So I’m two weeks post-op and had no major complications, just had gas pain first week. This morning I woke up choking on bile and had to run and spit it up, my throat is on fire as well. I just realized that I must of accidentally rolled on to my stomach, but I’m not sure how long I was sleeping on it. Has this happened to anyone and what did you do?

Omeprazole - take daily as directed for a few months post op.
my surgeon starts this 1 month pre op then 2 months post.

Happen to me too now I sleep with 3 pillows it really helps

Sit up or prop yourself up in bed. Start sipping Water gently to reduce the acid" fire' in your throat. My grandmotherly advice would be to sip a little milk to set t le things down or take a Tums, if you're still feeling miserable after the sun rises, call your doctor's office and check in with them.❤and a Hug!

If your throat is burning it might be reflux. Lying flat allows that acid to wash back up to your throat.

I had the sleeve dec 14th. I've always had gerd and it is WAY worse now. I had an upper gi yesterday to make sure nothing major was wrong. Anything I eat or drink comes right back up into my esophagus. It's super painful

My surgeon told me it depended on the type of reflux. I had bile in my stomach from a weak valve between my stomach and intestines. Losing weight wasn't going to fix it and the sleeve would make it worse. I had to do the rny . I was disappointed, but I had enough time to get used to it. If my reflux was just my stomach acid and my belly pushing it up, we could have done the sleeve, but not with bile in my stomach. They'll have to do the egd to tell what type of reflux you have.

It's just acid reflux. Try sleeping propped up a little at night and ask for a PPI, omeprazole or prilosec, sometimes it's tricky finding the right one. Sometimes rapid weight loss cause this and your gall bladder can act up with rapid weight loss as well.

They contacted me at the last minute to come in yesterday after having the authorization escalated. I ended up having surgery 5:30pm instead of 10am but I’m truly grateful. I’m in the hospital now having a lot of gas pain which is expected but the surgeon advised the surgery went beautifully. I found out this afternoon that my surgery is most likely going to be rescheduled for another day because my Authorization was canceled! My lovely coordinator from OBAND never updated the surgery date with United Healthcare. I literally ate a bunch of junk food and cried myself to sleep. My blood pressure went up so high I ended up waking up with a massive headache. They told me to still show up to the hospital and see if a miracle happened and I get a new authorization .

Keep us posted. I hope everything works out okay. I can't imagine how upset you are feeling. I know I would be. Hang in there.

That’s horrible! That is a major mistake. I cannot begin to imagine how you feel. I’m so sorry this happened to you. And, what a suggestion...to show up and hope the new authorization comes through. That’s anxiety-producing. Be kind to yourself (warm baths, nice music, candle/diffuser, and positive self-talk). Sending prayers...[emoji259]

Ohhh noo!!! Sorry to hear that. Are you sure its safe to show up after you've ate the junk food? If it doesn't happen how about next week?

I sure hope it gets easier. I've been overweight my whole life, so I have zero experience with what "normal" eating looks like.

Congratulations! My BMI fluctuates 36.5-37.5. I began my pre op diet yesterday, surgery 5/3/18. I very relieved to say that my diet is not Liquid Protein only. I have to do liquid Protein for Breakfast but can have lean meat or egg whites and as many vegetables as I want for both lunch and dinner. They're even allowing me 2 fruits a day, I was surprised about that. Today is my second day and, for me, I've been hungry until lunch.

I saw the surgeon today for final pre op meeting. I told him my concerns about my head/neck being back too far throughout the surgery. The first time I told him about this he just said "speak to the anesthesiologist" about it. Today, I told him I can't go through with the surgery if that's how I have to be throughout so I FINALLY got an answer to my question!!! I said "I know you're not the anesthesiologist, but you must have seen how people's heads/necks are positioned during the surgery. He told me that they only have to pull my head and neck back when the put the intubation tube down my throat (only a few minutes) and after that my head is straight throughout the rest of the surgery. YAY!!!!! I can't possibly tell you how relieved I am. Now I can relax and focus on pre op diet and getting what I need for the surgery. 5/3/18. Two weeks from tomorrow!

My surgery is May 3rd but I wasn’t put on a liquid diet before surgery 🤷🏽‍♀️ . He told me it’s based on my BMI , but I’m wondering if I should still do it even if it’s just for a few days before.

Thanks. I hear ya, I know I will probably have quite a bit of loose skin in that area, but I know that Spanx will be my bff
