I drove three days after surgery. My doc said I could drive when off pain meds.

saygrace reacted to TakingABreak in Loose jiggly skin -- what do I have to look "forward" to?
You know, I think it honestly just depends. My neck was HUGE....I had no neck at all. I’d feel choked just sitting upward...my apnea’s were over 120 per hour, but I have no loose skin on my neck. I have the tiniest bit of a fat pocket left. And my stomach was huge as well, I thought surely my skin would hang below my pubic bone, because my fat does. I still have a ways to go, so maybe once the fat is gone and it’s just skin, I’ll feel differently, but right now it’s actually shrinking upwards.

hey guys! i was just reading through my booklet from the hospital and it says that they recommend no driving until you’ve had your post-op appointment which is 7-10 days after surgery. now that should be fine and i’ll follow whatever they tell me to, but i’ve never heard this before so i’m just wondering what the general consensus on this is? I’m only taking a week off of work (I nanny, so i’m not really stressed about “going back to work” since it’s easy and i don’t do much, but still?)

You can't drive after any major surgery. All surgeries have different time lines. 7 to 10 days sounds about right for this surgery.

Typically, most seem to recommend that one can drive once one has been off of narcotic pain relievers for a day or two. I didn't drive much the first week or so as my wife was around and she liked to play "mother", but I drove the couple hours to the 10 day follow up appointment without any issue (she doesn't do mornings well!)

not sure if my comment will be “valid” as i haven’t had surgery yet, but i can’t wait to be able to dress more edgy. i don’t have the confidence currently to wear the sort of semi-goth, edgy look that i’m into, but i can’t wait to be able to wear that. i’m talking super ripped mom jeans with a crop top that meets the high waist, shorts that will show off my tattoos, sheer shirts with a cute bralette, etc. and i absolutely cannot wait to share clothes with one of my friends. she’s a size 14 and dresses freakin adorable in the perfect preppy teacher way (so i clearly fall on both sides of the fashion spectrum) and can’t wait to wear both.

Thank you! It really hasn't been that bad, I just always get hungry in the afternoon. I'm allowed unlimited non-starchy veggies so cucumbers with a little vinegar and salt have been a lifesaver. Good luck on your liver diet, you can do it!

I don't think they have us do this diet so we can shrink our liver. I think it's so we can get used to our stomachs hurting so damn much from hunger. LOL. Today is the end of week 1 with another to go. It's been OK but dealing with it every day is getting REAL Old REAL Fast.... Good luck to all of you and do your best to stick with it. WE can do it!!!!!

You’re reading an awful lot into some very simple questions. I posted what I posted so that apositivelife4me could think about the “whys”.
Any judgement or ridicule is projected by you and not intended by me.
I wrote that it was rhetorical because the answers are not my business or in any way related to my path.
I meant absolutely no harm nor did I wish to engage anything other than some introspective thought.
You read negativity where none was intended. I don’t own your frame of reference.

yeah that’s what i’ve been trying to do now! i’ve been planning and packing Snacks when i know i’m gonna hang with my friends and it’s made things much easier.

i’m also hoping that age will play into not having as much loose skin, but in a perfect world i’d want to lose 200lbs so i think i’m gonna have loose skin no matter what. it kind of sucks because there are so many tattoos that i want and haven’t gotten because i’m afraid if i get skin surgery they’ll be removed! lol!

saygrace reacted to TakingABreak in Some questions about eating in the future
    1) I know a lot of sleevers who eat sweets and “junk food” again after surgery. I’d suggest being close to goal or at goal. However, lots of people say that they have trigger foods that they know they can’t reintroduce because it’s a slippery slope. Your taste buds may change too, you may not enjoy or crave those things post op.
    2. Chewing your food to a purée, yes or no? I don’t even notice anymore. Muscle has memory and it’s second nature to me now. It’s habit and I don’t even think about it. Once you get food stuck once or twice, you just learn that chewing is a lot easier than suffering through discomfort or having to throw up for relief.
    3. Yes, liquids typically don’t provide restrictions. Soups are slider foods for me and I can eat a lot more. If it’s not a hearty Soup, I could easily eat a cup-cup and a half. That being said, I still can’t drink large amounts in one sitting like I could before. I don’t feel restriction like food, but discomfort almost.
    4. It doesn’t take me a long to eat. I usually am the first done because I eat so little. They say you should take 20-30 mins to finish a meal, but that’s always been hard for me. I still eat fast. I’m lucky that I don’t overeat like some have described as a result of not taking your time. It truly does take your brain 30 mins to catch up and send those “full” signals. I still measure out all food. As far as “eating a good amount”, id say no, if your restriction is what it’s supposed to be, you won’t be able to. And one component as to why this surgery works.
    5. Very safe. It’s not like you live on 500 calories the rest of your life. Many people get back up to healthy calorie amounts. What people don’t realize is that you end up eating what a normal adult (based on gender, size ect) should eat. I eat approx 1200 calories. Someone of my gender and height, really shouldn’t eat more than that. You do have to take Vitamins for life, but it’s a small price to pay for this life changing, this beautiful gift.

Please feel free to ask any follow up questions!

I’m wondering how to go about this too. I’m only 22 and haven’t been with anyone for like 3 years now. i think it also depends what your sexuality is. for some reason, i am much more shy and insecure when it comes to guys i’m attracted to, but girls that i’m attracted to, i can be confident and myself. It’s a weird place to be at because so much of modern dating is advertising yourself and that’s hard to do. for instance, my tinder bio reads
“22, interior architecture & design // live music // feminist

ill be hot in a year so give me a chance”

mean? maybe... but if you know me, self deprecating humor is my go to “coping” or ~preventative~ mechanism. and i’ve only had one person message me and ask what that’s supposed to mean. most of the people messaging me don’t acknowledge it, though i’m sure it would be different if i actually talked and went on dates with some of these people. it usually doesn’t go further than tinder messages because i’m just shy and insecure. which i need to get over but it’s hard to do! i know if someone is taking the time to “like” me back and message me, it’s genuine, but that 12 year old voice can’t get out of my head saying “it’s a joke they’re just gonna show their friends your pictures and laugh and call you names!!”

saygrace got a reaction from Frustr8 in concert either after surgery/ during pre op liquid diet?
    hey guys

i don’t have a date yet for my surgery, but it will be some time in late july. if it does fall around this time, then it’s the same time as a concert i want to attend (warped tour) which is an all day festival like concert.
i was wondering if you guys thought it would be okay for me to go if it’s during my pre-op phase (in terms of “stamina” i suppose- could i last all day on the pre-op diet or is that too hard) or the other side of that being a week or so after surgery, would it be too strenuous to go and be standing in crowds, being in the sun all day, etc. the concert is either july 15 or july 27 (i could attend it in CT or MA, as i live in MA). again, i don’t have a date for my surgery yet but late july most likely

Wouldn’t do either. Don’t risk the surgery by going before - you’ll be miserably hungry and irritable lol. After- no way possible.

Skip it and go next year— this is worth it!

At the seminar I attended, someone asked about weed after surgery (I was like omg thank you) and my surgeon shrugged and said it would be recreationally legal soon (I’m in NY) and it’s different than cigarette smoke so it’s not as harmful and doesn’t run as big a risk for reflux or ulcers! He said he doesn’t encourage it, but that his patients who do smoke post-op have said they don’t even get the munchies anymore! I thought that was so fascinating and had to share haha
