I did not have a slipped band and had zero issues getting approved for a revision surgery. The way my surgeon was talking is that the band is considered "failed" if you haven't lost sufficient weight.

Me too!! It was a relief to not have that port under my skin any longer. I lost more in my first week with my DS than I did the entire time I had my lap-band. That was such a stinkin' waste of money. I have absolutely no regrets with my DS.

Congrats! I was so friggen happy to get rid of that torture device. So happy to get rid of the port and the aches and pains that it gave me.

    You’re gonna love your SIPS!

I had a lap-band placed in 2006. Lost about 50 lbs, then gained it all back and more. In recent years, had all sorts of problems and just wanted it out. While looking into getting it out, learned that I could do a revision and was told about SIPS.
Anyway, the first evening after surgery ( yesterday 2/14/18), I was mostly groggy and didn’t eat or drink much. Other than feeling a little crampy, not experiencing any major pain at all. I’m sure the IV is probably loaded with pain killers.
Currently, I’m sitting up and I’ve written out cards for my husband to mail, banged out more work on my dissertation as I’m going to do a virtual meeting with my advisor in about 30 minutes, and I’ve managed to get Breakfast and lunch down.
I feel really good, although my doctors said it took over 5 hours! He said that I had a ton of adhesions from a prior hysterectomy and the lap-band, so he had to clean that all the up.
I will spend another night in the hospital and hope to go home on Friday.
    Yay! It’s done!

Like your nom de plume Pepsipants. There were times when mine should have been "Yeah I got room for that." But I am trying to be a reformed chubby-dub, trying to turn into slim Chicky. Baby. Hmm maybe at my age I should settle for Svelte Hen? Chicky Baby may not come in a 72 year old model.

Have had a lapband for 6 yrs. over the last year I have gained back about 35 lbs and also have developed a hiatal hernia that is causing minor issues as of now. My dr said I qualify for the sleeve bc of the hernia and numerous health issues . I’m 56 I’m looking to hear others experiences of. going from band to sleeve such as recovery, difficulty, regrets if any etc. I really want to be sure I’m doing the right thing. On a side note my family and friends think it an extreme thing to do bc I’m now only 35 overweight. But I know I’ll blink and I’ll be 50 over and then 60 and before I know it I’ll gain it all back it’s just a matter of time. I’m scared but tired of the pain and problems I’ve had from a lifetime struggle with obesity so I’m open just as I was with band. Any advice or sharing is very appreciated. tIa

Hello...I had my gastric sleeve on 1/19 also...I'm afraid to get on the scale but I feel like I'm at a stall. I find the joy in seeing my weight loss in my clothes now so that keeps me encouraged...I struggle with old cravings, I'm able to comfortably eat fat free refried Beans, mashed potatoes, egg salad, finely chopped ground beef mixed in small amount of cheese sauce/salsa. But I can't consume much, a few teaspoons at a time then quit . I'm not getting all my Protein in but my liquid intake has increased praise God and the hunger pains are decreasing. I think my weakness is wanting to still eat my normal foods before time but at a smaller portion but I know in due time it's coming. I'm going to start exercising in the morning on the treadmill so hopefully that will help me also. Im not experiencing any pain, problems praise God but it seems like my stomach looks inflated one minute goes down the next lol....Well I pray everyone's journey be a beautiful success. Let's continue keeping each other encouraged and posted

Don't be in any rush to weigh, you might still have surgical Water weight in there. Just keep getting your fluids in and walking for exercise. Maybe towards the end of the month weigh yourself. Too early in your journey to have the Coulda Woulda Shoulda's land, just keep on healing up.

My surgeon has the same pre- & post-op instructions for all surgeries whether is a sleeve, gastric bypass, traditional DS or single-anastomosis DS.
pre-op: 2 weeks Clear liquids with 3-4 30-gram Protein shakes. shakes must be made with powdered Protein, no pre-made shakes ever.
post-op: week 1, Clear Liquids only
    weeks 2 - 4 clear liquids plus Protein Shakes (sleeve 3 shakes/day, DS & bypass 5 shakes/day)
    weeks 5 & 6 puree
    weeks 7 & 8 soft foods
week 9 start introduction of regular foods
I think I've seen only one other person post that a surgeon with a similar severely restrictive program.

Just had the SIPS last month, I was already sleeved but needed my gallbladder out and since I was there...SIPS. 3 weeks post op, down 20lbs. Still on pureed diet. I have a longer common channel, but poo is still WAY stinky and loose. Has anyone managed to have solid poos again?

Hi, just wanted to chime in. I’m also in my 20s, just turned 25 last month...I agree with someone else who posted here, you should look into the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, initially I was dead set on having bypass, and my surgeon told me that by all means I could have it, but he also urged me to look into the sleeve because I’m young, and bypass does have some possible complications that the sleeve doesn’t, and *in his words* I have a lot of living left to do, so, if by chance I had those complications I would have a long time to have to deal with them...and after I did my research I felt just like he did. So I decided to go with the sleeve...both the sleeve and bypass are great tools for weight loss. Take your time and consider all of your options before you decide which surgery, or even whether or not to have surgery at all. As far as BMI goes the lowest I’ve heard get approved through insurance was 35(with health issues associated with being overweight)..definitely look into that aspect of this as well. We’re all here to be of help and support to you. Good luck!!

I have to agree with others that knowing the real results of the band I would never steer someone that way and then sleep at night.
Look into all your options, read the studies and make an informed decision, i for one wish i'd just done RNY to begin with.

I don't know why people get weird about it. I have just told my boss because of being off and my immediate family. Some said I shouldn't do it but I told them I would rather do it than die in 10 years or less with my BP issues. That usually shuts them up [emoji3] do what makes u happy 🤗

My brother and husband know and about 3 choice friends. I haven't even told my bestie because she freaks out every time she hears someone mention wls - someone's relative like 20 years ago had nasty complications and it's stuck in her head. It's no one's business. My boss knows I had surgery and wished me well. I told a few coworkers I had a hiatal hernia and am using the recovery period to work with my dietitian (who I started seeing last summer in the pre-op period, but they don't know that's the reason) to completely rework my eating habits so I can continue to lose weight post surgery. That's not completely a lie..... Even when I checked into the hospital - I ran into one of my husband's friends whose wife was having surgery same day. I don't know what she had, she doesn't know what I had. We just text to ask how recovery is going. My medical choices are mine and no one's business.

I'm getting the SIPS surgery on 2/14, and I'm planning to stay low key about this as well. My husband and mom know. I will not be telling anyone else at all, maybe my kids, but not now. This is a tool that helps us to ultimately do what everyone else does that successfully loses weight and that is to eat less and exercise more. I personally don't think I have to insert for the world that, oh yeah, I got sleeved. Anyone asks me about how I'm losing weight, I'm literally telling them that I'm eating less and exercising more.
