Time it takes to eat food

It takes about 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain it is full. I try to st my food down between bites. This make me slow down a little. Also cut up your string cheese knowing you can eat 1/4 of it every 10 minutes. Our bodies are used to mindlessly eating. Sit down and concentrate on chewing each bite. Not always easy, but we are retraining ourselves. I have found if I eat slower I have less gurgling and less gas afterwards. Best of luck to you.

    3 days post-op questions

Yes. I had this. I found it was less if I just had ice chips and sugar free popsicles. I let them slowly melt and then swallow tiny sips. After a week it started getting better and much better after 2 weeks. You probably have swelling. Just take your fluids slowly. Good luck.
  3. Remember you cannot take care of others if you do not take care of yourself. I too have been struggling. I just posted a sign on my desk that says. "You matter, take care of yourself." This is reminding me that my health and wellbeing is important. I then went back to all of the reading material that prepped me for surgery. I did the protein and water for a week and then back to my original post surgery eating plan. I'm keeping it simple and packing all of my food and snacks the night before. Even on high stress days, I can only eat what is in my bag. If I need to stress eat, I grab almonds or another protein. It's not easy, but I am worth it and so are you.

    Major buyers remorse😭

The first week is the worst. I only sucked on ice chips the first week. Everything was painful and I could not take pain meds because they would come back up. The second week I lived on ice chips, popsicles and warm chicken broth. For some reason water was too painful. By the 3rd week, I think the swelling went down and I was finally able to drink water. Just keep an eye on your fluid intake. If you notice you are getting dehydrated call your surgeon. I no longer have buyers remorse.

    Need some advice

I was exactly this way at 8 months. I pulled out all of my nutrition notes and acted like I was prepping for surgery. I did protein shakes and fluids for 1 week and then started back to eating small meals again choosing protein first and no bread. This helped reset my mind again. This is a journey, not a sprint. WE will fall down. Just pick yourself up and try, try again. You can do this!! Remember you are worth it!!

    One Month Breakdown

You are not alone in your feelings. Many of else have felt the same. I needed to learn how to live with food and not think of it as entertainment. Food is fuel. I went to a psychologist to help me work towards this new relationship. This was very helpful and insightful to me. That being said, I have found some foods that help me not feel deprived. I love sugar free big sticks. They sell them at Stater Brothers and Walmart. Their consistency is perfect and they count as fluid.
  7. I didn't start losing until after 3 weeks and then it was really slow. by the third month something kicked in and weight started falling off. I think our bodies go into shock and need to readjust to our new eating and attitude.

    Required Vitamins

I am really enjoying BariMelts. They taste good and dissolve in my mouth or I can chew them.

    Depression and anxiety

I also find that writing my feelings in a journal helps. It helps release my anxiety and I can't eat while I'm writing.

    Depression and anxiety

The best thing I do for me is see a psychologist. She has helped me be prepared to better deal with stress and the changes I am going through.

    Weight gain

I'm going back to basics with the new year. I didn't gain, but I did indulge myself and now I need to keep my healthy habits going. I did my walk early this morning and I am on my 4th glass of water. I am caring for myself again. I am worth the effort. 🐵
  12. WE all lose at our own rates. Try not to compare yourself to others. Mine was so slow in the beginning. I was doing everything right and I didn't think it was working. Just keep at it. It does work and you will lose weight. Our bodies need to adjust to our new attitudes and habits.
  13. Mine is my left hip. I have had it since a month after my surgery (May) and still have the numbness. it is fine if I lie on my left side. When I lay on my right side I feel pins and needles all over. I have lost 90 lbs now so I'm not sure weight loss will help. It seems to have made it more noticeable.

    Frustrated

It gets much easier. I will say going to a psychologist was the best thing I could have done for me. I am now looking at food as fuel, not entertainment. I am also saving money since I'm not ordering so much. My have a foodie family that loves going out, but we are learning to share items and actually taste our food instead of shoveling it and wondering where it went. Best of luck on your journey.

    Support and honesty needed

I had surgery in April and it has not been easy, but it is the best thing ever. I was constantly losing weight and putting it back on and more. My husband was scared for my surgery, but I turned him around by explaining the process. I had 6 months with a nutritionist prior to surgery and saw a psychologist too (this was the most helpful). I am down 90 lbs with mostly walking. I have only thrown up once, but it was from eating an overly sweet dessert. I have a bunch of foodies in my house, I now just eat a little form their plates when we go out or I order a small appetizer. My back no longer hurts (I was considering back surgery), I am no longer diabetic and no longer have high blood pressure. I finally told myself I deserve to be taken care of and I did and continue to do the homework. Good luck on your journey whatever you decide.

VSG is 1/8, pre-op diet starts on 1/1

Best of luck to you. It's the best decision I've made. This has helped my knees and back.

    Protein shakes...

I used premiere prior to surgery and switched to unjury after surgery. I found I do the best with Classic chocolate with almond milk mixed in the shaker bottle. It seems to go down the easiest. I started with unjury's sample pack to see which flavor I liked. Mixing them in a blender seems to froth them up too much and then I can't get them down. Unjury is actually specially made for bariatric surgery and is more easily digested than some of the others. Try different shakes until you find one that works for you. Best of luck on your journey.
  18. If you are not drinking enough water or eating enough protein, you may be hungry. If you are drinking and eating enough, it may be head hunger. I actually went to a psychologist to help learn how to deal with my head hunger and cravings. I highly suggest having a support system. After WLS we need to adjust our relationship with food. Best of luck to you.
  19. I think they have a free trial so you can see if you like it.

1 week post op liquids questions

I was on 2 weeks of clear fluids. Along with my water, I used popsicles, jello and chicken broth. I added unjury unflavored protein to my water and broth.
  21. In the beginning I would get a big cup of ice and slowly sip it as it melted. This way I didn't cramp or take sips bigger than my swollen stomach could handle. It gets much better after the first week and then each week afterward.

    Favorite protein powder

Yes, they are great for when you're in a hurry. I highly suggest ordering their starter kit: https://www.unjury.com/unjury-starter-kit.html then you can try the flavors and see what you prefer.

    Favorite protein powder

Prior to surgery I loved premiere protein ready to drink. I can barely stomach them after surgery. I suggest getting different samples or starter packs form different brands. I ended up really liking Unjury Protein Powder. Your taste buds change after surgery so this one wasn't as sweet or thick.

    New to the app.

You are probably eating too fast. If I eat quickly and do not chew each bite 40 times, I feel like I swallowed a ball. Take your time and chew everything to almost liquid.
