I’m just posting this in case anyone searches this thread and is looking for info. I had my sleeve done 5/15 and I was using a cup. BAAAADDDDD IDEA. When they inserted a catheter (which I was told they wouldn’t during the operation), it pushed the cup up further than its ever been before. It was a nightmare to get out. They had to remove the catheter earlier than they wanted to, and I spent at least an hour trying to dig the thing out, because it was lodged and going on 18 hours in there. That is zero fun post op . My recommendation - ask for pads and do NOT use a cup.

When I was Keto (which you likely are with that kind of Protein intake), my cycle was HEAVY. Like murder scene every day for 8 days heavy. It’s something about estrogen being released and giving you the bad period. I hope it stops for you before surgery day!

Had my procedure (RNY) on December 14, 2017, will officially be 5 months po next week. I have lost a total of 74 lbs. Completely ecstatic to finally make it to 1nderland. The last time I was under 200 lbs was when my daughter was 10 months old, she's now 8 going on 9.

I’m May 15! Getting SO EXCITED but totally over this full liquid diet [emoji849]. I feel like I “ate” too much today but it was 3 shakes, 2 cups of broth, 2 Decaf herbal teas, a cup of SF pudding and popsicles. And roughly 60 gallons of water... (not really but you get the idea).

Is anyone able to drink caffeine right now? I am a caffeine ADDICT and the headaches and withdrawals are not for the faint of heart. [emoji30]

People seem to fall into two camps on this one.
Camp A.....absolutely NEVER cheat! You're flirting with disaster! Tough love...you are going to throw your gift away and you will be sorry. Why would you work so hard to sabotage yourself? What were you thinking?
Camp B....if you can't prove you can set a limit, eat a sane amount of a treat and walk away, food still controls you. You haven't won. Life is about compromise. You should allow yourself to enjoy treats once in a while within reason.
I think there's some wisdom in both of these ideas.
You want to be really careful with foods that can trigger reckless eating. You want it to be your idea to indulge...and not let the food or food situation control you. Too much indulgence can be a slippery slope.
But fundamentally...I'm a Camp B person. I don't usually get my own desert, but I will pretty regularly take a bite or two of my husband's. I eat a truck ton of carbs....but they're not white anymore...everything is whole grain and low glycemic. I let myself have treats, but I try to put thought into it, plan for it...and not do it on impulse anymore.
I try to live with balance. It's tough. Sometimes you fall off the beam. LOL. Just keep getting back on. If you notice a pattern where you are out of control...address it.
Awesome idea to see the therapist for extra examination of this issue:)

The gas is CO2..... it will diffuse through the peritoneum (lining the abdomen) into your blood stream. This takes some time and the dissolved CO2 in the form of carbonic acid can be irritating and can cause pain under the diaphragm or deferred pain into shoulders.
Walking helps the breakdown process, and helps work gas bubbles to the peritoneum so diffusion can begin.
The narcotics you'll be on right after surgery generally slow your gut down and you won't fart for a day or two. Laparoscopic gas doesn't leave through your intestines anyway....it is metabolized out in your blood.
Big deep breaths help. Walking helps because it promotes increased respiration...which will help.
"Gas" sounds like burps and farts...but it's not in this case.

I just wanted to start a thread, in case anyone has questions about the process, for someone who is actively going though it, while it’s fresh in my mind.
It’s like I blinked and it was over. I am in very minimal pain, and not even experiencing many of the issues with gas we all hear so much about.
I was so nervous, and emotional, and here I am on the other side! I want to help anyone who could use some insight

I am still doing some pre-op clearance work and hope to be sleeved in April. I can totally appreciate those who choose to keep this a secret. Life is hard enough with out other people judging you and we have all already had enough judgement for being fat.
But I think I am going to go the other way on this one. . . . I am planning on telling EVERYONE. So far the reactions have been mixed, but the stigma of weight loss surgery will not go away if we all stay in the dark.
Me and my sleeve are out of the closet!

I am in the research phase. I have found RESOUNDING positive reviews, and even someone I know that had tremendous complications does not regret the surgery and would do it again. I am excited but I also want to look at other view points - who isn’t happy with this? Is there a source out there for people unhappy with the results, people who have lots of regain? I don’t want to talk myself out of this but I certainly want to look at all angles.
I’m also concerned about the high rates of depression after surgery, and the high divorce rates in the first 2 years. Those both concern me.

I had surgery exactly one week ago and have lost 10 lbs. This is definitely the fastest I have ever or will ever lose weight. LOL It slows down from here big time. The first week after surgery should be called the Golden Week. Haha.

I did, thanks! It sounds like it’s mostly my surgeon’s requirements that may take some time, but TRICARE seems to be likely to approve it according to what I’m seeing. That board is a wealth of knowledge.

amisoup reacted to naturallyzee in Disney World......My Non-scale Victoty
So.. I'm just getting back from a week at Disney with my four year old daughter and hubby. So cliche, but we had a Magical Time. The last time I was there was approximately 15 years ago. I weighed around 250+. Since then, I had gained about 80 pounds. Well, I had RNY on March 8, 2017. (The best decision of my life.) I've since lost over 100 pounds. Today, I'm down to 193.4 from 292 on surgery day.
Anyway, back to my story. My first victory came on the plane. I was able to use the seat belt without an extender. You talk about excited. I didn't take the seat belt off even when the sign was off. I had extra room in my seat. After landing in Sanford/Orlando I thought wow, I don't have to turn sideways to get through the aisle. We then had to walk a long distance to get to Alamo rental cars. My husband was lagging behind and huffing and puffing. I could only think that would have been me just a year ago. I had to switch seats on the plane with my daughter because my husband was spilling over into my seat and not the other way around.
Now to the hotel. We didn't go anywhere that day. We just rested. When I took my shower I was able to wrap a regular sized towel completely around my body without gaps and things hanging out. I must have walked around in that towel for 2 hours. Actually I did this every day. Who ever thought a towel could bring so much joy.
On to Disney World......well the first day there we arrived around 10:00 AM and left about 10:00 PM. It was amazing. I was able to walk around for hours without being tired or in pain. By the end of the night I felt a little pain but nothing compared to before. My husband and daughter ate several times while we were there. I never ordered anything for myself. I knew I wasn't going to eat much. I just ate from their plates. This is a victory because #1 I saved us money and #2 Usually I would have ordered an entire meal and a sugary soda. (I haven't had a soda in 2017). I was able to do this for several days without the usual tiredness. The only thing I needed was Water. The second day my husband was too tired to go back to Disney. I went right back and stayed another 8 hours. I was also able to walk around the outlet mall for hours without needing to stop and rest. I brought new bras in a 36 C. Down from a 42 DD. They were actually sexy bras.
Now the rides. I remember riding things at Disney 15 years ago and not being afraid. Somehow I had convinced myself that I was afraid of rides. Before we left I told my family that I was going to ride every ride no matter how scary they were. I was going to ride just because I could fit in them. Now I know it was a fear of not being able to fit on the rides. I road several rides, even the kiddie rides with my daughter. I had room to spare. I was able to jump in and out of the rides like a little kid. It felt amazing.
I made fairly decent food choices while i was there. I must admit I took a bite or two of some things I shouldn't have but I was able to stop after those bites. It didn't affect anything though. I still lost 2.6 pounds this week. Yay me. Tomorrow its back to my usual healthy living.
My daughter hugged and thanked me a million times. She was able to get those tiny arms around my waist. No better feeling that that. I almost forgot I willingly took several pictures. I also wore a strapless dress and romper while there.
Sorry for the long post and the rambling. I was about to bubble over. I had to tell someone.
