you expected with your smaller stomach + dehydrated
