    Time to be honest!!!

Day 8 for me. My cheats so far: on days 4 and 6 I had a small piece of cheese (less than one ounce). Yesterday and Friday (day 5) I had a slim Jim. Initially my plan was to just suck on but not eat the slim Jim...unsurprisingly that’s not how it worked out. I did count the calories and still stayed under the 1000 calorie limit on the days I had those cheats!
  2. The thing helping me keep going is thinking about how if I can do this now, before the surgery, before any anatomy changes, then doing it afterward will be a breeze. I’ve been doing things like blending my protein shakes with ice and I want to get some of the sugar free torani type syrups to add some flavor variety to my shakes as well. Would you be allowed to do that? Are you allowed to have a rotation of protein shake brands or are you restricted to one type? I know all of us have slightly different pre-op guidelines, but I’m on day 8 and I know both of us can get through it! You’re going to be great!!
  3. So my clinic has me on a 1000 cal per day, fairly restrictive liquid diet for two weeks before my surgery. I’m currently on day three and I’m doing okay but feeling nervous about my ability to do this for two full weeks. One thing I’ve found that I really enjoy is cottage cheese with pineapple (Kemp’s fruit on the bottom). It’s technically slightly above the sugar per serving I’m supposed to have (10g instead of 7g), and it’s expensive to buy because it’s just single serve. I also feel like I have TONS of sweet options (sugar free popsicles, pudding, etc) but I’m looking for more savory options. Though I’m interested in hearing what you do for sweet or savory with both cottage cheese and plain yogurt! What kind of seasonings, liquids, etc do you add to your cottage cheese to make it more interesting/satisfying? Thanks!!
  4. Thank you for all the fantastic ideas! I can't wait to try them all out!!

    July Gastric Bypass?

I’m on day 7 of my pre-op full liquid diet, and the weight I’m losing is slowing down...I’m curious how much others lost in their pre-op diet? I’m following instructions to a T and I don’t want my surgeon to see how little I’ve lost and think I was cheating!
  6. So I’m on day four of my pre-op restrictive liquid diet, and I’m doing okay but very low energy. Today was my last day of teaching summer school and now I’m off work/working at home until surgery on 7/30. I’m torn between wanting to keep my average steps around 6,000-7,000 per day and feeling like I should let myself relax a bit because of how low energy (and grumpy tbh) I’m feeling with this pre-op diet. Being home means that I’ll have to actually make an effort to get steps rather than just having it built into my day. What are your thoughts? What did you do in terms of activity during the pre-op diet?
  7. Hello! My surgery is scheduled for July 30 (eeeek! yay!!), and I'm starting my pre-surgery liquid diet/"liver reducing" diet on Monday! As many of you know, it's a pretty limited list of what I can eat and how many calories I can eat. I go back and forth between feeling like I can do anything for two weeks and feeling daunted and nervous about actually sticking to it. I'm trying to do my grocery planning/shopping this weekend so I can really hit the ground running on Monday, so I wanted to check in with those more experienced than I to see if there were any tips/suggestions/etc. for how best to prepare and stay motivated throughout the two weeks! Just curious if there was a product that was a "life saver" or essential for you in the pre-surgery period, or a habit or tool you used that made a big difference for you, or something you wish you'd done/known going into the pre-surgery diet and going into surgery in general! Thank you in advance!

My surgery is 7/30 too! Hi surgery twin! I’ve also been thinking about what I want to pack, thanks for posting!

    First step in the process

I was totally overwhelmed after my first appointment with the list of people I needed to see and things I needed to get done. Since you have six months of classes, it seems like you have time to take it one at a time. Choose two of the appointments you need to do and schedule those, and then just chop away at them. Use my chart if your clinic/GP have them to communicate with clinic and primary docs to get referrals for things. You can do this!!

    July Gastric Bypass?

I’m on day 4 of my pre-op diet, I have a ton of cravings but other than that I feel like it’s pretty good so far. The weight loss has helped me stay motivated (down 7lbs as of this morning...) and I’m hoping that keeps me through the next 10 days! I had a big bowl of beef broth for dinner with some good seasonings in it, but since that was so low calorie now I’m starting to move toward bed and I’m only at 700 calories (even after my sugar free yogurts and a sugar free fat free pudding). I’m supposed to be having 1000 a day but I’m guessing being under one night is okay?

    July Gastric Bypass?

@laura7 have you ever tried cross stitch? There are a lot of easy patterns and starter kits out there if you wanted to try. I found it to be mentally stimulating and keeps my hands busy= no snacking! I do that or jigsaw puzzles plus a podcast or audiobook!

I’m late to this post but I’m 7/30 in Minnesota!! How are all of you doing right before or right after surgery?!?!

    Hospital bag

Thank you for posting this topic! My surgery isn't for a couple more weeks but I have been thinking about what I want to bring with me. My surgery is scheduled for 7am Monday, and the surgeon said most likely I would be discharged around noon the next day, which is a much quicker turnaround time than I was expecting. Is this what all of you did/were told as well? Either way I'm sure I'll DRASTICALLY overpack, but I'd rather have more things and not use stuff than be wishing I had something I didn't put in the bag!

  15. Hello all! I'm brand new to this forum and I'm hoping to get some insights from you all on timing. My first appointment is on Friday (2/2) and I am so excited. I went through this process once before and had my first appointment with surgeon/dietician/nurse and then later was told my insurance wouldn't cover it. I've changed jobs and reached out to my insurance (health partners) ahead of time and made sure it's covered and figured out which doctors are in-network. I am a teacher which means that summer is the only viable time to do the surgery. I'm wondering whether I should be pinning my hopes on being able to snag a surgery date in mid- to late July (hubby and I have a trip booked returning 7/9) if my first appointment is on Friday. I know it varies by insurance and it'll probably depend on me being able to complete pre-surgery weight loss, but I'm wondering if others who are farther along in the process could give me a sense of the timing from first appointment to surgery... Thank you in advance!
